Hoss Posted November 29, 2013 Author Report Posted November 29, 2013 Isn't that pretty much what Inkman said? And so does D'Agostini or any number of guys. There's nothing special about Corey Tropp. If the Sabres hadn't spent a late third-round pick on him years ago, you probably never would have heard of him. Had nothing to do with his draft spot. I don't expect anything out of picks outside of the first two rounds. Anything out of other picks is just a bonus. Tropp showed a lot of grit and willingness to get dirty. He's the type of player that everybody cries over around here. But since the new regime made the move then it's brilliant. That's really all it is. Darcy makes this move and everybody is pissed.
darksabre Posted November 29, 2013 Report Posted November 29, 2013 Sounds a whole lot like Patrick Kaleta. There are a lot of Patrick Kaleta types out there. Not really a convincing argument for Tropp.
Lanny Posted November 29, 2013 Report Posted November 29, 2013 There are a lot of Patrick Kaleta types out there. Not really a convincing argument for Tropp. And Kaleta's not an NHL player right now either.
Hoss Posted November 29, 2013 Author Report Posted November 29, 2013 There are a lot of Patrick Kaleta types out there. Not really a convincing argument for Tropp. I wasn't saying that Kaleta and Tropp are similar. I was saying that your description of Tropp was a lot like the Kaleta that everybody defends and thinks is a legitimate NHL player. Tropp is similar to Kaleta in the sense that he plays hard and is a bottom six player at best, but there are differences.

Hoss Posted November 29, 2013 Author Report Posted November 29, 2013 So you agree that both are essentially filler? dif·fer·ence ˈdif(ə)rəns/ noun plural noun: differences a point or way in which people or things are not the same. RIGHT NOW, Tropp is a filler. In the future, he may not have been.
26CornerBlitz Posted November 29, 2013 Report Posted November 29, 2013 Corey Tropp talks to the media before the Blue Jackets take on the Oilers at NWA: Pregame Interview: Corey Tropp (11/29/13)
inkman Posted November 29, 2013 Report Posted November 29, 2013 RIGHT NOW, Tropp is a filler. In the future, he may not have been. At 24, he's pretty close to a finished product. I didn't want to see him go. He's one of my favorite players.

Weave Posted November 29, 2013 Report Posted November 29, 2013 At 24, he's pretty close to a finished product. Yep. WYSIWYG This thread reminds me of the threads that followed Tim Kennedy moving on and Matt Ellis getting sent down. Lots of gnashing of teeth over a non-difference maker that will likely never be a difference maker. The Corey Tropp's of the league are a dime a dozen. Pick one off the pile that fits the type of game you are trying to instill. Obviously Nolan was looking for a different set of dime a dozen attributes than what Tropp had. Tropp is potential 3rd line talent that has hit an age where he's pretty much used up all his potential. D'agostini is a known quantity and a vet. You rolls your dice and takes your chance. *yawn*

nfreeman Posted November 29, 2013 Report Posted November 29, 2013 And the DB quotient climbs steadily as the disagreement persists...

But who needs facts? We can just side with the general opinion and support the new regime because it's not Darcy. Why not?
26CornerBlitz Posted November 30, 2013 Report Posted November 30, 2013 @BuffNewsVogl Corey Tropp has an assist so far in his Columbus Blue Jackets debut.
bunomatic Posted November 30, 2013 Report Posted November 30, 2013 No it wasn't Darcy. It was pat and ted and maybe it will turn out to be a mistake but it never cost us anything. It isn't one of Darcys bad contracts. They are trying to improve the team. I trust that they'll do their best and they will make the odd mistake. So be it. We'll never improve if we don't take calculated risks.
Robviously Posted November 30, 2013 Report Posted November 30, 2013 Oh my God..... Bradley Gelber @BradleyGelber7m @BuffNewsVogl He has a lot more than that: pic.twitter.com/DDLR4illBE

We have a big need for gritty players. But who needs facts? We can just side with the general opinion and support the new regime because it's not Darcy. Why not? No, dammit, that's the problem. That is NOT what the team needs. The team has plenty of those. There are three lines of guys who are ten-cent talent and million-dollar effort. FFS, I'm so sick of this freaking hockey philosophy. I TOLD YOU SO!!!! :flirt: :w00t: You are special.
26CornerBlitz Posted November 30, 2013 Report Posted November 30, 2013 I TOLD YOU SO!!!! :flirt: :w00t: He's no Luke Adam!

You haven't been here long enough to know that I've never been big on Tropp. it's not a new regime thing so you can stuff that. And no, we don't need more bottom 6 guys. We've already got Ott., Scott, Foligno, Flynn, Mccormick, Girgensens, and Adam, Oh, and Kaleta in purgatory. How many ###### bottom 6 players do we really need?
SwampD Posted November 30, 2013 Report Posted November 30, 2013 Same guy. It's a great world that that guy exists.

How many ###### bottom 6 players do we really need? It's more about long-term bottom six guys... Not jokes like John Scott. But yea, I don't really need anymore stuffing buddy. We disagree. No reason for us to keep throwing a bunch of ###### at the wall hoping one or the other will agree with it. It's just not going to happen, obviously. There are two clear sides here, and that's not going to change. But I'm right because Tropp is on a PPG pace in Columbus right now.
