LGR4GM Posted October 3, 2013 Report Posted October 3, 2013 (edited) Mike Robitalle is retiring. Sounds like at the end of the season. Edited October 3, 2013 by LGR4GM Quote
LGR4GM Posted October 3, 2013 Author Report Posted October 3, 2013 Buffalo Sabres @BuffaloSabres Veteran broadcaster Mike Robitaille announces on @SabresHotline he will retire following the 2013-14 season. Buffalo Sabres @BuffaloSabres Robitaille began his #Sabres broadcasting career in 1980 when he was hired to be a color commentator and analyst. I will honestly say I will miss his commentary and his ability to say flatly the team played like garbage. I also will miss his passion after games. Quote
26CornerBlitz Posted October 3, 2013 Report Posted October 3, 2013 @SabresPR Roby: “I’ve tried to give as much to the game of hockey as I have taken from it through the years.” Quote
Claude_Verret Posted October 3, 2013 Report Posted October 3, 2013 Go out on your own terms Mike. Let's hear them all this year...hotter than a dog's breath, mixed up like a hounds breakfast, tougher than chinese arithmetic, seen more meat on a butcher's apron, even knock 'em into queersville! LGR4GM Posted October 3, 2013 Author Report Posted October 3, 2013 Brad May will be joining the Broadcast team, part time this year. Full time next year. Quote

Let's hear them all this year...hotter than a dog's breath, mixed up like a hounds breakfast, tougher than chinese arithmetic, seen more meat on a butcher's apron, even knock 'em into queersville! ...and my favorite (which he used often when referring to Rob Ray scoring a goal), "Even a blind pig finds an acorn now and then." I will miss Roby. Quote

Weave Posted October 3, 2013 Report Posted October 3, 2013 May was always a fav of mine. Glad he's back. Quote
billsrcursed Posted October 3, 2013 Report Posted October 3, 2013 OK, got 2 out of 3. I know he's had his issues, but I'd still love it if Matt made his way on somehow. Can't help it, I love these guys. Quote

I hope May is allowed to fulfill Roby's role of Presenting a Sliver of Objectivity. I have a feeling he will — and maybe made it a condition of employment. Enough homers already. Quote
Jsixspd Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 I will miss Roby! It won't be the same with both him and Rick gone. It's probably just a coincidence that he announced his retirement almost immediately after a crappy Buffalo performance in the season opener. Quote

It's probably just a coincidence that he announced his retirement almost immediately after a crappy Buffalo performance in the season opener. If the "rebuild" (or whatever) takes long enough, there may be more longtime Sabres alums (players and staff) gone before the promised winning of the Cup comes to be. I'll probably be retired and living in South Carolina by then. (6 years from now for anyone keeping score). Quote

Trettioåtta Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 I really liked his analysis of games. Shame he is leaving. But he has had a great career, and has definitely earnt his time off Quote
qwksndmonster Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 Mike Robitaille was still playing hockey?!?! Quote
Doohicksie Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 Brad May has come a long way this year. It was painful to listen to him back in October. He does a creditable job now. Roby's done a good job bringing him along. Quote

biodork Posted February 13, 2014 Report Posted February 13, 2014 Bummer, I like Roby. May should be good as well, but even though he isn't well-suited to the position, I found myself hoping they'd have Marty Biron stepping in, lol. Quote
