Robviously Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 Making this move early also gives the team a chance to find a market for Halak  St. Louis Blues @StLouisBlues BREAKING: The Blues have acquired Miller & Ott from Buffalo for Halak, Stewart, Carrier & two picks. INFO >>> bit.ly/1fPaGKk Is there any reason not to try to trade Halak by Wednesday? Someone wants a back-up for the playoff run? Are we flipping Stewart to Ottawa or was that all speculation? Quote
spndnchz Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 https://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/players/3998/ Stewart Quote
Brawndo Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 Craig Custance @CraigCustance 37s Considering how hard it is to trade a goalie, that's a heck of a return for Tim Murray and the Sabres. Quote
Hoss Posted March 1, 2014 Author Report Posted March 1, 2014 If they can ship Chris Stewart to Ottawa for a prospect like Shane Prince then I'll be happier with this. Quote
JJFIVEOH Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 The outcome of this trade will depend on whether or not Ott really wants to come back. Period. Quote
WildCard Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 David Pagnotta @TheFourthPeriod Sabres get a 2015 1st round pick as part of the deal from Blues My first reaction: MEH. Completely meh. Unless we can quickly move Stewart and Halak elsewhere. Carrier is a decent prospect with injury problems. 2015 first is nice. Third is nice. Same here. Stewart isn't bad, and we knew Halak was coming, but the prospect is a bit disappointing, and you know that 2015 1st is going to land somewhere in the 20th+ range, if not 25th+ Quote
WildCard Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 The outcome of this trade will depend on whether or not Ott really wants to come back. Period. That, and what they do with Halak, Stewart, at this deadline and what they do with the 2015 1st rounder. Quote
Hoss Posted March 1, 2014 Author Report Posted March 1, 2014 For those that like Drew Stafford: You'll love Chris Stewart. He's a better but just as inconsistent Drew Stafford. Quote
Doohicksie Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 And Miller's thinking, "Sweet! I don't have to buy pads in another color!" Quote
Hoss Posted March 1, 2014 Author Report Posted March 1, 2014 Guys... It's real.... Ryan Miller is no longer a Buffalo Sabre. Quote
Trettioåtta Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 If they can ship Chris Stewart to Ottawa for a prospect like Shane Prince then I'll be happier with this. Why do you dislike Stewart so much? Prince is not a dead cert for the NHL by any means. He is a potential top 6 whereas Stewart is a physical top 6 already Quote

WildCard Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 Rick"s on 20th century time. That's the best profile picture I've ever seen on here, +1 Quote
sabre snipe Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 @BuffaloSabres #Sabres acquire a first-round pick in the 2015 @NHL Entry Draft and a conditional draft pick in the trade with @StLouisBlues. Maybe if miller signs we get a 1st or 2nd in 2016? Quote
X. Benedict Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 Why do you dislike Stewart so much? Prince is not a dead cert for the NHL by any means. He is a potential top 6 whereas Stewart is a physical top 6 already Stewart at his best is good, physical, and strong. I just don't think Murray is done, so don't give the man a number yet. Quote
Hoss Posted March 1, 2014 Author Report Posted March 1, 2014 William Carrier: http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/william-carrier/ http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=88662 Quote
Brawndo Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 Chances that Stewart is on the move prior to Wednesday? Quote
Hoss Posted March 1, 2014 Author Report Posted March 1, 2014 Why do you dislike Stewart so much? Prince is not a dead cert for the NHL by any means. He is a potential top 6 whereas Stewart is a physical top 6 already Stewart is as inconsistent as they come. Stewart has just 26 points in 58 games on a very good team. 30 in 79 games two years ago. He's not a top six player. Quote
IKnowPhysics Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 Couple months of Miller and Ott for Halak UFA goalie. 13th in SV% Leaders, 9th in GAA Leaders. Chris Stewart (drafted 18th overall in 2006 by COL 50-65 point player), RW, signed at $4.15M through 2014-15. William Carrier (drafted 57th overall in 2013 by STL), LW, currently playing for Cape Breton in the QMJHL. 42 points in 34 games, which is point equivalent to 30 points in the NHL. 1st round pick in the 2015 Connor McDavidathon. 3rd round pick in 2016. Now, we sign Ott as a UFA this year, and we're good to go. Love the return on this. Curious to see how Stewart will do. Curious to learn to see how Carrier develops. Excited for the 2015 draft, especially if NY defers and shits the bed again. Quote
sabres1970 Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 The fact that its 2015 makes it better than if it were this year. They're gearing up for McDavid, even if it means having to trade up to the first overall pick. Quote
darksabre Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 I like this trade. A lot. So far. I still want Ott back in the off season. The Blues just became a serious Cup contender. Quote
Trettioåtta Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 Lots of ex-sabres on that blues team and lots of team USA guys. They have to be the favourite for the cup now. Plus does Miller have the chance at the vezina now? Quote

He is a potential top 6 whereas Stewart is a physical top 6 already Unless I'm missing something from looking at Stewart's career numbers, no way is he a top 6. The fact that its 2015 makes it better than if it were this year. They're gearing up for McDavid, even if it means having to trade up to the first overall pick. NO ONE is trading that pick. Quote
