not trying to argue when it become official or when it was first reported. just commenting that maybe Rolston should be feeling some pressure from within that his replacement could have easily just been hired

Got it, that's the same thing we were discussing in the RR poll thread.

If he is being kept in the wings as a potential RR replacement, why? Just do it. Rolston clearly is in way over his head here and from what I have read was also in Roch.

Somehow, I don't think RR cares.

CUNNEYWORTH PROMOTED TO SPECIAL ASSISTANT ROLE

BUFFALO, N.Y. (January 8, 2014) — The Buffalo Sabres today announced that Randy Cunneyworth has been promoted to be a special assistant and player development coach for the Rochester Americans, the team’s American Hockey League affiliate club. In his new role, Cunneyworth will work to develop players in Rochester and serve as a liaison to the Sabres. Cunneyworth re-joined the Sabres/Amerks organization in November as a pro scout.

“This is an exciting opportunity to fully utilize all of Randy’s expertise as a hockey coach and mentor,” said Pat LaFontaine, the Sabres’ president of hockey operations. “Randy will work to ensure that the link between the Sabres and Amerks grows even stronger. Our goal is to make sure that the Amerks continue to thrive in developing and harnessing talent at the AHL level to be a reliable pipeline of NHL-ready players for the Sabres’ roster in the future.”

This is a Murray move. Probably part of the discussion during the interview process. Immediately making a link to the minor league club.

Yep that's my first thought too. Glad he looks to be instituting his vision very early.

You may be right, but I've never seen a team announce the lower-level shifting ahead of the big GM announcement. In any sport.

Gotta figure why wait? Maybe it was an idea Murray had and Pat said let's do it anyway.

Or not. Where's your usually-present sense of logic on this one? It may ultimately be correct, but why tonight?

Excellent move...there is definitely a place for Randy Cunneyworth within this organization.

I wouldn't mind bringing back Kevin Dineen, either...in some kind of role. If I recall correctly, he developed 2 AHL Rookie of the Year players, in Portland...with Gerbe and Ennis. I think he would be a great coach in Rochester.

I think its pretty clear PLF hasn't been sitting still with the rest of the hockey department while wining and dining wannabe GMs.

Murray may have had some influence, but it still isn't clear exactly what calls will be his and which ones will be Patty's.

Either way, good move.
