hockeyhound Posted July 19, 2013 Report Posted July 19, 2013 Finally we will get to see the Sabres a couple of times on a west coast swing. There were a lot of years that we could not go to see the Sabres play the Kings, Anaheim, San Jose or Phoenix. What are the ramifications of having two more teams in the eastern conference? Moving a team like Detroit out of the west means removing some of the harder competition.

deluca67 Posted July 20, 2013 Report Posted July 20, 2013 How about we are in the "Who Gives A ###### What The Name Of Our Division Is" division? Exactly. It's very likely the names of the divisions will change again before the Sabres will have a chance to hang a banner with the division's name on it. 5 of the last 17 are at home? Nice............ WTF! The opening stretch will do the Sabres no favor either. Detroit Ottawa Pittsburgh Tampa Columbus Chicago That is not how you want to start a season. Detroit is a perennial playoff team, it's not like adding an expansion team that you expect to see at the bottom of the conference. Detroit is a team you expect to see in the mix for a playoff spot at the end of the season.
Andrew Amerk Posted July 20, 2013 Report Posted July 20, 2013 3/8 of the teams are actually near the Atlantic. 3/8 of the teams are in Canada. Would've made just as much sense calling Atlantic Division the Canada Division.

TheMatrix31 Posted July 20, 2013 Report Posted July 20, 2013 Tough start, tough finish. I'll try to catch the games in LA and Anaheim. Thank goodness the freakin' B2Bs have been significantly decreased.
inkman Posted July 20, 2013 Report Posted July 20, 2013 How 'bout the Aye Division? Shiver me timbers, dat be pirate speak
Andrew Amerk Posted July 20, 2013 Report Posted July 20, 2013 How 'bout the Aye Division? Effing COLORS for division names would have been more exciting.
Hoss Posted July 20, 2013 Report Posted July 20, 2013 Paul Hamilton @pham1717 20m I'm so excited that I'll be in Winnipeg on New Year's Eve. Always such a negative Nancy and a winy Wendy

Detroit Ottawa Pittsburgh Tampa Columbus Chicago That is not how you want to start a season. Yup, if they are going to make a run at it, the Sabres will need to take advantage of the middle 50 games.
LaLaLaFontaine Posted July 20, 2013 Report Posted July 20, 2013 The opening stretch will do the Sabres no favor either. Detroit Ottawa Pittsburgh Tampa Columbus Chicago That is not how you want to start a season. . The problem is that there are around 25 teams out there which potentially own us next year. So many possible combinations would look bad for us. I hope we will see some awesome games and that i do not need to be ashamed of my to team too much.

Campy Posted July 20, 2013 Report Posted July 20, 2013 NBC Sports announced Rivalry Wednesday returns this season. It starts October 2nd with Bflo playing their huge rival Detroit. Wait, Detroit?

Would've made just as much sense calling Atlantic Division the Canada Division. Isn't it only 2? Tampa is on the Gulf. Should be called the Great Lakes division. I don't know why, but of all the bad decisions made by the NHL in recent years, these names bug the ###### out of me the most.
Robviously Posted July 20, 2013 Report Posted July 20, 2013 Wow, if not for the Anaheim game the Sabres would have a home and home with the Kings. Probably a first. I just moved to Texas so I'm trying to figure out which games I can get to besides March 4th in Dallas.
Lanny Posted July 20, 2013 Report Posted July 20, 2013 That actually sounds like it would be kinda fun... A reoccurring joke on the morning show is how much Paul hates Winnipeg
Bullwinkle III Posted July 20, 2013 Report Posted July 20, 2013 All of this analysis of the schedule is meaningless to me. The bottom line is this: We will play every team this year and lose most of our games. The End

I believe Tampa is about 2 hours from the Atlantic - much closer than Buff, Det, Tor, Mon, Ott...
LastPommerFan Posted July 21, 2013 Report Posted July 21, 2013 To be fair, Detroit is closer to the Atlantic than South Bend, and Notre Dame is in the ACC.
TrueBlueGED Posted July 21, 2013 Report Posted July 21, 2013 To be fair, Detroit is closer to the Atlantic than South Bend, and Notre Dame is in the ACC. Yea, but that was a money grab. Is the NHL somehow making more money by marketing teams in an Atlantic division?
inkman Posted July 21, 2013 Report Posted July 21, 2013 Yea, but that was a money grab. Is the NHL somehow making more money by marketing teams in an Atlantic division? This would imply the NHL has a clue what it's doing, as usual not even close.

I'm in Austin myself, will have to use a vacation day for this one :/

I think its a Jacobs ass kissing party on the NHL's behalf. he probably put forth the name and Bettman... well let us just say that do to some back room shenanigans, bettman was happy to oblige.
