Hoss Posted November 29, 2013 Report Posted November 29, 2013 You do realize that Kovi was traded? Yeap. And signed as a free agent. But it's not an impressive call by any means. Malkin was rumored to be available this offseason. Is it impressive to say we should go for him? More realistic and non-obvious solutions would be ok to brag about.
wjag Posted November 29, 2013 Report Posted November 29, 2013 whats tsc ? Team Storm Cloud -- a group of posters that focused on the dismantling of the core, the coach and GM.
deluca67 Posted November 29, 2013 Report Posted November 29, 2013 That's a good one, and I'm fine with how that turned out. Roy is already on his third team since Buffalo. What is Roy doing now? He has settled in nicely as the #3 center on one of the best teams in the NHL. I seem to recall that certain posters who stated that Roy was best suited as a #3 and the claims Regier made of Roy being a top two center were a reach.

I can't say I didn't want Roy gone, so I'm not going to go there. But a friend who always liked Roy made a good point: there's a reason that a solid team that could score went to a garbage team that couldn't score soon after they traded a talented center away from a third-line pest with little offensive ability.

And what's that? Roy is a scoring centerman. He had 7 goals with Dallas and Vancouver in 42 games played. Not something you'd want to brag about. More notably, he repeated his playoff disappearing act with Vancouver as he was known to do with Buffalo.
darksabre Posted November 29, 2013 Report Posted November 29, 2013 Team Storm Cloud -- a group of posters that focused on the dismantling of the core, the coach and GM. It's more than that though. I wanted all of those things but have never been a member of TSC. TSC is an attitude.

But celebrating Ott as a positive move isn't really saying anything. He hasn't really done anything positive for this team. He's chipped into the laughing at this franchise if anything. I will say it's not his fault that they put the C on him.

I have never once heard anyone laughing about the franchise because of OttAround the league he is respected and has done nothing to say he should not be wearing the 'C' for this team. Just because the team doesn't have enough talent around him to be better doesn't mean he has been a failure as Captain.

Steve Ott scored 9 goals and had 15 assists for 24 points in 48 games. Derek Roy scored 7 goals and had 21 assists for 28 points in 42 games. Try again.

Breaking news: Sabrespace has gone so crazy that four less points in six more games when completely ignoring situation means equal offensive production.

SwampD Posted November 30, 2013 Report Posted November 30, 2013 People for whom it always is winter, and never Christmas. No. People for whom when their legs are getting pissed on, push back when told it's only raining.

Hoss Posted November 30, 2013 Report Posted November 30, 2013 So do we have any legitimate speculation from the last few days? Haven't been hearing much. That's likely more of a good thing than a bad one.
qwksndmonster Posted November 30, 2013 Report Posted November 30, 2013 Breaking news: Sabrespace has gone so crazy that four less points in six more games when completely ignoring situation means equal offensive production. Situation? What situation? Ott played defense, hit people, and provided leadership while Derek Roy played so meh that he got flipped at the deadline. And thinking that four less points in six more games is significant when Ott has two more goals is asinine.

No, but it's been a weekly topic on Hotstove satellite on the HNIC Pre-game show, so all eyes on Elliott Friedman tonight prior to the Sabres game, hopefully he hooks us up with some info.

His thirty thoughts always pop quite a few Sabres notes out. Always look forward to that. Maybe tonight will be the first night in a while that we hear some names.
26CornerBlitz Posted November 30, 2013 Report Posted November 30, 2013 @SabresProspects Keep hearing Brad Treliving's name come up in GM chatter. Currently Coyotes VP of Hockey Ops/Asst. GM. PHX good at assessing player value.

PHX good at assessing player value. Don't know anything about him, but Phoenix has been fielding very competitive teams with absolutely no payroll for many years now. So they must have some guys in their front office who know what they're doing.
