deluca67 Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 Over all this has been a satisfying 2014 trade deadline for the Sabres. They moved out the pieces they needed to and increased their collection of assets. Now it's just about finishing out the season and on to the draft. Quote
Eleven Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 Stamkos and Horton. Not saying it is common, but it certainly has happened before. Stamkos? Quote

TrueBlueGED Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 I was listening to the guys on WGR550 and they are jumping up and down about how great the Sabres and Tim Murray did at the trade deadline. These are the same guys who were ripping Darcy Regier apart for his actions. Regier's trades aren't looking so bad now. Look what he got for Vanek for example. Regier had flaws, but he did acquire a lot of future assets for which he should receive some credit. What trades did WGR rip Regier for recently? IIRC the reception for Gaustad, Pominville, Roy and Vanek were all very well received there. It's the other stuff Regier was ripped for, not the trades. Quote

Samson's Flow Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 Stamkos? Yeah, in that he re-signed with Tampa stating that he liked that he could stay in a non-traditional market. Quote
qwksndmonster Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 The panthers signed like 8 ufas 2 years ago, and then were good enough to OTL their way to the playoffs. Quote
dEnnis the Menace Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 Sure they do, when theres little interest in them elsewhere and the team grossly overpays them Even when the Sabres were decent players overlooked them for bigger market teams. What good FA is going to want to sign a contract with the Sabres this offseason if they have another offer from a better team? The only player I can think of that passed up better teams for a smaller market was Horton going to Columbus Name one besides Horton wasn't that due to ownership and management and not the"market"? Problem with Darcy is he wasn't a risk-taker and was never willing to make that big move. The other thing was he really never had an idea on how to build out the team. He got very lucky after the lockout and changing of league rules which benefited the team greatly. Quote
... Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 Again, it's probably best to avoid looking at all of these pieces individually. GMTM is trying to assemble a team that works together, not a list of assets that look good in a spreadsheet. Apparently, GMTM's analysis of what he had concluded that the thing should be stripped down even further than it had been. It hardly gets more bare than it is, so now he has to build it back up. Eleven Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 Yeah, in that he re-signed with Tampa stating that he liked that he could stay in a non-traditional market. Thanks. I didn't know that he said that when he re-signed. Quote

The bigger problem with Darcy Regier is that all of his trades and free agent signings amounted to jack sh!t. 16 years and couldn't get the job done. Quote

(no halak since he was flipped and what we got for him is what we got for miller technically) And if this list is accurate, they still have the same number of contracts. They shipped away 5 and brought in 5 (4 by trade and the claiming of Conacher). Edit: This list is missing Parker and Mitchell, but that still balances out. Quote
deluca67 Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 no feed yet for PC Maybe Johnathan Parker was also the guy in charge of web casts. Quote

LGR4GM Posted March 5, 2014 Author Report Posted March 5, 2014 (edited) We potentially have 3 first rounders this year and 3 second rounders. 6 picks in the first 60 is pretty nice. Or we have 3 firsts and 3 seconds next year. In one of the next 2 drafts we are going to be brimming with young talent. That is adding potentially 11 first or 2nd round picks over the next 2 years to our prospect pool. If they hit at 50% that means 5-6 nhl players. Add in Zadorov, Ristolainen, Armia? Possler, Baptiste, Compher, Zemgus, Grigs?, McCabe, plus the two guys we just traded for and idk about the rest of you but in 3 years we will have a young team with a ton of talent. I am going to stay hopeful. Edited March 5, 2014 by LGR4GM Quote

Huckleberry Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 Well i have to say i don't think there was more in it for us, if you see what the islanders got for Vanek. Btw good deal by montreal, they can pair him with briere and watch the magic happen. Quote

Same thing with his trade of Pominville. No doubt about it. If the Islanders give us there pick this year fine. It will be top 5 and if he defers to next year we might have a chance at another top 5 with Vanek gone. It's obivious snow has no clue to what he's doing! Edited March 5, 2014 by SabresBillsFan Quote
