spndnchz Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 From what I heard of the broadcasts, Armia was getting chances, but not burying them. Hecht part duh.
26CornerBlitz Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 @pham1717 Lieuwen in goal for Buff tonight in the Championship game against Det.Join me & @duffersabres at 7:30 on ESPN1520AM & http://sabres.com
nfreeman Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 Baptiste, Risto, Larsson, Girgensons, Cat, Zadorov, apparently Compher - they really seem like they are trying to deliver on the promise to be tougher to play against. In fact, I see pieces of a team I could enjoy watching. Quick, someone from Team Stormcloud needs to slap me down. (Oh wait, that's what the regular season is for, right?) Anyone else really enjoying the Battle that this kids are putting up? I would say they are a lot tougher to play against than the current Sabres and i hope they all continue to grow. Baptiste has been a nice surprise especially. Hope we win it tonight! Gentlemen: love the optimism, and I too am looking forward to seeing the FNGs this season, but still: there's just not enough to go on here. A few snippets of crappy video shot from the center ice boards doesn't give us any idea of how tough, how fast or how smart these guys can play. And they won this tournament 2 years ago and promptly delivered an atrocious start to the regular season. I need to see a few games -- or at least a few shifts -- before I can deem the new guys ready for prime time. EDIT: Just watched the interview with Kris Baker that someone linked above (thanks for that!). High praise for Girgensohns and Larsson. Kinda psyched about those 2 despite what I just said above.

I agree that it is tough to evaluate what these guys can do at the NHL level and the Sabres are still missing a Number 1 center which imo is a huge problem, making it unlikely the Sabres make the playoffs this year, but I like the fact they have some guys who can put the puck in the net and set up each other is great. If this continues into the preseason, I say scrap what is left of the old corp save OTT and some of the young D and bring them all up and see who develops. The Sabres need high draft pics anyway and are in full rebuild mode so why not.

Yea but when we won 2 years ago we didn't have the depth of talent we have now. This team will suck this year or just squeak in. They are not a contender and I honestly don't care about that right now. I care about instilling a willing attitude in the young kids and letting them mature. So my comments really have nothing to do with Sabres Prospects and prime time this season.
dudacek Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 It's going to take three years before this group can start making any kind of culture change impact. At best, we'll get glimpses of what Larsson, Z and Risto can do this year at the big club level. This year, any improvement is going to have to come from Hodgson, Ennis, Stafford, Foligno, Webber, Leino and Myers, and to a lesser extent Pysyk and Grigorenko.

Fifty Mission Cap Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 So Baptiste has 4G, 3A in 3 games this tournament so far? Sounds like an unexpected bright spot. Anyone been there to watch him/have any better insight?
bunomatic Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 2-cod after two. Blah ! Come on boys.
Derrico Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 So Baptiste has 4G, 3A in 3 games this tournament so far? Sounds like an unexpected bright spot. Anyone been there to watch him/have any better insight? That is a very impressive stat line. Although looking back it might feel like he was a 6th round pick but he was actually a 3rd rounder. We just had 40 draft picks over the first two rounds. Still impressive a start for him. If I recall I remember reading some reports saying how he stood out at the rookie camp.
bunomatic Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 3-1 Detroit with about 9minutes to go.
beerme1 Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 3-1 DET Armia robbed evidently 3-2 The Trainor had the goal
carpandean Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 Hecht part duh. Hecht would have scored a backhander off the goaltender by now.
Robviously Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 Meh 4-2 Crush everyone and then lose the championship game. I'd say these prospects have a great idea of what it means to be a pro athlete in Buffalo.
darksabre Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 Crush everyone and then lose the championship game. I'd say these prospects have a great idea of what it means to be a pro athlete in Buffalo.

Andrew Amerk Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 And to think, if these games had been broadcasted on TV... Who knows what beers, insurances, and cars that I might have been inclined to purchase. Don't dare think for a second that those 3 products are usually pitched together on purpose.
bunomatic Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 Oh well. A good showing by the young guns with several standouts. Despite the negative outcome I'll look at the positives. Excited about Zemgus and his compete level to name one. Many others stood out as well.

Eh, don't (excessivley ;)) sweat it, you'll see those guys soon enough.
nfreeman Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 Here's something I found interesting: Chad Cassidy, new coach of the Amerks and coach of the Sabres' prospects team, said Gauthier-Leduc was the Sabres' best player on the ice in the semifinal game on Sunday. (It's on the WGR audio vault.) Maybe another contestant on the D depth chart?
spndnchz Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 Armia loses the puck with 30 seconds to go and Detroit gets the empty net goal. Hey Joel. Where you goin' with that stick in your hand?
