bunomatic Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 Look at the hit from Chara in last nights game against the Sharks, in the Scott hit, people complained it was late, then look at the hit from Chara which came much later than the Scott hit, other differences are Scott delivered the hit with his body, it appears that Chara delivered a crosscheck to the head, but the main difference is that Scott was thrown from the game and will be suspended and Mike Milbury is calling for him to be tossed from the league, while Chara didn't even receive a penalty. No double standards in the NHL. http://prohockeytalk...-with-high-hit/ they'll call it a hockey play. Chara ia a good hockey player and serves a purpose but he's far dirtier than John Scott has ever been. He's Chris Pronger dirty.

That Aud Smell Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 Branden Bollig Kevin Westgarth Shawn Thornton Ben Eager Eric Goddard Aaron Downey George Parros Jesse Boulerice Of the Above mentioned Stanley cup winners, only Thronton has a lick of hockey talent. There is nothing wrong with having John Scott under contract. He is not what is holding the team back. I disagree with your broad-brush characterization of those players--at least one of them (Eager) scored double-digit goals in an NHL season. But you're right: Scott is not what's holding the team back. Mostly, what I've been reacting to here is the suggestion from several posters that Scott could become a serviceable ~10 minute a night guy.
skaught Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 They'll also say that he's tall and he can't help but hit someone in the head. More importantly he's a Bruin, no suspension.

LastPommerFan Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 More importantly he's a Bruin, no suspension. One theory I'm working with is this: Chara playing big and dirty will bring more money into the league than the eventual concussion lawsuit settlement will cost, Guys like Scott will not. One result of the NFL settlement will be that every head hit and potentially dangerous play will be viewed by the league as an accounting chip in that inevitable lawsuit. Suspending Scott gives them evidence for the defense while costing them nothing now. Punishing Chara and causing him to play smaller and cleaner would cost them money now.

Something that very few people are actually suggesting, and a suggestion that should simply be ignored for its outlandishness.

darksabre Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 I feel like cross checking someone in the face is intent to injure... Did the player die on the ice? No. No suspension.
shrader Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 Did the player die on the ice? No. No suspension. Suspended for getting in Chara's way.
darksabre Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 Let's not forget Chara concussing Wingels last night as well. Two dirty hits in one game. Not even a phone call. http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2013/10/25/video-chara-knocks-sharks-wingels-out-of-game-with-high-hit/
bunomatic Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 I feel like cross checking someone in the face is intent to injure... was that play from the same game last night ? Chara was really taking it out on Hertle last night. I wonder if the league will look into this thugs actions? Not.
Kristian Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 was that play from the same game last night ? Chara was really taking it out on Hertle last night. I wonder if the league will look into this thugs actions? Not. Chara's never been suspended, so of course not. He also plays for the league darlings, hence he will never *be* suspended. The NHL makes me sick to my stomach with their complete and obvious double standards, I wouldn't even expect bias such as this from a 3rd world dictatorship.
FolignosJock Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 Neil's hit on Drury was very similar. Chris should have been suspended, John should and will be suspended. The problem is still that the league is extremely subjective in its enforcement standards and until Charo kills someone he will never be suspended. Look at the Neil hit again, it is much worse. Directed at the head and from the blind side.
That Aud Smell Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 It's hard to tell what's happening with that cross-check. Seriously. Did Hertl come in hard after Rask had frozen the puck? Did a 6'9" guy just stick out his lumber and ride up into a shorter guy's mug? The other hit in the corner on Wingels was high (and intentionally so), and avoidable and late. If it were a player other than Chara on a team other than the Bruins, there'd almost certainly be some supplementary discipline, especially since Wingels didn't return. Also, where'd the heck this come from?
qwksndmonster Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 Robot chicken. Except the Chara jersey is photoshopped.
SwampD Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 Also, where'd the heck this come from? Looks like someone Photoshopped a Robot Chicken sketch.
inkman Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 The outrage by the media is laughable. The NHL has 5-10 hits like this a week. They decide because they don't like the player or team involved to raise holy hell over it. The NHL always has been and always will be a joke with enforcement of penalties and suspensions.
rickshaw Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 They will throw the ok at Scott even though he has no priors. Sid the kid does the same hit, or chara, maybe a game if that. Just other reason this league looks lamer and lamer all the time.

Yep, one step shy of the WWF. They might as well get Bobby the Brain Heenan to hand out these suspension rulings.
Huckleberry Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 I really want to see Scott beat the ###### out of Chara, lucic , marchand ....
neverenough Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 I really want to see Scott beat the ###### out of Chara, lucic , marchand .... I would really like Scott off the team. The whole Lucic, Miller thing really made Darcy do some stupid things.
hockeyhound Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 It appears that the mob that gathered to do away with Frankenstein has materialized here in the 21st century. Get the pitch forks, shovels, torches; we are going to get'm. Why the outrage against John Scott who is a first time offender, and who has no history of being dirty despite playing a number of years in the NHL. If John Scott was a goon and a thug, don't you think that he would have demonstrated that by now? I am glad that we have acquired John Scott because he truly keeps teams that consistently practice thuggery e.g. Boston Bruins from exercising their craft. I thought Chara's hit on Max Pacioretty, and Lucic's hit on Miller were far worse than anything John Scott has ever done; however, the NHL did nothing to Boston's goons on those two occasions. Remember, Canadians were asking that Chara be charged with a crime. I'm sure the NHL will never admit it, but the constant attention paid to the numerous hits and suspensions, are great for ratings and it causes people to talk about the NHL. Self righteous people like Milbury and company are closet hypocrites that are there to entertain on reality T.V. The NHL is into making money, and to draw as many people to the sport as possible. The NHL is advertised as a gladiator sport, and its players are many times cast as soldiers going into the theater of war. Rivalry night :w00t: ; really, they played Lucic's goon hit on Miller over and over because advertisers know people love violent displays, and You Tube videos. Can you say, exploitation? The Colosseum gladiator sports of old have been tamed; however, the spectators that attend still fill the seats, and their appetite for the outrageous will not be satisfied, people will always want more. People have always ran to the scene of an accident like fly's on Sh-t, and the rubberneckers that clog up traffic to see what is going on are often the same people taking holy-er than thou positions. Oh, I forgot, you showed up or slowed to look at the scene because you wanted to help. We are all hypocrites in some way or another. Hey Milbury and company, He who is without sin cast the first stone. Let's Go Sabres! I probably posted this in the wrong section; sorry.
pi2000 Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 they're changing the culture, one illegal hit at a time.
Weave Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 Buried amongst the weird text colors in hockeyhound's post is an excellent point. NBCSN played up the Miller - Lucic incident big time. Made it a cornerpiece of the whole pre-game lead up. Bunch o fecking hypocrites to be lambasting the Sabres for the incident in that game. Bunch o hypocrites.
