That Aud Smell Posted October 29, 2013 Report Posted October 29, 2013 The thing with Scott was 4-fold <snip> Aaaaannnnnndd scene.
TrueBlueGED Posted October 29, 2013 Report Posted October 29, 2013 And we have more concussions today than ever. I guess they are going to have to put that red line back in. More diagnosed concussions is not the same thing as more concussions. Much like a suspendable hit was clean 10 years ago, a concussion was just getting your bell rung.
Campy Posted October 29, 2013 Report Posted October 29, 2013 The thing with Scott was 4-fold 1)It was in neutral ice towards the Bruins zone 2)Scott left his defensive responsibility and went across the entire rink to hit Eriksson from the periphery. That's a charge, and you almost never see hits like that. Head-on, sure. As the puck carrier is entering the offensive zone, sure. 3)Eriksson is an upper level player and Scott has zero offensive prowess. Eriksson has scored more goals in 37 seconds than Scott has in his career. 4)The national media went with it because of the brilliant foreshadowing pre-game. Like Milburry or not, he called it ahead of time, and on cue, Scott does something. If you watch enough hockey...that hit just "felt" wrong. People talk of Stevens and Peca....but Stevens would do that trending towards the defensive zone on an attacker most of the time. Peca had many neutral zone hits, but they were usually head on and within the natural flow of the play. Scott just peels off his man...goes cross ice at a 20 degree angle....and goes up to the head. All this makes it worse. I didn't think Kaleta deserved a big penalty for his actions. Scott just looked like a pure goon headhunter. It wasn't a hockey play. It started with a charge. After trying to get Kessel, now this....I've about lost all respect for the guy. Maybe it's changed since I played all those years ago... Charging has less to do with the distance travelled than it does with moving your feet (versus coasting) into a check, does it not?
SwampD Posted October 29, 2013 Report Posted October 29, 2013 More diagnosed concussions is not the same thing as more concussions. Much like a suspendable hit was clean 10 years ago, a concussion was just getting your bell rung. That is true, but more diagnosed concussions could also mean just that, more concussions. Other than the in-game evaluations, has the procedure for determining concussions changed all that much, or are they just catching them before the game is over now? I really don't know.

I don't know a lot about the procedures the NHL uses, but I'm quite certain the medical science of diagnosis and what is/isn't a concussion has come a long way.
IKnowPhysics Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 Great Read, hits the nail on the head (no pun intended): http://sabreshockeyc...pocrisy-league/ Dead on.
Stoner Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 Dead on. I made it to the part about Milbury forfeiting his right to offer opinions in the future when he beats someone with a shoe, or something.
IKnowPhysics Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 I made it to the part about Milbury forfeiting his right to offer opinions in the future when he beats someone with a shoe, or something. Not the most important point in the article, but it's indicting enough of Milbury's character.
deluca67 Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 He also knows Zack Kassian is talented and not dirty. So there's that. Please quote the post where I said Kassian wasn't "dirty." We're arguing whether or not it was a shoulder or elbow? I was at that game and even full speed it was his shoulder that clips his head not an elbow. That Buffalo News pic is after the fact. So, when you're "at the game" you don't follow the play? You were focusing on Scott behind the play?
IKnowPhysics Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 Wasn't that far behind the play. I'd watch the hit I saw coming a mile away when a player dumps the puck in.
darksabre Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 Please quote the post where I said Kassian wasn't "dirty." I'm not going to dig up every post where you think Kassian is a real hockey player. Liking Kassian but not liking Scott makes you a massive hypocrite, because both contribute pretty much nothing of value to the game of hockey.

You continue to prove you are unable to follow a simple conversation. Being able to differentiate the John Scotts of the league and those actual hockey players who play on the edge, and sometimes cross it, doesn't make me a hypocrite.

Kassian isn't an actual hockey player. That's where the definition falls apart. At this point he's Cody McCormick at best.

darksabre Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 You're so cute when you get flustered. Just speaking the truth. He'll be out of the NHL in 5 years once the Canucks are done with him.

LGR4GM Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 Who is better Kassian or Hodgson? I am curious to see where ppl are on this.
shrader Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 Has the league ever left a player in limbo as long as they have with Scott? Whether the hit was illegal or not, nobody should have to wait this long for his hearing.

He's been suspended for what, 2 games now? And no hearing at all. I can't imagine that was part of the CBA.

shrader Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 They've certainly never left an NHL hockey player in limbo this long. I can actually see people using that as an actual argument against Scott. He's just as much a member of the NHLPA as anyone else is though, so he should be treated just like anyone else. I can't remember anything taking longer than maybe three days with these Shanahan video explanations. Sometimes they can claim that the weekend got in the way, but even with that, we're already 3 days deep into a new week.

He hasn't objected to the timing of the hearing either. I think we may see him appeal this all way if he gets whacked hard. He has no discipline history.
