This is all too fun to analyze just yet.

The one thing I will say about Nolan: If you want to change the culture of passivity, he's a good man for the job. He never seemed to be much about X's and O's and left-wing locks and schemes and systems (although I'm sure he has a system (a simple one perhaps)), he was more about getting players to play like they were going to skate through brick walls.

Was Nolan coach when Pat was in LI?

Briefly maybe? Pat quit after a couple of week when GM Neil Smith was fired. Summer of 06. 06-07 was Nolan's first year.

WGR confirming Ted Nolan.

This is just all so weird.

I would prefer people who were not formerly affiliated with the Sabres in any capacity, if they're going to hit the red button.

Z played for him right?

Ha, I was trying to think of anything Latvian.

Eleven: As for hiring people with zero connections to the team, this seems to be the way of life in the NHL now. Hire former players with limited experience for these roles. I don't get it.

I will not disagree that there's some potentially huge stupidity to this move, but ... again: The biggest gripe with this squad had been that the players play with a lack of urgency, a lack of determination. Nolan should be able to change that.
