Huckleberry Posted March 9, 2014 Report Posted March 9, 2014 Weren't the Sabres supposed to get a sixth round pick along with Neuvirth before the Caps threw this Europussy in? Europussy huh ? i can say i feel offended Quote
nfreeman Posted March 9, 2014 Report Posted March 9, 2014 This is really much ado about nothing. Klesla was playing out the string in the AHL on the last year of his contract. He didn't factor into Phoenix's plans so they dumped his contract on the Capitals, and the Capitals had no interest in him either so they dumped him on the Sabres as part of the price for Neuvirth. Kristian Posted March 9, 2014 Report Posted March 9, 2014 Don't mean to offend you. There's just a type of player who packs it in and goes home, can't take the NHL, which is the toughest league in the world. The man has been in North America since 1998, how does that qualify as "packing it in and going home, can't take the NHL"? He played in the league for parts of 14 seasons. People called Jagr a ###### for years - The man is still schooling people, and taking a pounding every other night at 42, in the toughest league in the world. I wouldn't mind that kind of ###### on my team. Omark is a different story. This is really much ado about nothing. Klesla was playing out the string in the AHL on the last year of his contract. He didn't factor into Phoenix's plans so they dumped his contract on the Capitals, and the Capitals had no interest in him either so they dumped him on the Sabres as part of the price for Neuvirth. ^This. LastPommerFan Posted March 9, 2014 Report Posted March 9, 2014 Will this free up a contract spot to make a trade at the draft? Quote
Sabres Fan in NS Posted March 9, 2014 Report Posted March 9, 2014 Will this free up a contract spot to make a trade at the draft? I think so. Maybe they can get Cody Mc back. He's one of my favourites too. Quote
wjag Posted March 9, 2014 Report Posted March 9, 2014 Reading some comments on the Yotes board. They liked him. Said wasn't the same since Ted Nolan's son, Jordan, lit him up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4F9ns4JXl4 Quote
26CornerBlitz Posted March 10, 2014 Report Posted March 10, 2014 (edited) Sabres suspend D Klesla for failing to report The Buffalo Sabres have suspended newly acquired defenseman Rostislav Klesla for failing to report to the team's AHL affiliate in Rochester. The Sabres announced the move Sunday, a day after Klesla told Canadian broadcaster TSN that he intended to not finish the NHL season, and instead planned to continue his career in Europe. @pham1717 The Sabres say nothing different or new will happen in the Washington trade and Klesla is officially suspended Edited March 10, 2014 by 26CornerBlitz Quote
thewookie1 Posted March 10, 2014 Report Posted March 10, 2014 I almost wonder if they took him for a contract dump, but also to be a vet D-man for the Amerks playoff push thus why they are so angry with him Quote
Hoss Posted March 10, 2014 Author Report Posted March 10, 2014 Was it not obvious that Klesla was a salary dump? That was 100% clear to me. Quote
PromoTheRobot Posted March 10, 2014 Report Posted March 10, 2014 Was it not obvious that Klesla was a salary dump? That was 100% clear to me. It may have been but I still think the Sabres are owed something. A low pick, another prospect, something. Quote
Two or less Posted March 10, 2014 Report Posted March 10, 2014 Martin Biron pretty much did the same thing. Got send down to the minors and he decided he wasn't all about that and didn't want ride the bus and retired. Nobody on here was hating on Biron. Quote
Andrew Amerk Posted March 10, 2014 Report Posted March 10, 2014 It may have been but I still think the Sabres are owed something. A low pick, another prospect, something. Nope. Sabres should've done their HW Quote
PromoTheRobot Posted March 10, 2014 Report Posted March 10, 2014 Nope. Sabres should've done their HW What homework? I trade for you. You show up. If you don't show up, the deal is reneged. Quote
Campy Posted March 10, 2014 Report Posted March 10, 2014 Does anyone know if the Sabres have any recourse with Washington? No. It is possible the NHL could step in and offer some sort of compensation, but the Caps are off the hook. Quote
... Posted March 10, 2014 Report Posted March 10, 2014 NHL to Sabres: "Be thankful you still have a team and shaddup". Quote
Campy Posted March 10, 2014 Report Posted March 10, 2014 I want compensation. Buffalo gave Washington a legitimate starting goalie. The price/trade was imbalanced so Washington threw in a player. That player did not report. There needs to be compensation to level the trade. It should be a low round draft pick. For those not paying attention, Halak won for Washington last night. So Washington has already benefited from the trade. What you're missing is that teams do not technically trade players. They trade the NHL rights and contracts of the players. If a player fails to report, show up. whatever, that has nothing to do with the team who traded his rights. The league could step in and offer some sort of compensation - most likely in the form of a late round draft pick - but all the Caps did was trade his rights, along with Neuvirth's, for Havak's and a draft pick. The deal is done and over... Quote
Andrew Amerk Posted March 10, 2014 Report Posted March 10, 2014 What homework? I trade for you. You show up. If you don't show up, the deal is reneged. That's not how it works, and you know it. Quote
PromoTheRobot Posted March 10, 2014 Report Posted March 10, 2014 (edited) That's not how it works, and you know it. Apparently I don't. Edited March 10, 2014 by PromoTheRobot Quote
inkman Posted March 10, 2014 Report Posted March 10, 2014 What homework? I trade for you. You show up. If you don't show up, the deal is reneged. Except the Sabres don't care about Klesla, at all. Quote
Andrew Amerk Posted March 10, 2014 Report Posted March 10, 2014 Apparently I don't. The Caps don't owe the Sabres anything. Once they got rid of him, it's not their fault nor their problem that he didn't want to play for the last place Sabres, nor their farm club. If they traded him knowing he was injured, different story. Except the Sabres don't care about Klesla, at all. And this. Quote
IKnowPhysics Posted March 10, 2014 Report Posted March 10, 2014 My impression on him has been that the Sabres had to take on him and his salary in order to get Neuvirth. So him bailing is actually a benefit for the Sabres. Agreed. Cash-strapped Yotes shipped Klesla to Caps because they didn't want to pay his salary to play in the minors. Caps had to dump some salary take Halak. Klesla was headed to Rochester. No loss to let him go. No consequence to the trade. There will probably be better, cheaper college free agents we can pick up to boost the Amerks. Quote
shrader Posted March 10, 2014 Report Posted March 10, 2014 Martin Biron pretty much did the same thing. Got send down to the minors and he decided he wasn't all about that and didn't want ride the bus and retired. Nobody on here was hating on Biron. If he's trying to get out and play in Europe right now, that's a major difference. Biron didn't walk off so that he could go play somewhere else. Quote
Rasmus_ Posted March 10, 2014 Report Posted March 10, 2014 For those that want compensation....why? Klesla isn't a player to worry about. A college UFA who has a brighter future can take his place in Buffalo/Rochester and really work for it. Sometimes you get players who get to a point where they feel disrespected. Klesla was waived what, 3-4 times this season. If he wants to go back to Europe. Adios. AS TMGM has said, we want players who want to play in Buffalo. Quote
nfreeman Posted March 10, 2014 Report Posted March 10, 2014 Again: Klesla wasn't an asset. He was a liability. He was only going to be here until the end of this season. He would've cost money and taken minutes away from someone else in Rochester. Quote
