26CornerBlitz Posted December 5, 2013 Report Posted December 5, 2013 lol gotta love how Sabres PR is about 12 hours behind the rest of the world. Either way it will be good for Nikita and Mikhael to go to Russia and kick some @ss later on in the Sweden. It wasn't official until the team announced it. Grigo's FaceBook page doesn't count. @BuffaloSabres "I'm really excited" -Grigorenko on opportunity to play in world juniors. He looks forward to playing vs. high level of competition. #Sabres

26CornerBlitz Posted December 9, 2013 Report Posted December 9, 2013 Risto's in for the Finns Top NHL prospects dot Finland's WJC camp roster The Finnish National Junior Team on Monday announced the selection camp roster of players hoping to represent their country at the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship in Malmo, Sweden. Finland, which placed seventh at the 2013 WJC, is seeking its first medal since winning bronze in 2006. The camp features 27 players, including six who participated in last year's tournament -- goalie Janne Juvonen of Pelicans Lahti in Finland, defensemen Ville Pokka of Karpat Oulu (FIN), Rasmus Ristolainen of the Rochester Americans (AHL) and Juuso Vainio of HPK (FIN) and forwards Artturi Lehkonen of KalPa (FIN) and Teuvo Teravainen of Jokerit (FIN). There also are 10 players on the roster drafted by NHL teams, including Ristolainen, taken by the Buffalo Sabres with the eighth pick of the 2013 NHL Draft, and Teravainen selected the by Chicago Blackhawks with the 18th pick of the 2012 draft. Ristolainen had one goal in 19 games with the Sabres earlier this season, but Sabres interim coach Ted Nolan told reporters that Ristolainen would be available for Finland for the tournament. That's assuming the rookie defenseman is healthy -- he sustained an upper-body injury Nov. 29 while playing in the AHL. He has two goals and two assists in five AHL games.
26CornerBlitz Posted December 11, 2013 Report Posted December 11, 2013 Wild Assigns Dumba To Canadian National Team It’s been a long two years for Matt Dumba. For the rookie Wild defenseman, it’s been a tough go-round when the Canadian National Junior Team has chosen its team to participate in the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship. That’s because for the past two years, he’s been the final player cut when Team Canada has selected its final roster. Draisaitl leads returning group to German WJC camp Center Leon Draisaitl, considered an A-rated prospect on NHL Central Scouting's players to watch list for the 2014 NHL Draft, is one of four returning players invited to the German National Junior Team selection camp that will be evaluated for participation in the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship in Malmo, Sweden, later this month.
26CornerBlitz Posted December 13, 2013 Report Posted December 13, 2013 Prospector Files: World Junior players to watch Several top NHL Draft prospects have historically made their mark at the IIHF World Junior Championship each year and, in effect, boosted their draft stock. "When a 17- or 18-year-old is able to play in the World Juniors, it is a considered a positive factor which does carry weight in the player's overall evaluation even if he doesn't get a lot of ice time," NHL Central Scouting director Dan Marr told NHL.com. "If the player contributes while playing at this level, then it lends favorably toward his NHL projection. In the final rankings, it sometimes aids in determining the ranking order." The 2014 WJC in Malmo, Sweden, will again give NHL scouts an opportunity to see the top draft-eligible players against their peers at the 11-day tournament. Here are 11 prospects invited to selection camp sure to attract some attention and maybe even bolster their 2014 draft status. All players are A prospects on NHL Central Scouting's November players to watch list, with the exception of Swedish forward Anton Karlsson.
26CornerBlitz Posted December 17, 2013 Report Posted December 17, 2013 USA's Eichel views World Juniors as latest challenge MINNEAPOLIS -- As an eighth grader, hockey prodigy Jack Eichel was playing for and against 20-year-olds in his debut with the Boston Junior Bruins of the Empire Junior Hockey League. He served as captain of that team the following season, scoring 86 points in 36 games. "Anytime you get to be around older guys, you get their habits and the way they go about their business," Eichel told NHL.com. "Being able to play against older guys makes you a better player. I think that if you're not challenging yourself you're not going to get better." The challenges continued following his freshman year at Chelmsford High School in Massachusetts when the 16-year-old center joined the United States National Team Development Program's under-17 team in Ann Arbor, Mich. "That was tough because I kind of consider myself a homebody; mom has done so much for me [in North Chelmsford]," Eichel said. "Moving out to Ann Arbor was difficult but it's always been a goal of mine to play for the NTDP. When I got the opportunity to play there I knew it was an opportunity of a lifetime and I couldn't pass it up.

26CornerBlitz Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 JT Compher among the USA cuts that will not be going to Sweden to participate in the tournament. Compher is out due to a left foot injury. 2014 U.S. WJC Camp: USA vs. Minnesota State Recap - J.T. Compher did not play tonight and was walking around in a boot on his foot. He blocked a shot in practice Monday night during PK drills. Lucia said injury concerns may alter the decision process tomorrow and is likely talking about Compher. No one from USAH would confirm the severity of the injury, but a walking boot obviously isn’t a good sign. Compher looked to be in really good position to make the team, too.

Byebye Posted December 19, 2013 Report Posted December 19, 2013 J. T. Compher was cut from team USA wjc roster on Wednesday due to a broken foot sustained in Mondays practice. Coach Don Lucia had this to say "The disappointment is in Compher getting hurt; he could have played a lot of different roles on this team," Lucia said. "The good thing is that he's a 1995 [birth year] so he'll have another opportunity next year. It would have been a good bet that he probably would have made this team, but now it gives someone else an opportunity"
