qwksndmonster Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 JJ, when the team is losing there will always be criticism. You'll go blue in the face before you stop anyone from criticizing the players. Just take it with a grain of salt and post what you liked from the games. Not to mention bitching about Stafford is like half the reason I'm on here.
Weave Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 Hodgson is the best offensive player on the team so many of our fans are compelled to hate him. Pretty sure this is called the Vanek Rule. I think it was callled the Miro Satan rule before that. And the Turgeon rule before that. While this season has reason for criticism, I don't see why we're still harping on it. Over the last three weeks I've seen steady improvement from many aspects of their game. There have been 3-4 very winnable games over the last month whereas there were no bright spots (besides goaltending) through the first three weeks. McNabb looks much improved, Myers is nowhere near what he was to start the year, Leino looked great today, Stafford has put together a string of three good games for the first time in probably two years, Girgensons...... nothing needs to be said about him. I know I haven't covered everything. All in all they look pretty damn good lately considering everything that's transpired since the start of the season. There is still criticism of Hodgson? Really? When we become a division contender, maybe we can start to nitpick. But at this point to criticize a young kid who was thrown into a #1 center spot on the worst team in the league, is just asinine. Time to accept the fact that we're not going to the playoffs this year and enjoy watching the new kids make the transition. Still complaining about posters, huh?

LaLaLaFontaine Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 I think it was callled the Miro Satan rule before that. And the Turgeon rule before that. Hmm Pats 148 points 92/93 were enough or should this "soft pretty weather player" led us in the playoffs by checking hard and grinding in the boards and simply destroy all opponents by himself as real leaders do today? He did not win the cup for us so he was not worth anything right? Irony out This post is not written to weave, but the fact that we for years trash our best players is ridiculous. There are not so many constantly high scoring two way allstar players out there who hit hard. To be honest it is really hard to come back every day to this forum and read so many people which are crying" rabaaahhh.... they have no talent..... trade player xy now for a bag of pucks....Hodgson is overpaid, because he has zero defensive responsibility.....Trade Myers he sucks.....Trade Miller because Enroth is as good as this mediocre Miller" I could go on much longer but you know what i mean. Yes the team sucks, but i hope the current changes show us a promising future
SwampD Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 I read this post and thought what if you took two teams that fans were familiar with and changed the uniforms. Not the numbers and names on the back, just have them wear the other teams uniforms. Fans Refs go into games almost pre-programmed. I wounder what type of effect on the fans refs it would have. There is no way the trip on Leino to set up the first goal isn't called,… there is no way Girgensons doesn't get a penalty shot, or at least a PP,… there is no way Myers get's called for crosschecking,… and there is no way they don't get awarded a 5 on 3 at the end of the game,… …if the guys in blue and gold were wearing red and white. That's just a fact. Most favored team status in full effect this weekend. How about this one? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dziiQp64j8 When Jack Edwards can't believe it, it's a penalty.
inkman Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 Hodgson is the best offensive player on the team so many of our fans are compelled to hate him. Pretty sure this is called the Vanek Rule. I think it's more about mannerisms on the ice than just being "their best offensive player". Vanek grimaced and plodded his way back to the bench every shift and fans in turn called him lazy. Hodgson doesn't run guys through walls and struggled defensively so obviously he's not putting forth maximum effort. Similar things were said about Briere, Afinogeov, Satan, Connolly, etc.
LGR4GM Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 The team looked like crap, both in their play and in those barf jerseys.
Eleven Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 Picking on Hodgson is silly. He's exactly the player that he's supposed to be. If they wanted another grinder, they would have kept Kassian. For once, DR realized that the team needs to score goals, too.
Wyldnwoody44 Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 Wow that chara video is pretty mind blowing.... I mean there was 0 subtlety to that. I didn't like the officiating either, where I sat I had a good view of two or three penalties that weren't called, I also saw Ennis get away with a high stick as well tho. Unfortunately the refs didn't lose the game for us, our lack of scoring and inability to compete for a full freaking game did.... We stayed off great for the first 5-10 minutes and then before u knew it we were out shot by a dozen or so.... And then in the third it didn't even look like we cared to the the game up, especially with the PP with 5 to go in the game.
Iron Crotch Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 Where is there anything negative written about CoHo in this thread? The criticism of his game last year was that he was on the ice for more goals against than any other forward in the entire league... offensive numbers are great, but you have to be responsible defensively too. This year he is playing a lot better in his own zone. Wow that chara video is pretty mind blowing.... I mean there was 0 subtlety to that. The one that I saw both teams doing yesterday was the subtle drop pass in the offensive zone where the passer then skates into the defenseman creating a pick and space for the shooter. It doesn't get called enough. The Wings did that several times and the Sabres at least once.
Eleven Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 People are discussing criticisms of Hodgson above.
darksabre Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 I'll repeat what I said up thread, but last night's game was a snoozer. I think at one point in the third I finally saw a Sabres forward start moving his feet. Detroit was taking it pretty easy after the game the night before, and Buffalo apparently didn't feel the need to push the tempo at all. I don't understand how NHL hockey players can be so slow.

