nfreeman Posted April 1, 2014 Report Posted April 1, 2014 And since it is all about upping everyone's value, I would hope they'd eventually start at the bottom of the list when they do move someone. Oakland still looks like the prime candidate (I'm shocked every time I hear that they have the lowest value in the league). We're definitely a prime candidate by that metric, but hopefully they'll find a taker at the very bottom of the list before they move up a couple slots to us. This is an important factor IMHO. Bottom line is that no one is going to pay $800MM for an NFL team if he is required by the NFL to keep the team in Buffalo. Those economics don't come close to working. Frankly I doubt anyone would pay $500MM with that restriction. The other NFL owners aren't going to want to see a franchise sold for less than half of its market value just to keep us happy because it will drive down the value of their franchises. As far as Goodell's influence playing a role, I think that is over-hyped. Sure he's from Buffalo, but you don't get to the head of the NFL by handing out favors to your hometown. He is going to do what is financially best for the NFL and its owners. If moving the Bills lines their pockets better than any other move, he won't get in the way of that. Agree 100%.
dEnnis the Menace Posted April 1, 2014 Report Posted April 1, 2014 Attendance really doesn't matter at this point. That's not the prime source of revenue generation. As K9 was suggesting, these teams are pulling the majority of their money from the corporate backers in their region. That is something that is always going to hurt Buffalo as a market. The teams you mentioned, as well as Buffalo are going to be the prime targets until someone actually moves to LA. According to the Forbes rankings, those are the bottom four teams (#32. Oakland, #31. Jax, #30. Buffalo, #29 St. Louis). As far as Goodell's influence playing a role, I think that is over-hyped. Sure he's from Buffalo, but you don't get to the head of the NFL by handing out favors to your hometown. He is going to do what is financially best for the NFL and its owners. SwampD Posted April 1, 2014 Report Posted April 1, 2014 I don't want to believe it, but it would be wrong and naive of me to ignore that. He was from Jamestown and it's a pretty good mix of Bills/Steelers fans down there. I've always been a little suspect of his "connection" to the Bills.
Hoss Posted April 1, 2014 Report Posted April 1, 2014 St. Louis and Oakland are both "free agents" after this season. I'd be willing to bet at least one of them will be playing in LA in 2015. Obviously in a temporary stadium while the real one is built. Everybody was saying that Sacramento moving to Seattle was the smart move for the NBA, but instead they blocked it and forced the Maloofs to sell to a buyer with less money to preserve the NBA in Sacramento. Obviously the NFL and NBA are completely different but don't rule out the NFL acting similarly.
That Aud Smell Posted April 1, 2014 Report Posted April 1, 2014 (edited) I posted about the plaintiffs' shareholder lawyer looking to buy the Islanders, and thanked my lucky stars for the somewhat eccentric Terry Pegula. Now I read that a group's courting the Donald to be part of a group that buys the Bills. https://twitter.com/...978364237815808 :death: I wonder if the NFL would ever let a 'free radical' such as the Donald be part of the fraternity, Someone just suggested the Trump trolling was an April Fools joke. :bag: Deftly played. They have threatened to move to LA as well.
Hoss Posted April 1, 2014 Report Posted April 1, 2014 Throw San Diego into the mix as well. SD has been trying to get a new stadium forever. They have threatened to move to LA as well. Yeap. All three teams will/can be out of their lease after this season.
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted April 1, 2014 Report Posted April 1, 2014 Someone just suggested the Trump trolling was an April Fools joke. :bag: Deftly played. In all honesty, with all the Jim Kelly rumors over the years, I could actually see Trump as one of the money guys behind a group. Cuomo has opened up casino gaming in NY and knows how much the Bills mean to the community. Maybe cut the Donald in on some of the NY gaming market, in return he puts up a hunk to keep the Bills here. I'm not sure what his worth is and he probably can't be the lead, but you find $100 million here and $100 million there, then get one guy in at $400....and it can happen.

Which is why the joke -- if it's a joke -- was so well done. It sounded entirely plausible to me. LGR4GM Posted April 1, 2014 Report Posted April 1, 2014 Buffalo may be the only place I have ever lived where there is such a sense of US/OUR/WNY identity. Its almost a point of pride.

LGR4GM Posted April 1, 2014 Report Posted April 1, 2014 Stay out of Texas. Don't worry I definitely will.

26CornerBlitz Posted April 4, 2014 Report Posted April 4, 2014 (edited) Bills give up a 6th round pick. @ProFootballTalk PFT confirms that Mike Williams has been traded from Bucs to Bills, pending physical. @JamesWalkerNFL first reported. Edited April 4, 2014 by 26CornerBlitz
That Aud Smell Posted April 4, 2014 Report Posted April 4, 2014 An interesting development. His salary and cap hit this year are very friendly. Next year, not so much. This is the Buffalo kid who quit at Syracuse rather than be suspended again. Marrone was his coach there. They must know who and what they're getting. I wonder what this means for their draft plans, as well as their plans regarding Stevie.

That Aud Smell Posted April 4, 2014 Report Posted April 4, 2014 Pretty sure Stevie is safe for this year. I'm thinking the Bills take Ebron or an OT at #9. people keep mocking an OT to them in round 1. nothing i've seen from this management has given me any indication that they value the OL like that. they took their LT in round 2. plus, i keep hearing that this draft is supremely deep -- like a guy taken at #40 will arguably be on par with the guy who'll be taken at #110. so why not wait on the OL and take a playmaker? maybe that playmaker is a TE.
dEnnis the Menace Posted April 4, 2014 Report Posted April 4, 2014 (edited) Pretty sure Stevie is safe for this year. I'm thinking the Bills take Ebron or an OT at #9. that's my guess as well, or DE/LB/DB. Also, I'd rather TJ Graham be gone rather than Stevie. It is official though...the Bills are taking a Monopoly on the last name Williams...Mike will make for 7 Williams' on the roster per the Bills website Edited April 4, 2014 by dEnnis the Menace
Hoss Posted April 4, 2014 Report Posted April 4, 2014 I posted a mock that had us getting Mike Evans right before this trade happened. Now, I think it's going to be a tackle unless Mack falls. If they can get one of Matthews/Lewan/Robinson in round one and then a good defensive end in round two then they did a very good job.
dEnnis the Menace Posted April 4, 2014 Report Posted April 4, 2014 I still want Evans. the ball sticks like glue to his hands...I wouldn't be opposed to getting Evans and cutting TJ loose... I just think they want to draft on the defensive side of the ball rather than the offense, hence the move, but who knows at this point.
