Weave Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 It's like the John Scott situation. It's more about the crest that it is the player. It feeds into the paranoia that some fans have about the NHL wanting to "get" certain players only because they wear a Sabre uniform. It's not like the Scott situation for me at all. Maybe Scott's suspension was enough that the team felt it needed to do something, but I found the Scott suspension to be very odd. kaleta's suspension was a career in the making though.
MILFHUNTER#518 Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 Stafford is still on the roster, correct? Yes a travesty. Kaleta deserves to be here much moreso than him... IMO this has more to do with the Sabres succumbing to media, league, Milbury pressure than "doing what's best" for Kaleta. on point Bottom line, the Sabres caved to national media pressure. Apparently it's more important to them what the Milbury's and Pierre McGuire's of the world believe than their OWN fans!! No doubt the guy plays on the edge, but he give 110% every shift. took the words literally right out of my mouth
HopefulFuture Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 I thought the DR statement was spot on. Time for Pat to re-invent his game, only do it in the AHL. Leave the roster slot open for a younger player. Kaleta was a blood and guts player, still is. And yes, I truly believe he loved playing for Buffalo, but it's time to move on.
JJFIVEOH Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 Yes a travesty. Kaleta deserves to be here much moreso than him... Absolutely.
Iron Crotch Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 Our record historically has been better with Kaleta in the lineup compared to without him. Cheap shots aside, he is an effective player. Several teams will be interested in him.
MILFHUNTER#518 Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 I want another NHL team to scoop him off waivers out of spite, this organization doesn't deserve a player like him. He may not score goals, but he is stacked with intangibles

Weave Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 Pat regularly puts the team in a tough spot. They plan a roster spot for him. They work who else is on the roster with the assumption he's there. They miss out or choose to not have certain players on the roster because he is there playing the role. And then he does something stupid that gets him suspended or hurt or in hte penalty box and now the team that planned around him for the game, for the season, whatever, has to find another option. He's had plenty of chances to reinvent himself. Hell, Lindy used to speak of Kaleta's need to change rather often. He's lucky he is getting another chance to do it. Put a team in a tough spot as mant times as Pat has and most teams would have shown him the door and not thought twice about it.
SwampD Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 It's a bummer that he is not going to figure it out as a Sabre. I hope he does figure it out because, like someone said upthread, I think he could be a much better Ott if he just picked his spots.
biodork Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 One of only a small handful of guys on this miserable team that you could depend on to give 100% on every shift. Excellent on the PK. Blocks shots with abandon. Draws penalties. Hits. Fights. Agitates. Bleeds blue and gold. Pretty much the perfect fourth line player, and his effort and heart are exactly what this team needs more of. If you're actually trying to be "harder to play against," you don't waive Kaleta. Bottom line, the Sabres caved to national media pressure. Apparently it's more important to them what the Milbury's and Pierre McGuire's of the world believe than their OWN fans!! No doubt the guy plays on the edge, but he give 110% every shift. Agreed with both of these sentiments. My first reaction when I saw the news was, WTF?!? I'd take Kaleta over Tropp every day of the week. Yes, he has hs dumb moments, but he's incredibly hard-working and committed to improving himself. Yeah, let's get rid of one of the only guys who comes to play every night and might teach work ethic to the kids on the team.
wjag Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 I sure didn't see this coming, but he was on my should go list Best of luck PK

Exactly this. The Sabres are completely unreliable when it comes to having their heads in the game. So the obvious solution is waive the one guy whose effort we never had to worry about. Yet Stafford is still on the team. This says a lot about what the organization values.
26CornerBlitz Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 This. Exactly this. The Sabres are completely unreliable when it comes to having their heads in the game. So the obvious solution is waive the one guy whose effort we never had to worry about. Yet Stafford is still on the team. This says a lot about what the organization values. When he was eligible to play...yes. Problem is he can't seem to play without going over the edge and ultimately hurting the team with him being suspended/wasting a roster spot. This is why he's on waivers as of today. It's not that complicated.

MILFHUNTER#518 Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 Hi best intangible is being able to tell teammates what to expect in an in-person DoPS hearing. Or lighting a fire under the @$$es of the pu$$ie$ that permeate this club when adversity arises... Hopefully Staff Infection is next...
wjag Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 Amidst all the losing, there have been some interesting roster shake ups as well.. For a team on the precipice of futility, there sure is a lot to talk about. Like how Gerbe has more goals than Vanek.

LaLaLaFontaine Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 If Stafford reignites hehas some trade value, maybe his contract year will show the real ( fake?) Stafford again. Honestly i doubt that any team in the NHL needs a waived player from the worst team. Especially one with stigmatas written all over him. Yes Kaleta may be 100% motivated but his value was/is low nevertheless. Currently McCormick is clearly the better player. He fights, plays with 100% motivation and even makes some nice plays here and then. When Scott returns he should be scratched, because McCormick is also much more usefull in comparison to him. Scott should play versus Boston though, only to show those bastards what we are willing to do.
beerme1 Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 Pat has been on my get rid of list for a long time. But the timing of this is bush league. Stafford gets a mentioned a lot in this thread. Why hasn't Darcy done anything with him? Why Rolston hasn't is an even bigger question to me.
TrueBlueGED Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 I don't understand the negative emotion. This guy has the skating skills to be a valuable checking line forward but he committed to a game that was controversial at best. the Sabres are trying to do something most every other team in the league wouldn't do, try to teach him to play a different game, a game that would make him of value to anyone in the league. I find it commendable. I'm in the same boat. His game as it currently stands is all too replaceable. Hell, Corey Tropp is about to show us just how replaceable it is. and lets face it, who the hell is Corey tropp, really? I'm not at all convinced Tropp has the defensive chops Kaleta does. He certainly brings a bit more offensive skill though.
Huckleberry Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 Still feels like we're bowing down to the league or something. Hope he can come back, cause without the bad name he has, and the penalties that will follow because of that. He is as good as a fourth liner you can have.
26CornerBlitz Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 Still feels like we're bowing down to the league or something. Hope he can come back, cause without the bad name he has, and the penalties that will follow because of that. He is as good as a fourth liner you can have. When you factor in suspensions and injuries, he simply cannot be relied upon. As others have pointed out, Tropp and McCormick make PK36 expendable.
Huckleberry Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 And the stunt that happened betweend philly and washington ranks much higher then the hit kaleta did. They should suspend Emery for 20 games.
Taro T Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 Is the assumption this decision was Regier's? We'll have to wait and see what happens to Scott when his suspension is up. I have to wonder if this came down from Pegula. Kaleta and Scott's suspensions have been huge embarrassments for the franchise. Well, according to Paul Hamilton, RR was not on board with this one. No idea if it came from higher up than DR, but he hasn't shied from removing 'edgy' players from this roster in the past. This move probably is necessary for Kaleta to continue to have an NHL career - staying w/in the comfort and familiarity of what is the Sabres would most likely never get him to bring his game under control. This will be a bigger wakeup call than the 10 games was. It'll give him a chance to show that he's a changed man and there is a slight chance that this gets the league's big dogs to stop giving him the Dave Schultz treatment (administered to him by the refs themselves, not the league's higher up). Cooke seems to have worked himself out of the league doghouse. I hope for his sake that Pat manage to do that as well.
