I want people to hold my feet to the fire on Horvat and Lazar. Those are the 2 I would have taken, all-day. 2 way, center capable, overly skilled and gritty, especially given their size. Both future letter wearers.

If this board is still around in 4 or 5 years and I'm alive, let me have it if these guys aren't the goods.

Not to say Zadorov is a bum, but Horvat and Lazar are Drury/Briere reincarnated.....

And that is what I was trying to get at with my earlier post. Couldn't agree more and this is the glaring weakeness of Darcy.

IF they think Grigs is a bust trade him then. I dont think a 19yr old you can call a bust. Also who the F### within an organization would actually say or admit this? Dear god what is going on down there... its like a dumpster fire at the oil depot, its just waiting to explode.

This is a good time to factor in the part where Matthew Barnaby is a crazy person.

Koelmel promised more announcements to come in the coming weeks. “We’ll have more on the retail tenants, and information on the sports restaurant which we will be operating. Meanwhile, enjoy the Beef on Weck Burger and the Pittsburgh Sandwich [a Primanti Brothers knockoff]. At HarborCenter, the food experience won’t be your ordinary hot dog.”

I just can't for the life of me understand how on God's green Earth Darcy Regier still has a ###### job with this team. It defies all logic. There is absolutely no reason for this guy to still be around. None. I can only think that he must have dirt on Pegula.

I may not know much about hockey, but I know a whole lot about running a business, and there is no business in any industry that I know of that would keep an executive with such a sustained record of failure. It really boggles my mind. Give the fans hope, Terry. We know we'll be bad for a couple of years, but give people hope by bringing in a real GM who knows what the hell he is doing.

I've been saying since the end of the 2006-07 season that Regier needs to go, but I remember the homers on here saying that Regier was great because the Sabres went to 4 Eastern Conference Finals & 1 Stanley Cup and I didn't know what I was talking about. Fast forward 6 years later, the Sabres went to the playoffs only twice in the past 6 years (both first round exits), missed the playoffs 4 times and are now one of the worst teams in the league. And I'm the type that says "I told you so!!!" Looks like I do know what I'm talking about!!

While the Sabres need an overhaul, Regier should not be the guy to do it. While I expect Regier will make good deals for draft picks on player trades, I have no confidence in him that he'll make the correct choices in the draft to build us a winner.

I'm of the mind that I don't want to replace Rolston/Regier with guys that will immediately try to make this team a winner. I don't want to ruin the tank that is already going so well (and next season's tank). And I don't want to rush into things and end up with a few years of suffering followed by a decade more of suffering.

However, I do think that they'll both be fired after this season. You can bring in a GM/coach who don't IMMEDIATELY have the intent of making the team a whole lot better. Sometimes a new GM will come in and take the year to assess what he has. So bringing in a new GM/coach combo this offseason doesn't mean they won't tank next season... The GM will likely realize that the best player available the next two offseasons is Connor McDavid and he'll want to get him.

Not sure. But Jeeeebus.

That takes things to a whole 'nother level. And, if true, reveals an aspect to Darcy's personality -- a really rotten one, a petty one -- that, frankly, I did not think existed.

EDIT: If not rotten and petty, then ... I dunno. Utterly and completely tone-deaf when it comes how to handle people with class and decency.

We don't really know what happened behind closed doors though. Perhaps Pommers was a major ass. Who knows.

Maybe not Pommer, but probably his agent. He might have even asked to be traded? Who knows? But clearly it isn't all 'sunshine and roses' behind the scenes in Sabreland.

Wildly unlikely.

(See what I did there?)

Whatever. The franchise was resolved to go in a different, new direction. I don't buy for a minute that even a request to be traded would warrant a cold shoulder on his return. He was a Sabre born and bred -- sucked diesel fumes in the Roc with Vanek and Miller. Shoot -- he was exposed to waivers in November 2005 before scoring one of the franchise's greatest goals ever in the spring of 2006.

I am fit to be tied.

Hamilton's post appears in a thread that starts with a note about the Bruins' honoring Tim Thomas last night (or recently). PH's tweet reads:

Let' be very clear about this. The Sabres were ready to honor 29. Darcy found out and scrapped it.

Absolutely disgraceful if true. He's not the owner. Damn this organization is mess. Clean house and let's start over.

Honoring Pominville was the ONLY thing to do. Respecting the only players that actually put effort every night and succeed makes you look like a classy organization. Not honoring them makes you look like a classless place that nobody would consider going.

I think Darcy is a work weasel.....but I can't see him doing this. The only reason I can think that he would want to nix it for Pommer is because he knew he was going to trade away anything and everything of veteran value in the near term, and doesn't want to have to salute Pominville/Vanek/Miller/etc....while the team stinks and fans are out for blood as they remember the "good days".

Darcy isn't a classless POS.....he just wants his retirement funded.

Any further details from Hamilton on this?

So what you're basically saying is that he's going to have to serve 4 to 4 1/2?..........

Oh that could be responded to in so many inappropriate ways. Sounds like something Incognito might be accused of...

You know about show horses, right?

One way I could spin the Pominville development if I wanted to be pro-Darcy: maybe Darcy is flexing his muscles, asserting his position as titular head of the hockey department. Terry calls Ted and says, "We're honoring Pommerdoodle, right?" Ted replies, "Sure, boss, whatever you want." Darcy gets wind of it and lays down the law. It really is a hockey department decision. Do you want your players to be distracted by that? Etc.

Actually, that's all an excuse to use the word "titular."
