wjag Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 That was a tough one to watch. But I for one am glad the Sabres are back on the ice. They'll get better. There are just going to be some brutal games to watch, like last night.
TrueBlueGED Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 Ruff was here for almost 2 full decades and put 5 of the first 6 nails in the coffin. I want to like Rolston, but after 3 games I'm getting nervous he may be a product of Sabres University and the reason this team perked up last year was just a combo of the jammers getting rid of Lindy, and Rolston winging it and having a bit of the Bernier/Foligno/McNabb effect..... Or maybe the coach really is basically irrelevant.
inkman Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 I'm starting miss lindy ruff as coach, atleast he looked mean and had some fire in him. Right now you can put a corpse with glasses on the bench and there would be no difference. Season at Bernie's
Stoner Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 Season at Bernie's Did you stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night? That was good. Rebuild? The new kids are Girgensons (who has 50% of the goals), Ristolainen, and Larsson. Everyone else is a vet or was here last year. Thank you. Were Leopold, Hecht, Regehr, Gerbe, Sekera and Pominville so critical to this franchise? This is still the team Darcy built the first time.

CallawaySabres Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 Well, it only took 3 games into the season for me to choose not to watch. That beats the old record by about 30. I understand a rebuild is going on but with Miller and Vanek soon to be gone, let's face it - this rebuild stars Next year. This really is going to suck.....
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 Well, it only took 3 games into the season for me to choose not to watch. That beats the old record by about 30. I understand a rebuild is going on but with Miller and Vanek soon to be gone, let's face it - this rebuild stars Next year. This really is going to suck..... This is part of the problem. I think almost everyone was on board last year going into the trade deadline when there was talk of an ACTUAL rebuild. You pretty much figured Miller and Vanek would be gone then, or at the draft at worst. But here we are again....doing things the Darcy way. How many seasons have we wasted by waiting....waiting....waiting....so he can get an extra 2nd round pick? Oh...he may win a trade, but in the months leading up to it, a rudderless team goes into the crapper, a community loses hope, and we start looking for excuses to keep watching this team because we have always done it out of habit. We are only 3 games into the season, yet have to play at a 97 point pace the rest of the way just to make the playoffs. (Yeah I know...just sayin).
bcsaberks Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 My nonplussiness is due, as Deluca said, to the eternal fan hope dying out just 4 days into the season. After the preseason, with an improved Meyers and Hodgson + Vanek producing, then maybe a surprise or two (ennis, stafford, girgs, leino) I was optimistic. They looked competitive for the Ottawa game, but the Pit and Det games were embarrassing. Still 10000x times better than NFL, and 3 nights per week through the dark of winter, count me in for 79 more.

As I said in that GDT, I can get on board with that this year. But if the losses are going to be like the other two, this is gonna be a long year.

You will win 20 games and lose 20 games no matter what you do. It's what you do with the other 42 that matters. I peg these guys for 30 wins.
darksabre Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 I think it's time to take a break. This place has become a broken record and it's only going to get worse. I agree. The doom and gloom is just too pathetic.
DR HOLLIDAY Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 This is the quote of the day and exactly what i am thinking. We need a William Wallace like motivator on the bench not a corpse with glasses. We need a coach who is able to tell the player to run their heads through the glass and they are doing it with pleasure. I quote deluca67 again: I think we need a coach that is a teacher right now, and someone that can provide hope during these dark times. We need BATMAN!!!!
Robviously Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 I think we need a coach that is a teacher right now, and someone that can provide hope during these dark times. We need BATMAN!!!! Rolston isn't the coach we need, he's the one we deserve right now. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector, a dark knight.
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 I agree. The doom and gloom is just too pathetic. If they really are THIS bad, don't worry. It will be crickets by January. Nobody has the energy to bitch that much...even me. I'm very disappointed in what were some interesting wildcards. The whole "pray Myers finally has his rebound season after 4 years". That looks like a negative. The guy has banked $18 million cash in a little over a year and people get excited if he can actually get a puck out of the zone that he had control of to begin with...let alone win a physical battle and gain possession from someone. Ristolainen......he's got a body, his offensive skills look interesting, but I'm wondering when he will make us "harder to play against".

Wyldnwoody44 Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 I'm gonna blame it on the WGR days of Thunder, they have forced team storm cloud out of all of us early

Myers has been the only consistent element of this team besides our goaltenders, in that he is absolutely abysmal night in and night out and costs us about a goal or more per night because of his weak physical presence and terrible fundamental play in his own end. I just want to know when enough is enough, he just looks like a candidate to be traded for greener pastures...
dudacek Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 It is not whining to point out how bad our offence has looked over the first three. I am hopeful that Foligno or Girgensons can add some jam to Hodgson/Vanek and that reuniting Stafford and Ennis can help both of those players. Like it or not, those last four are the only players we have with any kind of track record of offence on this team. If they aren't scoring no one will. And so far they have been inept in the offensive zone. McBain is a terrible partner for him.

I dont know about all that, I like the kid but every single game I keep thinking to myself is this the same kid from three years ago? It is almost like he regresses every year. I like him, I really do. However, great teams dont accept the type of performance he is putting out, especially with all the rookies around him looking up to him as a role model.
waldo Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 The only way for me to buy into this entire rebuild deal is if Vanek, Miller, Stafford, and REGIER are gone by xmas. We are going to suck regardless so lets truly blow this thing up. I, for one, am happy you were not the president during the cold war..
MILFHUNTER#518 Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 I am happy you were not the president during the cold war LOL too funny!
waldo Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 Remember when everybody thought the best solution was to get rid of the 'core'? lol..+! Never seen a fan base that wants to watch division 2 hockey as bad as this one ..lol
Iron Crotch Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 I'm kind of glad I missed these last two games. Two goals over 3 games is obviously abysmal. And, I'm sure we will lead the league in shots against as well. Personally I'm not a fan of the "total rebuild" model where you play a team of kids who get shelled for a few years before developing. I'm a believer that you can better develop youth by surrounding them with at least a few quality veterans. ...But unfortunately we're petty short in the "quality veteran" category. ;) BTW - amid the mess of the first two games, Pysyk and The Hoff are quietly +2. That's a solid pairing.

dudacek Posted October 6, 2013 Report Posted October 6, 2013 I see a future on the back line. We've only allowed two a game against three of the league's more dangerous offences Pysyk has been a real bright spot. Risto and Pysyk are only going to get better. Nikita, McCabe and McNabb are coming.
