Great game by Miller to keep us in it.

What I saw after the first 30 minutes was a team that settled down and made a game out of it against one of the best puck possession teams in the world, and at home to boot.

Didn't see an ounce of quit, which I admit I was expecting after the two goals 36 seconds apart.

Lost the game because of an anemic power play and still, a bit of luck and it's a tie game late.

Could have been much worse.

GO SABRES!!!

Here is the thing. This team didn't quit. They played hard all game long. Were they good? Not really. But then again they played one of the most experienced teams in the league. They played with some heart and you can see glimpses of the talent. Good first game with all things considered. Ryan Miller... like a rock.

Okay those ###### just called Girgensons... Jergensons... is there a complaint form or number I can call. They are ###### asshats.

Well, that was a sad effort tonight. The Number 1 line did nothing. Stafford starts out the season -2! Myers -1! Rolston needs to review that statistic with both those players carefully

I thought the effort was just fine, it was the ability that was really lacking. But lets keep blaming poor passing and bad shooting on the coach or the system. It's the ###### players, they ######in suck.

Well that was Step 1.

Step 2 is take tonights game and go into the next one with the plan to improve your game.

Game wasn't good. I don't wanna put any players out here because you win as a team and you lose as a team. We knew games like this would (and will) happen.

Are you people serious?

Maybe you should read my post from the second page of the thread. I'll sum it up for you. This team is bad, like all time record setting bad. You need to prepare yourself for this. Anything else on your part is nativity. They are seriously lackin talent and what little talent they have needs about 5 years to develop. So sit back, buckle in, it's going to be a bumpy ride for the next couple of seasons.

All said and done...they lost to a team that is one of the best in the East. There will be growing pains and it will be painful to watch. I have no illusions for the playoffs. This team will be hard pressed to move into the top 4 in the Atlantic Division. It will be interesting to watch this season unfold.

honestly, I think next year will be worse and then we will start seeing improvement

This is true.

So, I'll be seeking to emphasize as much of the positive developments as the team progresses (and regresses at times). I'm jazzed about the maturation of the kids on this team. I hope we commit full out to the youth movement. Get Larssons and Armia in the mix ASAP.

It's all a tough sell for the Millers, Vaneks, and Otts of the team so thank them for their service and great help in developing the kids, and then get as much as you can for them at the deadline.

But there is certainly no need for any of us to pull our hair out each shift when things suck.

GO SABRES!!!

Cool. If it means they can draft 2 players in the top 3 the next two seasons, they might be great in a few years.

That's actually his name. He has an Americanized spelling and pronunciation. Check out his sister's Twitter......

Eight Sabres with less than 100 games experience, two Sabres making their debut, IN Detroit, first game of the year........ and it was still winable. I'm not sure what the problem is.

I just went outside and no, the sky isn't falling.

Good attitude. I'm looking forward to the suffering so long as I can see some growth.

I think it's sort of like Derek Roy. And in all honesty, the Girginsone may be a feminine thing? Not sure, but I remember liking him so much when they drafted him that the "Lotion" pronunciation for the name itself I recall....not his name specifically.

The coach has to explain to the press that his team is so lacking in actual NHL talent, that they can't score on a 5 on 3?

The Red Wings looked much better whenever the Sabres had any manpower advantage- 5-on-3, 5-on-4, 6-on-5. It was embarrassing actually.

Hopefully I don't need to explain why

Game thoughts:

* I spent the front half of the game thinking all those fears of horrid ineptitude leading to the worst season ever were going to be true.

* I liked the way we battled in the back half; it gives me hope for improvement.

* ###### does Detroit play good hockey; active sticks, clean passes, no time, no space for our guys at all.

* Terrible giveaway by Risto on the Datsyuk goal but I really like how it seemed to piss him off and inspire him to try to raise his level of play; kid looks like a competitor.

* PK looked good; Our power play looks like five strangers who just got off five different red-eyes.

* Grigorenko, Flynn and Girgensons weren't nearly as bad as I feared; excellent speed and hustle by Flynn on the goal.

* I'm not among those who despise the man, but please trade Drew Stafford.

* Tyler Ennis is still tying to do too much by himself. Tyler Myers looked safer than last year, but nowhere near where he needs to be if this team is to sneak into the playoff race.

* It really seems like Hodgson looked much stronger in the defensive zone. In the offensive zone, he and Vanek really didn't show much until the end.

* I like how Rolston had Pysyk and Risto out there in all situations, including the penalty kill at the end. That's how this team is going to improve.

* When are the Sabres actually going to learn to apply pressure with the goalie pulled? Damn that was ugly.
