Fans are not buying tickets

My question is what the Sabres will do for season ticket holders next year? If the rest of the year is as bad as what we are seeing now, they will have to get creative to keep more than half their base from dropping their seats. You know a good number of STH'ers are resellers. They are not going to take a beating two years in a row.

I understand the sentiment but let's not exaggerate, they won't lose even close to half.

Gotta say that its not surprising that tickets are almost being given away

I had no urge to want to buy tickets this year, when the front office is basically telling you they will be bad, why should they expect me to spend my money on a bad product? I was going to buy Centre Ice or Game Centre again this year until they helped me out here by making their games only available to Bell TV customers, Gotta thank Terry and Ted for helping me save a few bucks there! In most years I would have been immediately on the phone switching from cable to Bell Satellite so I could get the games for free but I don't even want to spend the time it would take to do that because this team just does not seem worth the effort.

I bought tickets for the Dallas game that I will be attending, they are a birthday gift for my sister who has never been to a game. I figured if I am going to go see one game, I can attend the game where Lindy comes back (assuming they won't have any tribute for him either on the scoreboard). If the ticket prices continue to stay low though, I may go to a couple more games just because they are cheap and I can see some other teams that might be interesting. I do feel sorry for those that spent a big chunk of money for season tickets (the people who actually attend the games though, not the ones who just buy to resell and make a profit) and were rewarded with this mess.

The free fall continues. Dallas tix are below $15 with thousands unsold on StubHub. It's the Stock Crash of 1929 and Too-Big-To-Fail rolled into one! :w00t: If anything forces the hand of Black/TP it will be this. They can preach patience all they want but they can't afford fans not buying tickets. Tom Webster replied to my post that there is no way the Sabres lose half their season ticket base next year. I disagree. Not only is it possible, it's likely. Thousands of STH'ers are resellers. If there is no market, they go away.

Don't worry, with the Leafs actually doing better, they will make up all of their money lost on other games with the couple of Leafs games. I was looking at the price for the game on the 15th and it actually looks like those tickets are going for almost as much as they are in TO for the game the next night

Do you mean that thousands of STHs are professional or quasi-professional resellers who have no interest in going to the vast majority of games? Or that thousands of STHs are fans who sell off some of their tickets? The latter, I would agree with; the former, I'd need to see some backup.

Unless this affects the primary market, the Sabres won't care, just like music companies and publishers don't care about used CD and book stores. (Hey, what ever happened to CDExchange, anyway?) I think there are a lot of STHs that will wait out the bad times because of the waiting list, unless someone can demonstrate to me that there are thousands of STHs that exist solely to resell.

i'll update as well: i am being fairly bombarded with offers of free tickets. (sorry that they're not ones i can just pass along.) i have a bunch of young kids -- i just don't have the flexibility to occupy multiple autumn weeknights with sabres games. i also don't think my discretionary beer budget could handle the uptick in activity.

i think there are a good number of ordinary STHs who rely on the secondary market to defray their costs. i will be interested to see whether and how this season affects the primary market.

I believe your 2nd point is accurate. My father is still a STH. He still odes it because he can sell some of his seats to make it worth it to him. He is talking about not renewing next season. He's having trouble selling AND the games he's at aren't worth his time or money.

Absolutely. I think a lot of people sell a majority of tickets so they can enjoy a few games free. These people will bolt if they take a loss. On StubHub selling at $18 gets you all of $10. Even if you are in the $25 cheap seats that's a big hit.

I know this isn't thousands, but before the season started and I was dealing with the sting of dropping my mini-pack holder status due to only crappy seats being available, I jumped on stubhub to look for games I was intersted in. I found, for EVERY game of the season, there were 1900 tickets available. Each game had the EXACT same seats. Based on this, I would say there are at least 1900 STH who are pure resellers.

I still read and enjoy SabreSpace as often as I can, but I'm currently going back to school to become a PA. That's a Masters Degree from scratch, at the ripe old age of 44. As you can probably imagine, it doesn't leave much time for anything else. I am still running my business also, but hopefully only for another 6-12 months and then I'll be rid of it. Glad somebody remembered me, lol. I certainly do miss the "good old days" around here...was a lot more fun back then. :(

Man....$12 300's, $18 lower bowl, $33 clubs tonight.

I had to give a favor to someone for Boston tickets at face value last year. Crazy.

Tonight is a choice of suffering for the city.

Sabres @ FNC or Hillary @ UB ???

Can I get some sweet action on the Sabres skating out in pant suits, the real third jersey?

Wow. So good to see you stop in! And yeah, I know what you mean. If we can keep in touch, let's.

On the ticket thing, last I knew, my ticket partner was trying to sell seats (apx 65 cost, and definitely over 100 list) for 30 each today, and wasn't having luck.

(He intended to go to this game. Something came up.)

The brass put themselves in this position. Poor foresight on their part.

I was happy to be a mini-pack holder. The fact that they squeezed me out, while raising prices AND putting out a crappy product...their loss.

I would go to games and spend money on rusty tasting beers, mediocre nachos, and overpriced merch. I am going to 0 games, no matter how cheap the Sabres make their portion of tickets on StubHub.
