There are some very respectable posters on this board who have grievances against the current owner. I was wondering what it would take for said posters to "bury the hatchet," so to speak, and treat this day like a new dawn.

For me, this gesture would necessitate Mr. Pegula putting full faith in Mr. Lafontaine to manage the hockey department for 3 years, in effect, becoming a yes-man to Lafontaine for a while, while he learns the ropes.

It would also include a spoken denunciation of the term 'hockey heaven.' That sort of moniker comes after the fact. Call it Hockey Haven, or something less blasphemous, till we get our third, at least.

It would also include a reportable and complete withdrawal from all natural gas related activities, so that he can focus entirely on this new epoch in his life, as family man and owner of the Buffalo Sabres. This is New York State, after all, and the politics of fracking are a complete distraction from the ultimate goal, of winning a Stanley Cup.

That's about all I can think of. How about you?

I think Terry has seen the light so to speak. He did what he said he would do and gave DR a good shot to get things right but with a fan base that was crying for change he had to pull the trigger. This goes a long way for me in showing he is serious about his promise to the people of Buffalo that the ultimate goal is the cup first and foremost. I commend him for making what for him was probably a tough decision. GO SABRES !

I'm a couple beers in, so posters that might have seemed objectionable to me sober, get a free pass now, dudacek.

Do they also get a pair of Kim's shoes?

Your bringing in fracking to this is taking things too far from a hockey discussion. This place is for hockey, not political agendas. Take that schit to PPP over on the Bills side.

Back on course, though, I think that there were a number of legitimate concerns about the direction that the franchise was going. The owner seemed out of touch or distracted, but I'm hoping that today marks the actual opening of the Pegula Era, though I still have my stated concerns, which could be easily ameliorated. I'm just saying, that it's within my sights to forgive the owner for perceived faults if things go in the right direction.

Today is a day that renews faith. Wrongs will be righted and the truth eventually is divulged through nature.

As far as hockey goes, I believe Mr. Pegula wants to win a championship in Buffalo.

As far as anything else.....I use the 16 year lapse in justice that was instituted today as the law of the land. I am much more confident in talking of the former GM's motives than those of the current owner. Give me another 13 years and I will have a clue. :)

It's been an absolute pleasure reading through your posts from today, Ghost. It's been one of those days, where I couldn't post, but was thinking about the place, and I shouldn't single you out, because there were many awesome posts and it would be boring without so many different personalities on here.

To clarify, Mr. Amerk, the hatchet's not being buried until all of my demands are met. I still wield the hatchet, of course, for I must give the impression that I'm entitled to some sort of negotiation with Mr. Pegula, otherwise, I wouldn't have any leverage when I ask him to reimburse me for motivating him. The hatchet is the stick, and the carrot is the Stanley Cup. Terry is the donkey, and I am riding him towards Delaware Avenue for the Parade.

I'll tell ya what might finally be dead and buried: the curse of Black Sunday.

I worry still... I like Pegula. He seems like he cares and he wants to win. What concerns me is how this all got started. 10 Days prior they met LaFontaine for Dinner during some league meeting. During the course of that T-Pegs is all drooling over LaFontaine and asks if he could be a GM (obviously thinking for the Sabres). That indicates to me that Terry was thinking of making the change but may have only made it because he was all nostalgic... This could be entirely wrong but the timing is odd for the whole thing. I think a change was coming but I think it happened the way it did because LaFontaine was available.

That being said, La Fontaine said he wasn't qualified to be GM which indicates he is a smart man who knows his limits and has no problem saying NO to Terry. Glad the change was made and something about having LaFontaine seems right.

The idea of Lafontaine as Sabres hockey boss has been out there for months.

I don't think it just occurred to to Terry over concussion talk at dinner.

The team has been bad for a while and it would be highly unlikely Terry wasn't thinking about (and, to some select people, talking about) potential replacements for Darcy.

I get the image of Uncle Terry as a dim bulb who is in way over his head running a professional hockey team. Just read his quotes...he sounds like someone who's had a lobotomy. He just doesn't know what he is doing. After all this failure since he took ownership, how could he offer the GM position to an inexperienced guy who knew he wasn't even qualified for the position? Didn't Terry know too? I could just see him getting all teary eyed and sentimental assembling his fantasy Sabres dream team in his plastic bubble where unicorns and rainbows all come neatly tied up in a pink ribbon.

Thanks dudacek! I wasn't sure if the donkey metaphor had any legs. Pronto, Burro! Onwards! Hyah! Hyah!

When is the parade?

Burro ensured me we'd make it in three years, but that was two years ago. At this rate, I'm not sure that I can trust him to get me there in seven. Get up, now, Burro! Get! Get!

I've got a cell phone, with a solar charger, so I've been trying to schedule the necessary meetings, and make the necessary arrangements, en-route. Needless to say, Donkey has not been entirely cooperative. His latest misbehavior is sit down on his haunches, forcing me to dismount, refusing to move forward. And he just keeps repeating the odd mantra: "There's no emperor, Yuri, no emperor, Yuri, nope, nope, no emperor, Yuri." My burro's gone mental!

It's the Empire State, donkey!!, George freaking Washington coined that, and he had a proper horse!! If you don't want this hatchet buried in your backside, you better Get! Get!! Hyah! Hyah!!

"I'm a people's burro, Yuri, ask anyone I've worked with, burro of the people, people's burro..." "There's no emperor, Yuri, no emperor.."

Arrrrrrrghhh!!!

I follow you...

The good thing about Lafontaine is that he left NY after a month because he couldn't handle Wang. (I know...I know...)

Having gone through that episode, I hope he'd be a bit more cautious in his dealings. My guess is that Lafontaine feels he can deal with a little bit of Terry's cra-cra and feels he will be allowed to do his job. If Lafontaine jumps ship in the next year or so....then we panic.
