Two or less Posted November 14, 2013 Report Posted November 14, 2013 Paul Fenton seems like a name to keep an eye out for. Very well respected in the hockey circles and LaFontaine did say there might be a guy he really wants but can't speak with until end of season and he seems to be the only guy on the list that we'd need to wait for. LaFontaine is a very popular guy among the hockey ranks, and some of his closest allies may be pushing him towards Fenton, so even though there is no connection, this could be a likely choice. The big 3 favorites from what i have gathered through numerious radio interviews and articles i've written are- (in no order) Neil Smith, Rick Dudley and Colin Campbell.
Eleven Posted November 14, 2013 Report Posted November 14, 2013 Interesting reading: http://blogs.edmonto...buffalo-sabres/ Not to pick on you (you didn't write it), but no, no, no, no, and no.
Hoss Posted November 14, 2013 Report Posted November 14, 2013 Julien Brisebrois, Paul Fenton and Jason Boterill are all guys that should get jobs soon. Maybe not Boterill for us because he's known for financials when we won't really need that type of guy for a while. We need a guy that knows how to scout and develop a roster. Not to pick on you (you didn't write it), but no, no, no, no, and no. Any suggestions?
Hoss Posted November 14, 2013 Report Posted November 14, 2013 I'm not that warm to the idea of Dudley. I just feel like there comes a point when you're going too far into the past. Bring in somebody from outside of the organization's history for GM. I'm pulling for Brisebrois right now. I like what he's done to help in Tampa, Montreal and in the AHL. He's got experience and is said to be well-connected which would bode well for making early trades.

darksabre Posted November 14, 2013 Report Posted November 14, 2013 Messier? Someone said that on the hotline this morning and I find it an intriguing option that under Regier was probably not possible.
bunomatic Posted November 14, 2013 Report Posted November 14, 2013 Messier? " No its me, your husband Wayne."
Hoss Posted November 14, 2013 Report Posted November 14, 2013 Messier? Don't hate it. Would be a big name. His experience comes only as a special assistant so it's more like an intern, but everybody starts somewhere.
Two or less Posted November 14, 2013 Report Posted November 14, 2013 Someone said that on the hotline this morning and I find it an intriguing option that under Regier was probably not possible. How could Messier be a possible GM under Regier?
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted November 14, 2013 Report Posted November 14, 2013 Someone said that on the hotline this morning and I find it an intriguing option that under Regier was probably not possible. When Torts got canned, there was lot of talk about Messier in some role with the Rangers. My guess given Fitzgerald's comments a few weeks ago is that he and Dudley are the top 2 candidates, possibly a 1-2 punch. Messier is interesting, but for Buffalo, he may be too much of a hardbody without truly understanding what he is walking into. I can't see it under the Pegula leadership structure.
darksabre Posted November 14, 2013 Report Posted November 14, 2013 How could Messier be a possible GM under Regier? I don't even know what I meant to say. You got me
beerme1 Posted November 14, 2013 Report Posted November 14, 2013 Messier is interesting, but for Buffalo, he may be too much of a hardbody without truly understanding what he is walking into. I can't see it under the Pegula leadership structure. He let Nolan back in the building. He Fired Lindy and Darcy. Seems like anything is possible now.
Andrew Amerk Posted November 14, 2013 Report Posted November 14, 2013 Messier? Messier and Nolan in the same room would be a ticking time bomb.
Campy Posted November 14, 2013 Report Posted November 14, 2013 I'll confess, I didn't read the blog the OP linked to. But if I had to bet a dollar, I'd say Botterill. Former player, smart, good reputation as a guy and as a decision maker, highly thought of in Pittsburgh, and just might remove the interim tag from Teddy, Yep. I think, I hope, it'll be Jason Botterill. Make it so Patty!

Hoss Posted November 14, 2013 Report Posted November 14, 2013 When Torts got canned, there was lot of talk about Messier in some role with the Rangers. Messier already had a role with the Rangers before Torts got canned. He was a special assistant there. The talk was of Messier becoming the head coach, and he actually interviewed. Just never got the spot. Pedestrian player at best...Please pass...Bring in a Gm who has the experience of winning a Cup and building it himself please There's definitely a long list of those guys available right now.
