Kristian Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 Just gonna state the obvious here - Rolston's team would've stopped skating the second they let that first one in, and wouldn't have started again until 15 minutes into the third, in which they'd put 8-10 shots on goal durin the last 5. Good comeback, good character win. Been a while since we saw that.
TheMatrix31 Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 That win was refreshing as hell. More of that, please.

That Aud Smell Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 celerity. !!! Is this real life? how's that dental work treating you? He will appear near to Buffalora the highly born and tall one entered into Milan. The Abbe of Foix with those of Saint-Meur will cause damage dressed up as serfs. whoa. My coccyx just moved. Ew. i wished i'd watched the game. moreover, i wish i'd used my tickets. nothing to be done -- it's nut-cutting time around my hizzouse.
Guest Sloth Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 Girgensons is even up to this point. The fact that the next closest of the players who have played a full season is Ennis at -6 says a lot about him. Girgensons is beginning to become the player many hoped he'd be. It seemed as if he had less pressure on him and it aloud him to play his game. I still have high hopes for Grigorenko, but I'm concerned people put too much on him too fast. I like what Pat LaFontaine said. Let the kids be kids. Let them develop down under and have a good time. Yes, Grigs can't go to Rochester, but allow the guy to develop properly. Many teams across the NHL thought it was a great idea to through the young guys in right away because of players like Kane, Toews, Crosby, et... Realistically, that's not possible for most players. I hope players like Armia are kept in the minors next season. Let them develop and gain ice time. And simply let them have fun. Many people are in college shortly after high school and do just that. We know what we did. We got to enjoy ourselves and develop properly. Why not apply the same principal to young NHL prospects?
kishoph Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 What could be next?… Ellis scoring? It really would be awesome if he scored. Well done. :worthy:
nfreeman Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 Pretty entertaining game. My notes: - Probably the biggest territorial advantage the Sabres have had in a game all year. - Winnipeg isn't quite as bad as the Sabres were under RR, but they're in the neighborhood. - I'm OK with giving Kane a try at RW, but I'm not giving up Risto, Zadorov, Pysyk, Zemgus or a #1 for him and I'm not giving him a big contract either. He looked awfully Stafford-like tonight. - Leino is shockingly ineffective. He has good battle on the walls, but he has zero playmaking ability once he wins the battle and usually just makes a bad pass or unaccountably loses control of the puck. - A lot of people here complained about Porter yesterday, but he made a very sweet play in traffic to set up Ellis for the goal.
K-9 Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 I could see you having an issue with this years draft. But next years? I know if we finish last we only have a 25% shot at McDavid. I still want to sign up for a 25% chance at a GENERATIONAL player. For those wondering, above is some McDavid highlights. Almost missed this and I'm glad I didn't. Thanks for posting these highlights. Something about the way this kid navigates and sees the ice reminds me of Bert. The announcer was dead on when he said McDavid makes it look easy because of all the little things he does right. Just like all the greats in any walk of life. It's easy because they work their nuts off. I'd do a Ditka trade if I thought it would help land this kid. But I'm not sure we or ANY team have enough to trade away for this kid. GO SABRES!!!
FolignosJock Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 Dont look now but this team is probably gonna turn it around enough to finish ninth in the east......
Doohicksie Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 Dont look now but this team is probably gonna turn it around enough to finish ninth in the east...... Looking competent against another terrible team is not "turning it around." But I do like what I see.
FolignosJock Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 Looking competent against another terrible team is not "turning it around." But I do like what I see. Winnipeg would currently be in 8th in the east...... We dominated them, we still have goal scoring problems but this team is turning it around.
26CornerBlitz Posted December 18, 2013 Author Report Posted December 18, 2013 Pretty entertaining game. My notes: - Winnipeg isn't quite as bad as the Sabres were under RR, but they're in the neighborhood. This must explain the 15 wins that the Jets have thus far this season.
