deluca67 Posted April 12, 2014 Report Posted April 12, 2014 The article is talking about where they will play after the lease runs. Thanks.
dEnnis the Menace Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 5 ex-Jills cheerleaders filing a lawsuit against the Bills. Third team to have lawsuit filed against them (Raiders, Bengals, Bills). All this per an ESPN newsflash on my phone.

All this per an ESPN newsflash on my phone. Just get rid of them. Cheerleaders are completely pointless in these winter cities. Then again, they're not all that useful in the other cities either.

All this per an ESPN newsflash on my phone. I've got a friend from high school who is a Jill right now and the consensus seems to be that these girls filing this lawsuit are just being babies. This part is key: The suit says that as a condition of employment, every Jill had to sign a contract classifying them as an “independent contractor,” not an employee. Ah, so you willingly signed a contract that means the Bills don't have to pay you sh*t? Good luck with that.

Because at the end of the day cheerleading is a hobby. Just like I play paintball or hockey or tinker with motorcycles, I'm doing those things and investing time in those things because I want to. Cheerleading starts as a hobby and finishes as one. It's not a day job and it's not going to pay any bills for you.
Hoss Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 (edited) The cheerleaders are put through hell physically and told to get expensive procedures done while making less than an Applebee's waitress. That's wrong. But the contract they signed makes this all pretty hard to fight. Edited April 23, 2014 by Tankalicious

Your first part can be read in two ways, though. There is so much demanded of them to participate in a hobby that takes a lot of time to entertain the fans of a billion dollar industry. They have full time jobs because it's supposed to be a hobby. Again, still their choice. The lawsuit shouldn't be about money, it should be about mistreatment. Agreed that cheerleaders should be no more, though.
qwksndmonster Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 Why don't NFL cheerleaders get payed decent money? Does the NFL not make enough? Ptshh
ubkev Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 Why don't NFL cheerleaders get payed decent money? Does the NFL not make enough? Ptshh Because no one watches the NFL for the cheerleaders, and the NFL knows it. The NFL doesn't employ them either. They are independent contractors who sign on to earn very little. Good lawsuit though. This organization did just fork over 3 mil to a guy who got too many text messages. Get rid of the cheerleaders, no one cares.
inkman Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 They had me up until "we were told how to wash our lady parts". Come on!!
Johnny DangerFace Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 How in the world do you all think it is a hobby when they are professionals who earn an income for their service, and people pay to see them (not at the games, but in their appearances where people PAY money to book them, money they don't see). My hobbies, usually cost ME moeny. I don't get paid. Cheerleaders get paid. People don't PAY to see me do my hobby. People PAY to book cheerleaders. someone explain how it is a hobby and the similarities? Because at the end of the day cheerleading is a hobby. Just like I play paintball or hockey or tinker with motorcycles, I'm doing those things and investing time in those things because I want to. Playing hockey or paintball earns you money? People pay to book you so they can watch you, and then you don't see that income? You are employed by a contractor to do your hobby? Sorry, I don't see it. They are being exploited and being paid below minimum wage.
TrueBlueGED Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 Numark: Cheerleading at the NFL level isn't a hobby, but they sure as hell aren't professionals either.

That's what cheerleaders are for. Why do you think no one takes them seriously?

Had a girlfriend once with a "cheerleaders ARE athletes!" T-shirt. We didn't last. (Yes, I realize that high school and college cheerleading involves athleticism, and plenty of it. Not the point.) LastPommerFan Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 They're not being exploited. Why do you think no one takes them seriously? This is what I hear when I hear this argument.
Johnny DangerFace Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 Numark: Cheerleading at the NFL level isn't a hobby, but they sure as hell aren't professionals either. In my opinion once you start getting paid income for what many be do as a hobby, then you are professional if that makes sense. And dark, "look pretty while you make others money." Really. You don't see how people pay thousands of dollars to see you, you are required to go, and you don't see that income, isn't exploitation?
TrueBlueGED Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 In my opinion once you start getting paid income for what many be do as a hobby, then you are professional if that makes sense. Well your opinion is wrong. And it sucks :nana:

Models, pornstars, a good amount of actors....same thing applies to all of them but they get paid, substantially. The only difference is is those I listed are the main attraction whereas cheerleaders are a side show. Doesn't mean they shouldn't be paid, just not millions. Edited April 23, 2014 by WildCard

darksabre Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 No one gives a sh*t about cheerleaders. That's the point I'm trying to make here. Pay to play. It's a hobby.
Hoss Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 It wasn't that they were told to wash their lady parts, it's that they were told HOW to. They were told many very specific things. They were being told to change their lives for ###### money.
cdexchange Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 (edited) personally, I couldn't care less whether the cheerleaders are here or not. Just wanted to say thank you for using this phrase correctly, as opposed to the other 99.9% of the population that inadvertently states the exact opposite of what they really meant to say. That is all. Edited April 23, 2014 by cdexchange
qwksndmonster Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 Because no one watches the NFL for the cheerleaders, and the NFL knows it. The NFL doesn't employ them either. They are independent contractors who sign on to earn very little. The NFL does make billions and billions of dollars though. How hard would it be to pay each cheerleader $20,000 for 16 weeks?
