New GM / Coach combo

I'll be one of the twelve. Let's take over this franchise.

Guys that I like as potential head coaches for us: Housley, Tony Granato, Mark Messier (kind of as a "why the ###### not" idea), Mike Johnston (could be the next junior hockey coach, like Roy, to make the jump). Those are names I like.

As far as general managers, I don't mind the idea of Fitzgerald (considered a cap genius) or Botterill. Not as crazy about Dudley as most are. Clause Loiselle is a name I'm interested in, Joe Will (SJ assistant GM) and Tampa's Julien BriseBois are all names I like.

If Darcy's still the GM they'd probably be better going with Mark Johnson. (And I'd probably go w/ his (dead) father over the current stiff as well.)

Not sure what the joke is here.

This team needs a coach with fire and the will to win. At this point in the season I think Roy would have probably done that.. seeing what he's doing in Colorado. Oh well. They stuck with the loyalty thing that Pegula loves..

There are coaches out there.. there are GMs.

It's irrelevant that we stuck with Rolston. Roy was going to Colorado over us either way. Grigorenko and the fact that his son plays in the minors (but never the NHL) wasn't going to take him away from a team at the end of a rebuild and a world class player coming in.

I wouldn't say it's irrelevant. I think what you are getting at is that Roy wasn't an option and that's fine. I'm saying that a coach with the passion and fire Roy has is what this team needs, whether it was Roy or not. I think Torts would have been another one who would have turned this team around. It's the style I would look for...

However, it's extraordinarily relevant that we stuck with Rolston because that's 50% of the reason this thread exists. He sucks.

I was saying it's irrelevant to the conversation about Roy.

On a serious note, this tidbit was in the Ottawa Sun.

The vultures are keeping a close eye on Buffalo GM Darcy Regier. Sabres' president Ted Black is asking the proud fanbase to be patient, but that's wearing thin. The name of NHL VP Colin Campbell has surfaced as a candidate for the job if the Sabres decide to make a change. He has turned down GM's jobs in the past, but lives nearby in Tillsonburg and Buffalo would be a nice fit.

Nice. That mofo would tell Terry where to hang it. Thus, he would never get the job. #speculation #conjecture #######youidonthavealink

I can't believe no one has yet posted the obvious choices:

Bruce Garrioch is one of the more reliable guys around the league. A lot of connections.

Joke? He's in the Bucky class of "journalists".

You're not serious, right? Say what you will about his style, but he's always one of the first to get stuff out there. He's a bit of a scum and out there, but he's got some connections.

His hit rate is barely above Eklund.
