Robviously Posted October 20, 2013 Report Posted October 20, 2013 Martin Biron @martybiron433m After thinking about it it with my family, I've decided to retire as a player and move on to a new chapter. Thank you all for your support. The Sabres should be drawing up a contract to get him as a broadcaster right now.
IKnowPhysics Posted October 20, 2013 Report Posted October 20, 2013 Congratulations to Marty on what has been a very enjoyable career to watch. From twitter, it's easy to see that he and his family live and thrive in East Aurora, and I not only welcome him back to WNY for his retirement, I encourage him to remain supportive of the community and active with Sabres alumni. If it's his wish, and I truly hope it is, to start a broadcasting career, I very much look forward to several years of it. His son Jacob interviews him. He stops by NHL Live because he happened to be shopping at the NHL Store. Hilarious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-VtxIXDur0
26CornerBlitz Posted October 20, 2013 Report Posted October 20, 2013 Congrats to Marty for a great career and here's to successful post NHL endeavors. :clapping:
JJFIVEOH Posted October 20, 2013 Report Posted October 20, 2013 He is a class act. Did anybody ever find out what the 'personal issue' was when he took some time off a couple of weeks ago, and if it has anything to do with his retirement?
26CornerBlitz Posted October 20, 2013 Report Posted October 20, 2013 Hear, Hear! @Proteautype Happy retirement to goalie and soon-to-be TV & radio star Martin Biron. If there were a Stanley Cup for class, his name would be on it.

If there were a Stanley Cup for class, his name would be on it. Agreed. Also hopefully that. From the other thread: @SabresProspects Awesome. All should tune in. RT @76_AndrewPeters: Marty Biron will join @kevsylvester and myself on Tuesday for Hockey Hotline on @WGR550 edit: And oh yeah, the translation for the non-twatters: Peters says Biron will join them on the Sabres Hockey Hotline broadcast Tuesday morning.

So, does anybody think Petey sees the writing on the wall?
Robviously Posted October 20, 2013 Author Report Posted October 20, 2013 So, does anybody think Petey sees the writing on the wall? Not sure they'd replace Andrew Peters so soon, but if Roby is retiring at the end of this season, I think Marty could fit in perfectly there.
wonderbread Posted October 20, 2013 Report Posted October 20, 2013 So, does anybody think Petey sees the writing on the wall? Goons don't have a place in this sport...err the radio booth anymore.
chileanseabass Posted October 20, 2013 Report Posted October 20, 2013 Not sure they'd replace Andrew Peters so soon, but if Roby is retiring at the end of this season, I think Marty could fit in perfectly there. That's why they hired Brad May, right?
Robviously Posted October 20, 2013 Author Report Posted October 20, 2013 That's why they hired Brad May, right? Oh crud, I forgot about that. Well, they can figure something out with Marty. Maybe have him do Schoop and the Bulldog for an hour every game day to ease him into broadcasting.
Weave Posted October 20, 2013 Report Posted October 20, 2013 Class act all the way. And entertaining as hell. I couldn't help but root for that guy, even when he was wearing orange and black.
chileanseabass Posted October 20, 2013 Report Posted October 20, 2013 As long as he stays involved in the Buffalo hockey scene we'll all benefit.
LTS Posted October 20, 2013 Report Posted October 20, 2013 Seriously.. think of the producers and directors will you? Hiring Biron to do anything on the radio or TV would be a complete disaster. Advertising revenues would plummet... all because he wouldn't stop talking! He should do play by play. I bet he could call two games at once. Truthfully, he's an awesome guy with a great attitude and did some great things in his career. All the best to him...
sabills Posted October 21, 2013 Report Posted October 21, 2013 Oh crud, I forgot about that. Well, they can figure something out with Marty. Maybe have him do Schoop and the Bulldog for an hour every game day to ease him into broadcasting. Move Ray up to the booth and put marty between the benches.
PromoTheRobot Posted October 21, 2013 Report Posted October 21, 2013 Maybe have him do Schoop and the Bulldog for an hour every game day to ease him into broadcasting. Oh, god no!
shrader Posted October 21, 2013 Report Posted October 21, 2013 I need to go dig up my old Biron jersey from my storage bins.
darksabre Posted October 21, 2013 Report Posted October 21, 2013 I need to go dig up my old Biron jersey from my storage bins. I've been looking for one for a long time. Someday....
Rico7 Posted October 21, 2013 Report Posted October 21, 2013 One of the more entertaining guys in hockey in recent memory. The sport could use more like him. Good luck Marty!
kishoph Posted October 21, 2013 Report Posted October 21, 2013 I always hoped that Marty would return to the Sabres. Easily one of my favorite athletes, of any sport. Biron is and has always been a class act. Good luck in all you do Martin Biron. IMO, Biron would make a great color guy for the Sabres broadcasts.
LGR4GM Posted October 21, 2013 Report Posted October 21, 2013 MARTY NOOOOO!!!! I still remember him fighting Ray Emery with a big ole smile on his face. I hope he still lives in Amherst and comes back to the area. That is one dude I would love added to the broadcast or maybe the coaching team... he is just one of those guys that everyone loves and gravitates towards.
shrader Posted October 21, 2013 Report Posted October 21, 2013 I've been looking for one for a long time. Someday.... I've got the old red third jersey. I think it is a must to wear it later today. Anyway, back when we were about to move him, I always told myself that I would buy his jersey no matter where he went. He proved me wrong.
