LGR4GM Posted May 5, 2014 Report Posted May 5, 2014 There's no way he stays in North America on that schedule, IMO. I think if he was going to go back he would have done it already. Grigorenko has the very real potential with some hard work and patience to be a fairly solid NHL player but it will take time. Quote
ubkev Posted May 5, 2014 Report Posted May 5, 2014 Cassidy can go. Doesn't impress me at all. At least he didn't get swept again. Quote
dudacek Posted May 5, 2014 Report Posted May 5, 2014 Lost this series when they blew game one. If this basic group is the team for most of next year I'd expect them to dominate. I wonder how many will be Sabres. I also wonder about Cassidy. He didn't get dealt the bet of hands this year. But he is Rolston's boy and with the emphasis the Sabres will be putting on development, I wonder if Timmy will trust him with that task. Quote

etiennep99 Posted May 5, 2014 Report Posted May 5, 2014 (edited) I have a hard time believing in the Sabres great prospect system when they finish dead last and their AHL team sqeaks into the play-offs and loses in the 1st round yet again. If we get a championship team, it will have to be thanks to the 2013, 2014, & 2015 drafts working out for us. Right now all we have are some decent 2nd tier players like Girgensons, Pysyk, Myers, Hodgson, Foligno, & Ennis. And maybe some 3rd/4th tier players like Larsson, Compher, and maybe Deslauriers. Ristolainen, Zadorov, & McCabe with Myers and Pysyk should be a good defensive core, but their forwards are still really weak. Tim Murray is going to need to hit home-runs in the next two drafts. A couple of thoughts. The first is that JT Compher is not a 3rd/4th tier talent. He was projected and still projects to be a very solid 2nd line player. Second not all of our top end offensive forwards were on the Amerks. Nick Baptiste, Hudgson Fasching, Gustav Possler all were absent from the team. Third I think that you are correct and Timmy needs to hit home runs in 2014 and 2015 on high end offensive talents. Realistically we should get 1 first line player in each draft and 2 more players in each draft that can be potential first liners. Should be a very interesting time come June. Quote
pastajoe Posted May 5, 2014 Report Posted May 5, 2014 They could plug in Cunneyworth. I think he's going to be an assistant in Buffalo. Quote
26CornerBlitz Posted May 8, 2014 Report Posted May 8, 2014 (edited) Sabres GM: No decision on Amerks' coach yet Buffalo Sabres general manager Tim Murray isn't ready to say whether Chadd Cassidy is a coaching prospect, but he's quite sure that rookie right winger Joel Armia has a bright future in the organization. Murray said no decision has been made regarding Cassidy's future as Rochester Americans coach. Cassidy, who just completed his first full American Hockey League season behind the Amerks bench, is under contract for next season. However, since he was hired by former Sabres general manager Darcy Regier, there is no guarantee that he will be retained. Edited May 8, 2014 by 26CornerBlitz Quote

Hoss Posted May 28, 2014 Report Posted May 28, 2014 So what does the roster look like going into next season? Centers: Grigorenko, Kea, Sundher, Zigomanis (maybe Adam and/or Larsson) Wingers: Armia, Carenacci, Carrier, Varrone, Schaller, Gillies, Tardif, Roy. Defense: Risto, possibly McCabe, Ruhwedel, Bagnall, Crawford, Gauthier-Leduc, Mckenzie. Goalies: Two of Makarov, Hackett and Lieuwen. Who am I missing? Who on that list won't be around? Quote
inkman Posted May 28, 2014 Report Posted May 28, 2014 Kea and Carrier definitely have my attention. Two big strong kids. Quote
nfreeman Posted May 28, 2014 Report Posted May 28, 2014 Kea and Carrier definitely have my attention. Two big strong kids. I'm hoping for big things from Carrier too. He's the first prospect TM traded for and he's a forward with size who can (hopefully) score. Quote

So if Hackett is a washout and Larsson's ceiling is NHL 4th-liner, that means Zadorov was the only real return for Pommer. And if Nikita isn't ready for the NHL for 2 more seasons, that means the Sabres gave up a good 2-way forward who can score and got nothing for 3.3 seasons, at which point they got a rookie defenseman (who is promising, but still a rookie). Remind me again why it's so great that Darcy "won the trade deadline?" Quote

TrueBlueGED Posted May 28, 2014 Report Posted May 28, 2014 (edited) I think Larsson gets under sold a lot here. Looks like a nice 3rd line player to me. He's unspectacular in every way, but I think there's a lot to like. Edited May 28, 2014 by TrueBluePhD Quote

Hoss Posted May 28, 2014 Report Posted May 28, 2014 (edited) That's his floor, in my view. His floor is an AHL for-lifer. Every prospect's floor is out of the NHL realistically. I would say his ceiling is a third-liner. Edited May 28, 2014 by Tankalicious Quote