Enough of this composite stick BS. Require wooden sticks and this kind of thing would be eliminated. So weary of seeing the blades fly off stick shafts. It's embarrassing that it's tolerated.

LTS Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 So... here's my thoughts. As much as I hated the new uniforms when they were released they did say they would look better when the WHOLE uniform was seen. Guess what.. I kind of like them. I thought they looked good on TV. I'm firmly in the "They ain't so bad." camp now. I'll see them live on Wednesday. The Sabres are improving. They still lack talent and we know that but they are improving. Stafford has looked light years better in his game. He's streaky at scoring but I'm hoping he starts potting a few and it clicks. Leino looked better tonight but didn't get chewed out the game before? He's like Stafford to a certain degree but he's got further to go. Moulson looks like he's just waiting to be traded. My guess is that he's already told them he's not going to sign and just going through the motions until he joins his third team this year for their playoff run. Ehrhoff? I'm thinking he wants to be traded as well. It's not unthinkable. He's a $4MM cap hit and his actual pay day has already been absorbed. The trend is good right now but they've a long way to go. I'll take progress at any level to get me through the season.
millbank Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 no doubt tough times for Sabre followers and likely to get not much better for some time. Believe many wanted a change in direction, culture ect. Think this change on hold perhaps the decks need be clean before new Gm begins his work, and there be no guarantee's Ted Nolan will be choice of New GM.

I'll take progress at any level to get me through the season. I agree with most of this. The team has been playing alot better but when you don't have much talent you can't turn $hit into Gold. Lets face it this team isn't good. I think Ehrhoff has been one of there better defensive players. Too bad he can't hit the net with his shot. Stafford and Leino seem to be playing alot better now that Nolan is here. How long they can keep it up is another question. I would still try to unload Leino at the deadline or buy him out at the end of the year. I agree with the Moulson statement as he looks like a player that isn't going to sign with them and is just waiting to be traded. I'm thinking NY Rangers for Moulson. I said it before and I will say it again I think this team will be 3-5 years before we see the playoffs again. I'm leaning more on year 5. You figure if we pick in the top 3 this year and whoever else they draft won't be ready for a least a couple of years. Yes even if they land a top 3 pick he might be ready but he's not going to make a huge impact. Then you go to 2015 draft and just hope you get McDavid.
Doohicksie Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 It'll never happen. Composite sticks are way too nice. I know that. But that's what this forum has devolved into: Asking for stuff that will never happen.

TSN.ca has an article written by a former ref discussing it, he says they have to decide if the stick broke due to the chop or a defect in the stick, but even he says that he has called penalty shots for way less then that. best part is reading the comments below the article and the Bruins fans who are saying "get over it", or 'There were plenty of calls against us that weren't called", or best of all, that they don't get breaks and marchand is constantly being attacked and never getting calls.

It had to do with the lack of notice about the way the kids have played. And here you are hitching about me. It doesn't get much more ironic than that.

When many different posters have problems with you, maybe it's not the many different posters that are at fault.

Funny how several posters criticized the criticism of Hodgson yet you choose to attack me. The only people that have a problem with me are the ones that have consistently been the most argumentative posters to begin with. Funny how this place is nothing but criticism, but for some reason you take offense to mine. Would you like me to leave?
