So it's really not on TV? The NHL Network has too much other good programming to fit this in?

RIGHT!?!?

Another fail by NHL. They have the oppurtunity to expand the sport and show more hockey during the offseason in good markets (Detroit and NY) and they are to busy playing with themselves.

Does anyone care? Did they overlook it? Or are we just finding out about it?

I'm sure people care. And considering how important Grigorenko could be to the team's future, I'm surprised that you don't. I would have liked to see how he performed, and I'm sure the Sabres would have too (hence him being on the roster to begin with).

But given all the pissing and moaning people have done over the third jersey today, I thought you guys would be all over this... sure it's an exhibition tournament, but not knowing the rules to said tournament & losing a player the day before it begins seems like a far bigger embarrassment to me than someone having a different fashion opinion than the rest of us.

Seeing on Twitter that Pysyk also ruled ineligible. Same reason as Grigo.

Maybe it's better Grigs doesn't go, dot want to rekindle all the bust talk that was floating around. I'm still in that camp BTW.

I re-read this several times before I got the missing "n". Then it made sense.

Gotta love a tourney making up rules on the fly

Is that what is happening? Link?

Edit:

Brian Duff was the one who tweeted that Pysyk can't play because he played too many games in the NHL last season. But now we have this:

John Vogl@BuffNewsVogl7m

Mark Pysyk will not play for Sabres in prospects tournament. Team says he is eligible but coaches decided to bring just seven D-men.

So, either the rules say he can't play or the Sabres are only bringing a select few.

This is far more embarrassing than a jersey.

Maybe that's why they leaked it out? You are absolutely right. How did they not know the eligibility rules of a tournament they entered to play? This isn't some U-15 hockey program coming to play at the Webster hockey rinks. This is professional hockey teams and some of the best young talent in the world of hockey. Total bonehead move by the Sabres and these are the same people who are supposedly trying to take the Sabres from the bottom of the East into contenders. Good luck.

I don't know but it is just odd. If you remember the last time they played in this one, other teams were making a stink about the Sabres having a more experienced group. It makes me think some changes were made since then.

Just because the tournament director says to watch out for rules changes which MIGHT have been included in this year's tournament (said rules changes which 'never' actually occur from year to year) when she mails out the packets with the T-shirt order forms, it's pretty unreasonable to expect the manager and coaches to actually read all 6 pages of the tourney rules and policies.

Very few actually continue reading on after the 2nd year in the tourney as it's ALWAYS the same info  after the 2nd page listing which tournament sanctioned hotels have indoor pools and which have reservable rooms for knee hockey. The lucky teams sign on early so they can be at the hotel with the free (read lousy) beer for the parents party / mixer. If you want to be one of those lucky teams, you simply don't have time to read pages 3-6 before placing your deposit. This is not on management nor the coaches, it's on the $%!%!%%#$^ parents that want rooms with balconies overlooking the pool.

I'd have to relisten to what Duffer just said - but it sounded like based on the rules that Grigorenko should have been allowed to play. Pysyk on the other hand would have been ineligible but had gotten an exemption (but the Sabres decided not to send him.)

Over the last month or so, there was enough emphasis and reporting on GR about how Grigo was, in fact, eligible, to make me think that shrader may be on to something.

What he said does make sense.

Which is why I thought the over the top response didn't require the '/sarcasm' at the end. Just having some fun w/ it being the off-season and the issues of the day being far sillier than annoying. (Unlike what we'll likely see this October when an anticipated lack of C's that can play in their own end makes the issues of the day extremely annoying.)

I'm slow today...
