Sabres Fan in NS Posted December 14, 2013 Report Posted December 14, 2013 There is / was a Sabre game this afternoon? There is / was a Sabre game this afternoon? Nevermind ...
PromoTheRobot Posted December 14, 2013 Report Posted December 14, 2013 Really? Because it looked a lot like what we have been watching for years now. To you maybe. Funny that you were the loudest to complain when they would make a playoff push. Man I used to hate it when they would actually win games, didn't you? PTR
deluca67 Posted December 14, 2013 Report Posted December 14, 2013 To you maybe. Funny that you were the loudest to complain when they would make a playoff push. Man I used to hate it when they would actually win games, didn't you? PTR Do you want to return to the cycle of mediocrity? So they win 20 games this year, is it really that much worse than winning 39 games and missing the playoffs. I'll take less wins in a season if I feel it is building to something significantly better than just another season of settling for "just being in the mix" as they say. What choice does this franchise really have? Regier had left this franchise in such a state where they are frozen out of the free agent market and they lack the assets to significantly turn over the roster. What you are seeing this season is the cumulative result of all those seasons of just settling under Regier.
nobody Posted December 14, 2013 Report Posted December 14, 2013 I really like that the Flames use the Atlanta logo for there alternate captains.
Jsixspd Posted December 14, 2013 Report Posted December 14, 2013 I found the game enjoyable to watch except for the end of course. Ted has them playing much harderthan the Regier era. They lack the talent to score. And then there are anemic slugs like Leino who consume much and produce little.
qwksndmonster Posted December 15, 2013 Report Posted December 15, 2013 What kind? Because Capen at UB is regularly much louder. Sabres games are a popular place for UB students to catch up on their finals studying, Zemgus Girgensons is single handedly making this season watchable. If only Zadorov were here...
BuffaloBorn Posted December 15, 2013 Report Posted December 15, 2013 I only saw like 4 minutes of the third and ot. Didn't miss much. Kinda glad i didn't watch the whole 3

Eleven Posted December 15, 2013 Report Posted December 15, 2013 Chz, did your family get in? And if so, or if not, can you relate the story? Because that will have been the most exciting thing that happened in the building today.

But with our luck, I can see Pegula selling the team next season, with the new owner bringing back Regier and Larry Quinn.
Eleven Posted December 15, 2013 Report Posted December 15, 2013 I really like that the Flames use the Atlanta logo for there alternate captains. That is kind of neat.
bunomatic Posted December 15, 2013 Report Posted December 15, 2013 Thank Christ I never wasted my time watching that one. There's not much midway thru december I hate more than clamouring thru a packed mall looking for christmas gifts for friends and family but I chose that over the game today. Turns out it was the right choice.
PromoTheRobot Posted December 15, 2013 Report Posted December 15, 2013 So I'm confused. Are we supposed to win games or lose games? You seen to have issues with either outcome. Do you want to return to the cycle of mediocrity? So they win 20 games this year, is it really that much worse than winning 39 games and missing the playoffs. deluca67 Posted December 15, 2013 Report Posted December 15, 2013 So I'm confused. Are we supposed to win games or lose games? You seen to have issues with either outcome. I have "issues" with the idea that "losing" is something fans "want." Reasonable fans can accept a period of futility in exchange for a promise of success at the other end. I think most would rather that the franchise not be thrust into that position. It's the difference between "want" and "accept."
nfreeman Posted December 15, 2013 Report Posted December 15, 2013 Well, that was yet another game that exposed the Sabres' dearth of skill on offense. Good hustle, pretty good D, a number of good chances, and zero finish. I think Ennis might be the only real top 6 forward on this team. OTOH, Myers is becoming a star again. He was great today. If he can keep it up, that will be the best on-ice development of the year. Enroth looked solid but the GWG was kinda soft.
Doohicksie Posted December 15, 2013 Report Posted December 15, 2013 There is talk about lack of scoring talent but I'm not buying it. Maybe Ennis is the only top-6 player on the team right now, but come on- 3rd and 4th liners never score? They're a lot better offensively than their scoring shows. Give TN some time, I think it will come around.
Randall Flagg Posted December 15, 2013 Report Posted December 15, 2013 Enroth looked solid but the GWG was kinda soft. The one that was disallowed because of the too-many-men penalty on calgary went in the same way, or at least an equally-concerning way, and the second the GWG went in I flashed back to it and was surprised that he let the same thing happen twice.
TrueBlueGED Posted December 15, 2013 Report Posted December 15, 2013 However accurate such criticisms may be, I simply can't bring myself to criticize goaltending until the team can reliably score more than once per game.
... Posted December 15, 2013 Report Posted December 15, 2013 Four posts. This was just an unlucky game for a team that lacks scoring talent. They did not stink up the ice, although I thought they sat back a bit in the third. There are several interesting things to be encouraged by, despite the loss: Myers continues to gain confidence. Put him with a competent forward group now and look out. This team can indeed enter the zone on the PP and set up. The PK has become refreshingly aggressive. Nolan is a good coach.
JJFIVEOH Posted December 15, 2013 Report Posted December 15, 2013 Between all the posts, disallowed goals, hot goaltenders...... this team just can't catch a break. That's the difference between this team and the one that started the year. The one that started the year was just flat out bad, so bad they couldn't even get bad breaks because they couldn't even create opportunities. It's just a matter of time before percentages kick in and the breaks turn their way. There is no way in hell this team can keep on playing at a 1 GPG pace with the level of compete they've had. It's just a matter of time before they break out with some higher scoring games.

Agree on all counts. But why, oh why, can't they just bring in SOMEONE who can score just 20 goals a season??
wjag Posted December 15, 2013 Report Posted December 15, 2013 They are what we thought they were. They have zero offensive talent. It showed over and over yesterday. Wide open nets were missed because they simply can't finish. And that my friends is not something Nolan can change. Nolan can change schemes, he can change pressure, he can change entries, but you can either shoot or you can't. Most of this shooting incompetence has been done against second string goaltending too. If you can't beat a Calgary at home, it says a lot about your talent, coaching and team. The singular bright spot in this season has been the goaltending.
CallawaySabres Posted December 15, 2013 Report Posted December 15, 2013 My kids made the jumbotron and THAT was all i cared about. Thye have been trying for 3 years and as soon as they got on there, I was finally at peace. Pretty sad when I did not even care about the outcome of the game. They have seen a total of 2 goals the last 3 games I have taken them to so when that happens, all you have is the jumbotron.
