JJFIVEOH Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 Wouldn't that make the repetitive complaining about other's complaints even more pathetic. Your'e like the guy who goes on to a message board to complain how lame message boards are. If you like, I could start a Drew Stafford thread you'll likely enjoy. Trust me, y'all have been in the lead by a large margin since 5:00 of the 1st period.
K-9 Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 People jut don't get it. Just because you know the team is going to be bad doesn't mean you have to like it and not be frustrated by another year under Regier where this franchise is going nowhere. Just because we can agree a rebuild is necessary doesn't mean we can't be pissed that a rebuild is necessary. How is it possible to be pissed and open to the idea that there are good things to look forward to in the rebuild? GO SABRES!!!
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 How is it possible to be pissed and open to the idea that there are good things to look forward to in the rebuild? GO SABRES!!! You have a girlfriend who is an alcoholic and gets violent when she drinks. It's Saturday night, she's crocked, you get into a fight, and she lights the curtains in your house on fire. By the time the fire department gets there, half the house is in flames. Should you repair it or just scrap it and start fresh? OK...it probably makes sense to start from scratch. So what do you do? You tell your girlfriend to pick out the design of the new house and you give her the credit card to order all the furnishings. This is pretty much the state of the Sabres. While some of the rational members of the family have tried an intervention with the guy to dump her crazy a$$, she actually is being trusted more, and rewarded for drunkenly burning the place down. Not only that, instead of bringing in the right contractors, she's got her brother's concrete company pouring the foundation, and a bunch of friends from the club she knows from bartending, putting up the 2x4's.....and guess what.....early inspections aren't looking too kosher. So there you have it in a nutshell. We are forced to watch our dysfunctional family member continue to dig their own grave. And you know when he hits rock bottom, he's going to ask you for cash and to stay at your place..."just for a few weeks". Get Your Tickets Now!!!

So what if they can't actually prove that the girlfriend started the house on fire; while at the same time nobody knew of her alcoholic tendencies becasue her last boyfriend had a lock on the liquor cabinet? I'd start from scratch, but would be sure to keep the safe with all my valuables in it. In the meantime, all of his friends are high on crack and are sitting on the front lawn screaming that he needs to mow his lawn but are too high to realize it's covered in two feet of snow.
Iron Crotch Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 Lou Lamoriello (Devils) and Jim Rutherford (Hurricanes) are the only longer tenured GMs than Darcy. And, both of them have Cups, of course.

I have been on these boards for quite some time, and know how most posters feel about your view of the Sabres organization. While I can't say I agree with everything you say, most of the time you are calling a spade a spade imo. 15 years ago I would have thought you were crazy, but after seeing what I've saw over the last 25+ years of being a Sabres fan, one realizes that you must watch with your eyes, and not your ears.

I'll go off the board and take nice, but irrelevant metaphors for 100, Jack. Again, how is one readily able to see the positives in anything if they are so pissed off all the time? How can one's total hatred for Darcy allow for seeing and appreciating the incremental improvement in the young players he's assembled for this particular team? Did anyone have the same level of animosity during '02/'03 and the first half of '03/'04 and still be able to see the potential of that squad? I doubt it. GO SABRES!!!

I didn't see the potential then because I didn't realize the league was going to call 28 penalties a night for putting a pinkie finger on a guy's shoulder, pretty much turning the face of the game the past 50 years, 180 degrees....and making soft, small, fast players, more valuable than guys that could actually play the game of hockey when it counts. If the post lockout rules were in effect for the history of the NHL, guys like Scott Stevens and Denis Potvin would have been 2nd pairing on a 10th place team.

Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 I was actually hoping he'd address the first part of your post. What incremental improvement in young players should we be excited about at this point? The fact that he handed out $36 million to Myers...who has REGRESSED and is an absolute dumpster fire to the point he has a full-time shrink on retainer and they brought in an over the hill 7th D-man at $3 million+ who is already hurt 2 games into the season to try and salvage any little bit of potential left? Or should we be doing cartwheels for Hodgson? Newsflash! He's signed for 6 years now at $4 million+ as your #1 center. Should we give the kid a gold star now every time he gets out of a game without being a minus player? Kudos to Darcy for making a seemingly advantageous trade. You OWN him now, and not at an entry level or Bridge deal like Nadri and Stephan. Pysyk? Ok...he's looking solid. Nice job kid. Oh by the way...Stafford is on your first line making $4 million and Lieno is back on IR making another $4 million. Girgensons? Great! The one player brought in the past few years I actually was excited about. He's been your best player up front so far. He was drafted as a center and is playing wing, but hey...we have Tyler Ennis to play center. Grigerenko? SO you mismanage not only him, the player, but his eligibility and contract as well. Color me appreciative..... Who am I missing? Armia, who is injured and yet to play an NHL game....McNabb, who looked great 3 years ago for a few weeks...Foligno who looked great for a few weeks as well but has seemingly regressed to the Sabres Mean.......Ristolainen? I was told he'd be a physical force. The kid isn't lacking confidence in his offense, but the "hardest" thing about his defense is the flatulence from his Pickled Herring the nearest scoring opposition forward has to endure from 6 feet away.... For every step forward a young guy takes, the franchise takes 2 steps back through acquisitions of soft or overpriced vets, handing out bad contracts to the actual talented young players, and the stagnant, unimaginative, and repulsively patient modus operandi of the General Manager. Please........I am so sorry for not enjoying the random nuggets of lobster that is floating in my Sh!t Stew!!!!!
That Aud Smell Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 Not sure where else this belongs. This thread is as good a spot as any. I've heard Rolston preaching about how, in this league, it's all about your top-6 players playing at an elite level. That is a principle that's been kicked around here. That you succeed in the league by having really, really good (great) top-6 guys (and, yes, a very good first D pairing), and everything else can fall into place around that (e.g., the Blackhawks). We are super feckin' far away from having that in place. Like, light years. And there's a good chance that we don't yet have the players in the system to put us in that position (at least in terms of the forwards). But, you know what? Whatever. I believe that the current state of affairs will accelerate Pegula's separation of Darcy and will accelerate our timeline for securing the elite talent that we need (through some combination of higher draft positions and better/different talent evaluation and roster building). Like Darcy said, #SomeSuffering. I predict that the time is coming - quickly - when Darcy will be made to endure #SomeSuffering as well in the form of a termination.

He didn't break his ribs because he's Leino. Myers, I'm on the fence about. Stafford is a different story. Stafford and Leino most likely aren't part of the future. The rest of the players all have less than 100 games experiencence, most of them wouldn't even be playing yet in a normal situation. In fact almost half the team has less than 100 games experience. How you can determine that any of these guys aren't qualified, not to mention criticize Darcy because of said determinations, is really beyond me. At what age do 99% of NHL'ers get to before they show that they are ready for this league and play up to that level? I've got news for ya, it's not under 21 nor is it with less than 50 games experience.

At a point in time we had Vanek, Pominville, Roy, Connolly, Stafford, MacArthur, Paille.....all 24 and under.....5 of which were already 20 goal scorers......6 of 7 have made between $3 million and $7 million per year.....and you know what? The Buffalo Sabres have had 5 playoff game wins going into the 7th year since then. So....if Hodgson, Ennis, Grigorenko, Girgensons, Foligno, Armia all score 20 goals by next year.....and they go on to make giant cash money.....there is still a great chance that the team has zero success. Now just imagine what happens if they don't?

When he got here, he either could not or would not play center, leaving a glaring hole. On top of that, he can't seem to stay in the lineup, even if this most recent injury is not attributable to conditioning, healthiness, or whatever. I'm about done with him.
IKnowPhysics Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 So I've essentially seen two Sabres teams so far. Team A hussles and forechecks in a 1-2-2, a 2-1-2, or even a 3-2 (crazy). That team close checks, hits, and plays with urgency. That team played the 3rd period against Detroit, most of the Ottawa game, and none of the Pittsburgh game. Team B sits back and waits for the play to come to them, poorly executing a 1-1-3 or a 1-4. That team doesn't take away time or space from opponents. That team plays when, ideologically, the team should be locking down on defense in close games (except they're bad at it). I would think that with a bunch of young guys, Rolston would want to run Team A all day, especially when the offense looks anemic and Team B isn't executing. Maybe it's an instructional thing. You can't (or shouldn't try to) win championships being one dimensional with high octane forecheck, so the teams need to learn how to lock down with a 1-4 trap or a 1-3-1, but at some point, we need to win games to find the game we're good at and build some confidence. Games where we don't have the lead don't call for the opportunity to learn how to close out games. The ball's in Rolston's court, let's see where we go.

How many years of juiors/minors did they have under their belts before they came up? Were they the key components to a team, or were there already pieces in place when they got here? You're comparing apples to oranges. 2) 20 goals today is an accomplishment. NHL'ers don't score at the rate they did when these guys made their debuts. 3) Not sure you can ask me where the progress is when (according to many) this is the first year of a major rebuild, 3 games into the season with almost half the team under 100 games experience. That's just ludicrous. Yes, we can all imagine. The ONLY thing we can do right now is imagine. The problem is, there is a large group on here that has already made up there minds simply because of their total disdain for Darcy; making us all miserable in the process.
