SDS Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 This gives Pegula cover if the new guy wants to fire Darcy. Quote
nucci Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 Big deal. Unless it's a new GM and coach what good does it do? Make some fans happy who love LaFontaine? Quote
shrader Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 Hopefully he lasts longer than he did on the island. Quote
Eleven Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 (edited) [/size] We all love Pat LaFontaine, but it's a tad, eh, Marv Levy-ish? A terrifying - yet sincerely brilliant - forecast of what a Buffalo franchise typically does. Reach back into the past ... an overblown past that actually includes no championships ... with disastrous (predictable) results ... Yes, but... This gives Pegula cover if the new guy wants to fire Darcy. Yes. Edited November 13, 2013 by Eleven Quote
dudacek Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 Knew this type of move was coming. Quote
CallawaySabres Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 Time to bust out my #16 jersey Quote
Claude_Verret Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 In this climate it's a bad choice of words using "major" if it doesn't involve a coaching or GM change. This gives Pegula cover if the new guy wants to fire Darcy. Unless of course this happens. Quote
Stoner Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 This gives Pegula cover if the new guy wants to fire Darcy. Still my beating heart. Wow, if Regier survives this, we'll know a lot more about Pegula's meddling. We'll also know for sure Darcy has photos of Buffalo with its pants around its ankles humping a sheep. Quote
dudacek Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 Big deal. Unless it's a new GM and coach what good does it do? Make some fans happy who love LaFontaine? It is a big deal. Patty will be in charge of the hockey department. It looks like exactly what I was hoping for. Darcy will still be here, but not in charge. This is like Sakic in Colorado, or Neely in Boston. Quote
nucci Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 So Pegula hires someone to fire Regier? Quote
nobody Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 The Sabres still need to lose this season to get a top pick to rebuild. Quote
gohansrage Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 Will this let Darcy still make trades but let Lafontaine do literally everything else? Because that would be ideal. Quote
nobody Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 This is like Sakic in Colorado, or Neely in Boston. Seems to be the current trend. Quote
nucci Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 It is a big deal. Patty will be in charge of the hockey department. It looks like exactly what I was hoping for. Darcy will still be here, but not in charge. This is like Sakic in Colorado, or Neely in Boston. Those teams are successful because of the GM and coach. What does Neely do in Boston? Bruins have high quality GM and coach that run the team. If Darcy is not in charge who makes the personnel moves? If he is not in charge of the on ice team why is he still GM? Quote
darksabre Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 So this is basically Pegula saying "I want to fire Darcy but I don't know enough about hockey management to make that decision." Quote
26CornerBlitz Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 This is the beginning of Darcy being marginalized or gone. Quote
Stoner Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 Sign of the times. I visit here and Twitter for news. Buffalo News web site has nothing yet. It's surely going to be a better place for background, context, etc. but wow is old media slow off the dime. Will this let Darcy still make trades but let Lafontaine do literally everything else? Because that would be ideal. Ughhh. Cut out the tumor. Quote
mrm33064 Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 This is the beginning of Darcy being marginalized or gone. If this is the grand plan ... OK, I'll buy it. We all love LaFontaine, the guy is a prince. Quote
LGR4GM Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 Jeremy White @JeremyWGR Hacked account, right? RT @TBNbucky: Now hearing that Darcy and Rolston are out, LaFontaine in and possibly Ted Nolan returning as coach. This is one of the issues with Twitter, this seems possible but ultimately is not what is happening. Quote
sabills Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 So this is basically Pegula saying "I want to fire Darcy but I don't know enough about hockey management to make that decision." Which might be the smartest thing he's said yet. Quote
Weave Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 Hopefully he lasts longer than he did on the island. Yikes! Quote
That Aud Smell Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 No, Ted always denied being Darcy's boss. Yes - that's right (even if it was also weird). My bad. This does not strike me as Marv Levy-ish. As others have noted, this is more in keeping with the modern trend of putting a smart, savvy hockey guy at the top of your hockey ops. Quote
