wonderbread Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Seconded. Except for Risto. His physical play has been nice. 4000. I finally made it ma.
Iron Crotch Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Seconded. Except for Risto. His physical play has been nice. Risto is probably the best of the guys who might be sent down. He is pretty close. My only thought about giving him 1/2 year or so in Rochester is he can get a ton of ice time and more importantly a lot of special teams time (both PP and PK), which should help in the long run.
dudacek Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Risto is a 6/7 at the NHL level at 18. Let him be a top two in the AHL, kill penalties and play the PP. This guy is going to be a stud. Feed his confidence.
Drunkard Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Seconded. Except for Risto. His physical play has been nice. I'd honestly prefer to see Ristolainen stay here in Buffalo and get top 4 defensive minutes, see time on the 2nd team power play, along with some time on the penalty kill. Let him earn his lumps and learn on the fly because he has looked solid to good for the most part and he hasn't looked out of place too often. However, if he's gonna get benched every 3rd game for McBain or some other retread, I'd rather see him eating top minutes in all situations on the top pairing in Rochester. Swap him out for McNabb if they aren't going to give him the ice time he needs to be logging at this stage in his development. Bringing up McNabb will leave a top D spot open for Ristolainen to get all the ice time he needs.

If they send him down, they really need to tell him it wasn't skill related as much as we want him to get more minutes and experience being a top guy.

dudacek Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 I'd rather just eliminate some Darcy plugs like Tallinder and McBain. Me too, but it's wishful thinking and it's what got Darcy and Rolston fired. First the kids have to pay the price, he's got to show he's better than Tallinder and McBain. And that hasn't been the case.

Nitro60 Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 The Darcy Regier insane youth movement is dead. No long trying to kill young players love for the game by bringing them into the NHL too early and getting shown up nightly. Nolan is going to change that. I think they might bring back veterans like McNabb, Sulzer, Kaleta and Adam. Send down the rookies for seasoning in the AHL or back to Juniors.

SwampD Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Boy, there sure is some revisionist history going on in this thread. It's amazing how fast we've flipped from "Why are ____ and ____ in the press box?!?!" to "All the kids must go back down!" I really don't know who should go and who should stay, but having a hard time seeing how going back to juniors and being able to dominate while floating is a good thing for Grigorenko's development. Seems like he could pick up some bad habits down there.
shrader Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 This has to be a decision that comes from Sacco and the other coaches as opposed to Nolan. I can't picture how he has been around long enough to know that this is the right move.
papazoid Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 After getting a look at both of his goaltenders this weekend, Ted Nolan said he planned to “ride the horse” in regards to Ryan Miller. The Buffalo netminder said Monday there will be times he needs to stay in the stable. http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/sabres-nhl/miller-ready-for-more-work-but-up-to-a-point-20131118 good move....next start for Enroth probably Nov 29 or 30 (next back to back).

I could be wrong, but I believe most were bitching about players in the press box because they wanted the guys to play, and at the time, the NHL was the only place they could. Playing is better than not playing, regardless of where.

Well, you are probably right regarding Griggy specifically, but it sounds like the philosophical approach of keeping the kids in juniors or the AHL is coming from Nolan (and I suspect PLF as well).

I'd be curious to hear what the other coaches think of it, but we never will. For all we know, these guys were always in favor of them being in the AHL/juniors, but it wasn't their call to make.

Playing is better than not playing, regardless of where. Which is why for months I have been lobbying for Ristolainen and Larsson to go to Rochester and play tons of minutes. I also begged for Zadorov to go to Juniors the second he was healthy. The only player who may go down that will surprise me is Grigorenko. It surprises me because they already screwed that pooch up.

The best scenario for that is to have veterans as opposed to greenhorns.
LTS Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 I think there are people seriously over thinking all of this right now (and I mean here, on this board). The management is going to make personnel decisions that allow them to understand the talent and motivation behind every NHL eligible player they have. Grigorenko - ultimately we may lose him and he could be a bust so no big deal. We discussed the decision to keep him on the roster last year so no need to go into it. That ship sailed. Right now the best place for him is Juniors. If he bolts, he bolts and that tells you he wasn't the guy you wanted anyway. If he gets motivated then that happens and if he's a bust, well who cares. Zadarov - lots to like about him, but moving him to Juniors is the RIGHT move. Could he develop in Buffalo? Absolutely. However, he can develop next year too when there isn't a logjam at defense. Ristolainen - holds his own at the NHL level. However, Sabres need to know what they have in McNabb and Sulzer. So they can move him down to AHL with no waiver requirement and they will do it. He may be back once they decide their defense for next year. Larsson - same as Ristolainen. Bringing up Adam allows them to see if he has what it takes. If I am in that locker room I am telling every player that everything has changed. They've said clean slate and that means that each player has to be evaluated in order to set the direction. No player should look at a demotion as a slight towards them but more of an admittance that the past leadership made mistakes that have to be changed. Every person can see that the Sabres need to improve and that's not going to happen by making no moves at all. The management is not going to care about winning over the next month or two so much as they are hoping to find the direction that leads to winning a few months from now and into next season. If the players who get moved around can't handle that logic then they might not be the players the Sabres need.
That Aud Smell Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Multiple writers tweeting that Risto, Zadorov, Grigo, and Larsson have all been seen packing up their gear.
nfreeman Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Multiple writers tweeting that Risto, Zadorov, Grigo, and Larsson have all been seen packing up their gear. Well, if Zadorov is leaving too, that means we'll see McNabb (in addition to, presumably, Luker and Kaleta), innit? But I guess Gus is staying -- which kinda makes sense, at least relative to the other 4, as he's already had a full year in the A. So maybe: Hodgy-Moulson-Stafford Luker-Ennis-Ott Gus-Leino-Foligno McCormick-Kaleta-Scott Ehrhoff-Pysyk Myers-Tallinder Weber-McNabb Extra: Tropp, Flynn, McBain Let's see 'em against a good STL team. Go Sabres.
LGR4GM Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Brayden McNabb and Luke Adam are practicing with the #Amerks. So are Alex Sulzer, Phil Varone and Kevin Porter.

Eleven Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Same stuff is going on in two different threads right now--the roster thread has a post stating that Kaleta is not on the ice w/ Roch.
PromoTheRobot Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Paul Hamilton @pham171734m 55 and 22 have been sent to Roch Paul Hamilton @pham17179m Zadorov and Grigorenko both not on the ice.
