I hit two trails in one trip. The Augusta Canal Trail, and the North Augusta Greeneway Trail. Very pretty, both trails are real nice but completely different from one another. One runs in between the canal and Augusta River (canal system was built just after the Civil War) and is mostly gravel/dirt. The other is a new, nicely paved trail right through some more upscale neighborhoods. Although, I don't think they're too upscale, it is compared to Augusta.

I kind of felt like everyone was losing enthusiasm for my bike ride posts so I took a break.  Went to a meeting (for the bicycle club) tonight.  I rode over and then home afterwards, got in 17 miles.  I've got 4,231 miles so far this year.  I hope to get to 5,000 miles.

Wednesday night was sweet:  I got my first King of the Mountain on Strava.  For those unfamiliar with Strava, you can map out a "segment" and then Strava measures the time each user takes to ride that segment.  If you're faster than everyone else on a segment, you're the King of the Mountain for that segment.  Wednesday night I managed to get the fastest time on a sprint segment- I averaged 23.8 mph for half a mile.

The segments are pretty cool. I created one for laps around the neighborhood that I do all the time. I'm far from a KOTM though. Good luck on 5,000.

I completed my first trail race. It was seven miles (actually think it's a bit more than that), and I finished in the middle of the pack with a 1:21:59 (really glad I put a burst on in the final two seconds; 1:22:00 would have sucked). It was actually the best time I've ever done it in, but I was hoping to break 1:20. I was in a good position to do it but wilted a bit toward the end.

It was a respectable start to my trail running career. I was beaten by most everyone in my age group (50-59), and I'm barely in that group. So that both motivates me and encourages me. (The winner, who's 48, finished in 53 minutes and change.)

I know there's a lot of time to be squeezed out of that course. I had to walk about a mile and a half of it, almost all of that on the two long hills. I need to conquer those hills, but, wow, it's tough. Losing about 15 pounds would probably help.

I've said it before. Trail running is a hoot. This particular course has a bit of everything. Steep road climbs on both gravel and dirt, dramatic descents on narrow footpaths, winding and rolling single-track, shallow stream crossings (with and without footbridges), a huge rock formation where you run between a narrow crevice and over large rocks, mud, ditches, roots, stones, downed trees to hurdle... It really is an ever-changing challenge. Of course it rained, adding to the challenge, but I can't say a cool shower in the middle of it didn't feel good.

I've been riding all along.  My annual mileage total is up to 4,424 miles on the bike.  Looks like I'll make it to 5000, perhaps 5200.

I got out for two rides Sunday, for 14 miles (to Buffalo Bros. to watch the Bills game) and 24 miles on the Sunday night pub crawl.  Saturday I rode my age- 54+ miles.

All three of those rides were on my fixed gear bike.

Fall hits and nobody exercises for 10 days? WTF guys and gals. Get your lard a$$ in gear. :nana:

I've been at the aerial gym 4 nights a week, sometimes for 3 hours, mostly hauling my 120 lb partner around.

I have abs, b!tches. It's pretty neat. Performance in about a month.... I could use some cardio though. Only so many hours in a day...

So you just like to watch, huh?

I was on an all inclusive cruise where I ate and drank until I passed out every night for 8 straight days. I came back and this thread was gone.

That said, I don't post in this thread because I am one of those people that can eat and drink as much as I want and still be the same weight as my high school days. Those struggling to stay fit don't always appreciate my metabolism. I do play competitive volleyball two nights a week, walk the dog a mile plus every night and work to remodel my house on the weekends.

How old are you?  (Just curious.)

28. I know there is still time for the metabolism thing to wear off, but it's not like I sit home and eat cheesey-poofs all night either.

(not that there is anything wrong with that)

Yep.  Beware of your 30s.  That's when it hit me.  I could eat whatever I wanted and I was 200 lb. (6'-2").  Then one day I was 238.  I'd like to get below 200 but I seem to be stuck on 210.  I can only imagine how much worse I'd be if I didn't ride.

I will heed your warning as a 28 yr old 6'3" 185 male. I sure hope you are wrong though :)

Oh he's not wrong. I rode the high metabolism train to late 30's but it does at least catch up with you. At 43 I'm maintaining but between Ironwork and the gym I burn a gazillion calories a day and still need to watch my diet. Seems like I burn 7000 calories a day and take in 3500 and still barely maintain my weight.