Eleven Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 The Jets are not horrible, at least not by our standards. And Buffalo has had problems with that franchise, even when it was in Atlanta. I'm happy for the hard-fought win.
Derrico Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 Almost missed this and I'm glad I didn't. Thanks for posting these highlights. But I'm not sure we or ANY team have enough to trade away for this kid. GO SABRES!!! Yep, and the beauty of next years draft is although he looks like an absolute franchise changer, the #2 through 4 players in that draft appear to be franchise caliber players at this point. So please excuse my future rants this summer if we try shortening this rebuild by one year. Let's keep doing what we're doing the rest of this season and take one more year of bottoming out. The grass will be much greener in two years if that happens. Oh right, this is a GDT. Great game by the home team last night. I have no problems with dominating wins like last night. On the flip side, how do the Jets have nearly double the amount of points as us??
nfreeman Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 This must explain the 15 wins that the Jets have thus far this season. Well, they looked dead in the water last night, they've lost 10 out of 15 and they're 3rd-last in the WC. So maybe they're on the far end of the neighborhood, but they're still there. Sheesh.
spndnchz Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 After last night the Sabres have outshot or even shot the opposition in their last five games. There's something anyway.
FolignosJock Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 Well, they looked dead in the water last night, they've lost 10 out of 15 and they're 3rd-last in the WC. So maybe they're on the far end of the neighborhood, but they're still there. Sheesh. Again, they would be eighth in the East. We absolutely dominated them. That was an impressive win. Could have easily been 10-2

Derrico Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 After last night the Sabres have outshot or even shot the opposition in their last five games. There's something anyway. I think I heard on WGR on the way in that it's the first time in 3 years the Sabres have done that.
Iron Crotch Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 After last night the Sabres have outshot or even shot the opposition in their last five games. There's something anyway. If this isn't evidence that Nolan is a better NHL coach than Rolston, I don't know what is.
26CornerBlitz Posted December 18, 2013 Author Report Posted December 18, 2013 If this isn't evidence that Nolan is a better NHL coach than Rolston, I don't know what is. You might be better too.
JJFIVEOH Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 Looking competent against another terrible team is not "turning it around." But I do like what I see. They've looked competent for quite some time now. I'd go as far as saying they have been the better team overall over the last 3 weeks. Bad bounces, bad breaks and lack of finish has kept them from having a winning record in that span. They don't deserve the record they've had. The wins will start coming more frequently if they keep this up. It's been years since I've seen a Sabres team keep their heads up after losses. We know what we did. We got to enjoy ourselves and develop properly. Why not apply the same principal to young NHL prospects? Good post. I've been very leery about this trend of teams trying to force their early draft picks into action way too soon. I hope it doesn't have long term ramifications on the future stars in the league. This isn't the NFL where players are in the 'bigs' at 22 or 23. We need to be patient now and let our young talent develop. I understand why the kept Grigorenko up last year and I'm not going to hold it against them. Like you, I hope his career is salvageable.
MDFan Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 I believe my last post before the game was "How 'bout them Sabres!" It's nice to watch a game with a story line that, for once, isn't Sabres outplayed territorially, can't score, hang in there and lose. it's nice to watch a game with a story line that ends with the good guys winning. So much for my pre-game whining about no one left worth watching. That was entertaining hockey. The first period was our best period hockey all season. Coming back the way we did after the crushing Scheifele goals is exactly what this team needs to start believing again. Four freaking goals! One from each line! How long has that been? I am not entirely convinced Hodgson was really injured; it could have been a quiet Nolan lesson. Either way, he game back with some determination tonight. Combining him and Foligno was long overdue. Get those guys a fast power right winger who can play give and go hockey and we will have an excellent second line for a long time. Make Evander Kane be that guy. Hopefully Armia can be that guy. Not a power winger per se but is big enough, has speed, and can score. I am really hoping he develops this year in Rochester. That could be a great line. Agreed on Hodgson. He needed a wake up call.
