Every year in every sport, the draft never plays out as assumed. Don't be so sure Tim Murray isn't the one throwing the curve ball. I think he'd take Bennett at #1, but if we pick 2nd and Bennett is gone, he may not have the other Sam in mind...

In all honesty I see Murray's board looking like this

Bennett

Draisaitl

Ekblad

Reinhart

Dal Colle

I could be wrong but that is just the impression I get from him.

I honestly think that it's coming down to overthinking on Reinhart. I still see nothing that says he's not the best forward in the draft.

He's not as flashy or physical as Bennett, but he looks smarter and is much more of a leader. Bennett is a supporter.

And, while I'm normally against making safe picks all the time, Reinhart and Dal Colle are the only "safe" forwards in this draft.

The Edmonton press thinks Murray wants Draisaitl if he can't get Bennett. I think the Oilers want Draisaitl as well, even though their fans will surely want Ekblad.

We gun get a good player.

That's what I like most about finishing last. No waiting to see if a good guy falls to us, no praying for lottery miracles. There's two really good forwards and we're at pick 2, unless we're at pick 1.

This is my celebration post.

Maybe we can get him to pull an Eli Manning and refuse to play anywhere other than Buffalo.

Eli only refused to play in San Diego. He didn't force his way to New York exclusively.

That is exactly what im expecting, TM is supposed to have draft vision, so I expect him to take Bennet over Reinhart.

I agree. I think Edmonton at 3rd will take Draisaitl even if Ekblad is still there. They need size up front worse than the NYI needed to buyout Dipeitro.

I personally agree with the ISS rankings except Jake VIrtanen I feel should be a smidge higher.

I've decided today that even if the worst case scenario of a team coming up and leap-frogging the Sabres and Islanders tonight really isn't that bad. The Sabres will still have at least one of the Sams and a choice between Virtanen, Perlini or Ritchie - power forwards with great shots and could thrive with a top centre.

After watching the Petes/Gens series and even a bit of the Kingston/Petes series I don't want Ritchie. He takes a ton of really dumb penalties. He reminds me alot of Kassian which some here may really want. To me he plays more closely to actual Zach Kassian than the legend of Zach Kassian. Was that the term we used for him? It's been a couple of years.....

Coming in at 140th is none other than #34, Hunter Smith. Since being traded to the Generals last season by the Windsor Spitfires, Hunter has shown nothing but determination to make him noticed around the league. Hunter is willing to stick up for his teammates on a game by game basis but can also put the puck in the back of the net. In 40 games this season, Smith has 11 goals and 16 assists for 27 points to go along with his 66 penalty minutes.

Being from Oshawa I watch him a ton. I love his size and he's great in front of the net on the PP but....the kid can not skate. I'm serious. Like brutal skating. If you can get a stream of the OHL Eastern Conference finals watch it; it begins Friday. I love his heart but not sure how he will translate with his foot ummmm 'speed'.

I need to watch him some. I've seen a few Oshawa games but I focused on Dal Colle. Thanks for the update, I am firmly against anyone who can't skate... it has been something that has marred some good players.

Ross Maclean, from ISS on Toronto drafting at 8th or 1st.

also of note at the 12:50 mark they ask about giving up the Islander pick this year or next.

To add to this, Maclean was not high on Bennett or Nylander in regards to their overall game, specifically mentioned d zone issues.
