Claude_Verret Posted November 16, 2013 Report Posted November 16, 2013 If anything games like these will make myers and stafford look good and upping their value. If nothing else we'll get bigger returns for them. As for a top 3 pick, i still say we'll fall back down when miller gets traded. they were playing this song on the radio when i was checking up on the sabres. Seemed very fitting. Nice. I also like this Southern Culture song for the new Nolan era. "Ditch Diggin".....don't it feel good to work so hard! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vA_V10MJTo
inkman Posted November 16, 2013 Report Posted November 16, 2013 I enjoyed hearing a coach use the word compete appropriately in a post game presser.
LGR4GM Posted November 16, 2013 Report Posted November 16, 2013 I see some people want the tank still. Go look at this draft there isnt a player that is truly worth tanking for. Also with a new gm we may finally have a guy willing to move from 10 to say 3 if possible as opposed to Darcy overvaluing everything all the time. We need to win this year and luck out next year and get Mcdavid... Honestly I think the young guys we have good actually create a cup team. So we win. We need to keep competing because this team doesn't have enough talent to win on talent alone. The leafs had no centers so keep that in mind but the Sabres actually battled. It's only one game so let's see if they can keep it up. Let's go Buffalo.
DR HOLLIDAY Posted November 16, 2013 Report Posted November 16, 2013 I agree to many of your points, but on two: The goal on Miller was not a softie. The shot hit Ehrhoff and deflected in a totally other direction. In my opinion bad luck I like McBain and Ristolainen, Weber was bad, but i love Zadorov too. Agreed, Miller had no chance on that one……So against the run of play as well.
26CornerBlitz Posted November 16, 2013 Author Report Posted November 16, 2013 Agreed, Miller had no chance on that one……So against the run of play as well. No chance for Miller with Ehrhoff deflecting the shot. Ehrhoff redeemed himself with the save on JVR and the ENG.
Sabres Fan in NS Posted November 16, 2013 Report Posted November 16, 2013 LaFontaine-Nolan Tribute  ... of joy. Thank you for posting ... Great win, great effort.
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted November 16, 2013 Report Posted November 16, 2013 Didn't notice the deflection. That was how a traditional Miller outside shot goes in though. Slow lateral movement of the puck with just a tad of traffic.
Jsixspd Posted November 16, 2013 Report Posted November 16, 2013 So it was one NHL center per team, then? Kadri was suspended, and Bolland and Bozak were already out due to injuries, so 3 of their regular centers weren't able to play. That was a definite help to the Sabres, to face a somewhat diminished Maple Leafs line up, and the timing was perfect to help give a boost to the New Era Sabres; http://www.sbnation....injuries-center
inkman Posted November 16, 2013 Report Posted November 16, 2013 Didn't notice the deflection. That was how a traditional Miller outside shot goes in though. Slow lateral movement of the puck with just a tad of traffic. The shot was headed short side or wide left of the net. Ehrhoff tries blocking it with his skate, instead deflects the puck 3 ft to the right, into the net.
darksabre Posted November 16, 2013 Report Posted November 16, 2013 Didn't notice the deflection. That was how a traditional Miller outside shot goes in though. Slow lateral movement of the puck with just a tad of traffic. Those shots really are the hardest to read as a goalie. Fast shots are easy. It's counter intuitive I know, but it has to do with the mechanics of goaltending. The shot you think is going to be fast through traffic but is actually slow is the hardest to get the timing right on. You've already anticipated and made the motion to save the puck where you thought it was going to be, only to have it arrive late and nowhere near where you expected it. Worst feeling in the world  And sort of the weakness of positional goaltending as we know it today.
Stoner Posted November 16, 2013 Report Posted November 16, 2013 Don't get the Carvery beef on weck. I'm sure that's local knowledge I'm just picking up on. Seeing that strange meat get dunked in tepid water before landing on my bun reminded me of… of… I got nothin' here, but maybe Ghost can pitch in with something.
qwksndmonster Posted November 16, 2013 Report Posted November 16, 2013 So it was one NHL center per team, then? Almost this exact exchange occurred between me and a Torontonian "friend" of mine on facebook last night.
North Buffalo Posted November 16, 2013 Report Posted November 16, 2013 Only saw part of the game, the first period. Looked like the effort was there, nice to see it lasted all game and can't believe they actually outshot someone. Helped the Leaves were down a bunch of centers. Hear that Darcy... See what happens when you don't have talented centers... You lose. Took too long to figure that out and then last year 2 D were drafted... Duh...
bunomatic Posted November 16, 2013 Report Posted November 16, 2013 Almost this exact exchange occurred between me and a Torontonian "friend" of mine on facebook last night. Given the Sabres lack of talent I think these teams were pretty even. Your Torontonitian friend wasn't Millbank was it ? He's been pretty quiet since last night. lol
BuffaloBorn Posted November 16, 2013 Report Posted November 16, 2013 coulda sworn I saw a d4rk sabre sighting at the game behind the bench

Nicely done.
Stoner Posted November 16, 2013 Report Posted November 16, 2013 I forgot to mention two of the funniest moments from my arena experience. When they showed Jean Knox on the videoboard, some guy behind me said pretty loudly, "Who's the chick?!" Then after the game a very drunk Leaf fan almost went over the side of the escalator in a meeting of the minds with a Sabre fan. A security guy who reminded me very much of Mike from Breaking Bad gave the putz a pretty long leash until said putz got in Mike's face and rubbed Mike's cheek. Then it got interesting.

Hoss Posted November 16, 2013 Report Posted November 16, 2013 I didn't want to say this last night because ###### us fans deserved on night of unconditional joy, but let's be realistic here. Last night was the result of a perfect storm of emotions. The team ALWAYS plays hard against Toronto. Toronto is missing a few of their best players. The players HAD to come out with their best effort or they would be embarrassed by the fans, media and organization. The pressure was on the last. Is it sustainable? I doubt it. The new coach will eventually wear off at least SOME. The effort will always be high under Ted Nolan, but last night was that on steroids. They won't be facing injury riddled teams from the franchise we all hate every game. They might carry this for a week or so, but this team is still VERY bad. And it'll get worse eventually. The tank is still the best move.
