SwampD Posted February 20, 2014 Report Posted February 20, 2014 Could it be Nolan himself who wants the interim tag? Quote
Jsixspd Posted February 20, 2014 Report Posted February 20, 2014 ^^^ There's an interesting point. Maybe it's on Ted? Maybe he'd like to see if there's some hope for the team before committing himself completely? Quote
LGR4GM Posted February 20, 2014 Report Posted February 20, 2014 If anyone, anywhere, at anytime deserved a participation medal I am pretty sure Latvia does after these Olympic games. Quote
TrueBlueGED Posted February 20, 2014 Report Posted February 20, 2014 Hmmm, let's see... This guy, Ted Nolan, says here he's a hockey coach: Prior experience. Check. Ability to squeeze proverbial water from proverbial rock. Check. Demonstrable International and NHL coaching accomplishments. Check. Unarguable untapped potential. Check. Accepted and respected by fans. Check. Primary choice of Sabres' President of Hockey Operations. Check. Well, but does he have a few years to kill while we straighten this team around? This doesn't say anything about long term commitments. What makes you think he unarguably has untapped potential? Isn't it plausible he's great at getting effort and cohesiveness out of undertalented players, but that's all he's got? Quote

Jsixspd Posted February 21, 2014 Report Posted February 21, 2014 I wished, oh, how I wished... that the Sabres could be replaced, almost to a man, by the Latvian team. Quote

If your intent is for the Sabres to continue to pick in the top 5 for the next five years, then I agree. If not, then this assessment is Exhibit A on why you don't make decisions based on anecdotal evidence. Quote
Jsixspd Posted February 22, 2014 Report Posted February 22, 2014 Well at least they scored more goals against the Canadian team than Team USA. This is a good "What If?" How well would these Olympic teams stack up in the NHL? Would the losing quarterfinal teams be bottom 5 in the NHL? Would the 4 teams playing in today's semi-finals - would they be below average NHL teams? I honestly don't know, just thinking it's an interesting question.. Quote

Teams like Austria and Norway could barely survive in the AHL. A team like Latvia, with so many KHL players, probably could do all right in the AHL. The top four teams would be perennial Stanley Cup contenders. Quote
bunomatic Posted February 22, 2014 Report Posted February 22, 2014 (edited) The Canadian team has possibly the best lineup of defencemen the Olympics has seen IMO. I'm sure that would translate pretty good to the N.H.L. Edited February 22, 2014 by bunomatic Quote
