sabresfan36 Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 https://mobile.twitt...655626727612416 Randy Cunneyworth hired as pro scout. Are we just grooming RR's replacement for a few weeks/months?
DR HOLLIDAY Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 I hope he does become the new coach at some point.
26CornerBlitz Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 I thought this was official when Kevin O and the D&C reported it a few days ago: http://forums.sabres...post__p__519976
sabresfan36 Posted November 2, 2013 Author Report Posted November 2, 2013 not trying to argue when it become official or when it was first reported. just commenting that maybe Rolston should be feeling some pressure from within that his replacement could have easily just been hired

MILFHUNTER#518 Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 I think he is a fallback plan if Rolston cannot dig this team out of the hole... It is always good to have options
Brawndo Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 Good hire, nice to have a coach in waiting
beerme1 Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 If he is being kept in the wings as a potential RR replacement, why? Just do it. Rolston clearly is in way over his head here and from what I have read was also in Roch.
LaLaLaFontaine Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 https://mobile.twitter.com/BuffaloSabres/status/396655626727612416 Randy Cunneyworth hired as pro scout. Are we just grooming RR's replacement for a few weeks/month? I alway feared tha Saco was their backup plan, good to know that we have other options now.
Andrew Amerk Posted November 3, 2013 Report Posted November 3, 2013 not trying to argue when it become official or when it was first reported. just commenting that maybe Rolston should be feeling some pressure from within that his replacement could have easily just been hired Somehow, I don't think RR cares.
... Posted November 3, 2013 Report Posted November 3, 2013 Somehow, I don't think RR cares. Just look at the way he dresses...dude don't care.
dudacek Posted November 3, 2013 Report Posted November 3, 2013 Cunneyworth over Sacco please, but only as a placeholder until the news GM gets to hire his guy.
spndnchz Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 I'm confused. We could start a thread for the newer news.
26CornerBlitz Posted January 8, 2014 Report Posted January 8, 2014 CUNNEYWORTH PROMOTED TO SPECIAL ASSISTANT ROLE BUFFALO, N.Y. (January 8, 2014) — The Buffalo Sabres today announced that Randy Cunneyworth has been promoted to be a special assistant and player development coach for the Rochester Americans, the team’s American Hockey League affiliate club. In his new role, Cunneyworth will work to develop players in Rochester and serve as a liaison to the Sabres. Cunneyworth re-joined the Sabres/Amerks organization in November as a pro scout. “This is an exciting opportunity to fully utilize all of Randy’s expertise as a hockey coach and mentor,” said Pat LaFontaine, the Sabres’ president of hockey operations. “Randy will work to ensure that the link between the Sabres and Amerks grows even stronger. Our goal is to make sure that the Amerks continue to thrive in developing and harnessing talent at the AHL level to be a reliable pipeline of NHL-ready players for the Sabres’ roster in the future.”
darksabre Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 This is a Murray move. Probably part of the discussion during the interview process. Immediately making a link to the minor league club.
Derrico Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 This is a Murray move. Probably part of the discussion during the interview process. Immediately making a link to the minor league club. Yep that's my first thought too. Glad he looks to be instituting his vision very early.
Eleven Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 This is a Murray move. Probably part of the discussion during the interview process. Immediately making a link to the minor league club. You may be right, but I've never seen a team announce the lower-level shifting ahead of the big GM announcement. In any sport.
darksabre Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 You may be right, but I've never seen a team announce the lower-level shifting ahead of the big GM announcement. In any sport. Gotta figure why wait? Maybe it was an idea Murray had and Pat said let's do it anyway.
Eleven Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 Gotta figure why wait? Maybe it was an idea Murray had and Pat said let's do it anyway. Or not. Where's your usually-present sense of logic on this one? It may ultimately be correct, but why tonight?
Bob Malooga Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 Excellent move...there is definitely a place for Randy Cunneyworth within this organization. I wouldn't mind bringing back Kevin Dineen, either...in some kind of role. If I recall correctly, he developed 2 AHL Rookie of the Year players, in Portland...with Gerbe and Ennis. I think he would be a great coach in Rochester.
dudacek Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 I think its pretty clear PLF hasn't been sitting still with the rest of the hockey department while wining and dining wannabe GMs. Murray may have had some influence, but it still isn't clear exactly what calls will be his and which ones will be Patty's. Either way, good move.
