Scott did nothing to deserve 14 minutes, but, for the referee, what Scott did or didn't do is a secondary consideration to keeping the game in hand. This was a much-hyped game on the League's biggest stage and teams and officials were well-warned beforehand not to let things degenerate.

The refs ensured two of the most likely gong show participants were gone for the rest of the game, got the other two off the ice for an extended period of time and gave the Sabres a two-minute power play since it was the Leaves who instigated the melee.

Deluca's cheap shot against Scott is unwarranted, but the officials handled the situation very well.

Officials should react to what actually occurs on the ice, not what they think will happen. If they didn't want Scott to fight, and Scott throws a punch, then give him the misconduct. But don't call something that isn't there. Referees deciding who should be on the ice by making arbitrary, phantom calls, cheapens the game way more than a "staged" fight. If fighting causes such consternation for league officials, just ban it. Until then, size vs. skill is a legitimate coaching decision in just about every sport, and it should remain just that, a coaching decision.

This. x1000.

What we saw last night with John Scott was not officiating. And the officials that called the penalties should be fined.

Against my better judgement was on this site after loss and after win polked in fun after loss and was my intention to do same after win on Scott and issue of enforcers it in my view a hockey issue not a singular sabre one that sabres singled out flat out silly to be clear I come to have fun share some conversation but will never exchange in the personal

Bad feelings do not believe I need permission on site have been a poster from day one with not warning of nasty behaviour check my posts if you will have never demeaned the city of buffalo , it's people , teams the same cannot be said for many of you the bad feeling entirely on your side have rooted for sabres since day one but became disaffected with the era of dr looking very much forward with last weeks changes some exciting and fun times and something of value to talk about

If this whole incident was about goons and not about Scott then McLaren and Orr would have both gotten 10 as both were clearly the aggressors here. Hell, if it were about goons the misconducts would have started early as it was obvious early that the wolf pack of Orr-McLaren were spoiling for a a fight.

Ah yup. I love how blinded Deluca is by his John Scott hate that he doesn't even want to acknowledge the injustice dealt against the team he supposedly roots for.

And the hits keep coming.....take a gander at Dennis Seidenberg clipping Bobby Ryan with an unnecessary elbow. Who is more of a risk for player safety, the guy who plays 5 minutes a night and only dresses for 45 games, or the guy skating 25 minutes for all 82? Meanwhile, the league will try to justify that sending Scott to the showers is getting serious in regards to player safety. The way to get rid of goons is to either call the rules the way they should be (interference must be up 500% since the lockout), or you fine teams for suspensions, and make the penalties large.

A side note....I think players love playing for Nolan because he allows them to try and be hockey players. Regardless of if it works or not, I'm betting John Scott has an extra jump in his step today knowing that Nolan expects him to try and be a hockey player. And having direct orders to not get in a staged confrontation is the right thing to do.

It's the same way Rob Ray was able to have a long NHL career. There's no reason Scott can't do the same. Unless the NHL has decided that unfair discrimination is acceptable. I would imagine the NHLPA might have cause to file a grievance seeing as how it's the players they represent who still want Scott in the game.

Best part of the ###### movie!

My thoughts on Scott was if he wanted to fight, he would have fought someone well before midway through the 3rd period. The refs overreacted to a potential threat based on reputation. At least they had the sense to (a) throw one from each team out and (b) give the Sabres a power play out of the whole event.

And... is this really the same team that was ridiculously over-matched in just about every game this season? I love me some Ted Nolan!

Its become clear after 2 games of the nolan era just how badly RR was in over his head.

Your need for controversy is endless. Now that DR is gone you had to come up with something to rail against, right?

That's exactly what he's doing. Making ridiculous comments in hopes of attention. Looks like I just contributed.

No player will ever say anything bad about a past coach (or GM for that matter) but you can clearly see how happy the players are to have the new regime and how willing they are to fight for Ted Nolan.

I only watched this past game, but a few changes are obvious:

1. Our wingers are positioned differently in the defensive zone (top of the faceoff circles?)

2. Our d-men look like the have the green light to carry the puck in and/or jump into the play if they see an opening

3. We are actually cycling the puck in the offensive zone!

I also like that Teddy put guys back into their natural positions and that he is more willing to roll 4 lines and 3 defensive pairings than RR ever was.

LGR,

Re: Millbank ... :o

Now about Scott.

Was he not drafted / played as a D-man in Chicago.

What if the Sabres went all Chara with him and used him as that stud, but clean, D-man that some envision Myers as?

Would that work, or is Scott a marked man by the league powers that be regardless of what position he plays?

He can't skate. Put him on D and it's basically a shootout for the other team.

Regarding the bolded, apparently Ville Leino didn't get that message.

Posting history aside, and well intentioned or not, gloating on an opposing fan site moments after a loss is a no-no. You should know better.

Or, if you are gonna gloat, make a big spectacle out of it and at least get some real entertainment value out of it. :P

Exactly. Don't do it, and then pretend you didn't. That's some weak sauce. Get in there and really stir the sh!t pot. I can at least respect that.

Actually,… no, I can't. Just shut up until the rage passes.

Interesting. I'd heard the "lack of communication" gripe about Darcy many times before, but not about Rolston. A lot of what players seems to be wanting is pretty much what any employee in any industry wants... communication, they don't want to be micro-managed, they want to be trusted, they want seniority to mean something, etc.

I'll just reiterate what I said the other day. It's amazing to me that things that we as fans consider to be common sense could have been so overlooked. The evidence post-mortem against Regier just continues to bubble to the surface.

lets get back to the game itself. We actually saw a solid 2 periods from the Sabres. Again they blew major balls the first period and I like the fact Nolan told them they played like garbage. I would guess we see some sort of trade before christmas and possibly before a new gm is in place. We are at least playing better than before.
