Doohicksie
That's one of the benefits of cycling... at least when it's miserable, you make your own breeze to help with evaporative cooling.

JJFIVEOH
97 degrees with 85% humidity down here is like running in a sauna. Treadmills make a lot of sense in the deep south! I hear ya. I've made a few long trips in Miami. I'll fill my trunk bag with two 32oz bottles of Gatorade and fill them up with water along the way. I'm not exaggerating when I say I've finished off nine of those and never once had to piss. But like Robin said, creating your own wind I don't find myself drenched in sweat. Stoner
We're both in arguably the best shape we've been since we met. She's active, I'm active. But my body image is healthy and hers isn't, and it's 100% mental. It's also 5% those dudes in Target. Man, I wish I had been there. They would have gotten some hardcore Pennsyltucky Justice. (OK, I would have waited until they were out of earshot and then made a snarky comment, something like, "You're the biggest ass in this store." Then I would have run, leaving Jo behind.) ubkev
OK folks. Running, it's for horses. Seriously, running. My kid is running cross country this fall, his practices start next week, and just as a goof, I wanted to see how far I have regressed in the decade since my last triathlon. Well this ! 1 mile in 9 minutes and I'm one f'n foot in the grave! I can't blame anything but my lazy ass. The weather is nice, the route was flat. I just can't run anymore, evidently. I guess I need skates to be fast. And it's going to be very tough to swallow when my kid is better than me at a sport. Ah, Time: The undefeated champion. josie
This stuff never happens when I'm around, so it's not like I can even give anyone a good hollerin' at. Except at paintball, where they're worse when you're around. Of course, when I'm alone, there's a big gun on my hip so ... Sorry for derailing a positive thread. Life's been tough on me lately, very tough, and when I lose control, I go crazy with this. I'm a work in progress. I guess let me be a lesson to you if you ever notice a friend/child acting like this. It's why I'm afraid to have kids- I don't want to pass along my stupid. Thanks for the kind words, I'm trying. I'm very trying ;) Well, back to stuff that makes us sweat. Doubles work is my favorite- I'm usually the strongest one at it despite not being the strongest girl in class. I based the rest of the class on this one- it's pretty much just our feet holding us up. Which to me is miraculous with my ankle. The bottom one- Tanzie and I are similar in size (she's taller), so we could equal out and lean back. Everyone else is a good 20 pounds less than me and it made the move uneven. Doohicksie
I didn't get to ride this week; too busy. I got one in this morning though, 36 miles on the breakfast ride. I always have bad selfie faces

MattPie
That's more than 3 miles I think. Wow. I have one for work (you'll know the one :)) and I'll put on 1000 or so in the course of getting ready in the morning and a few 1000 more just working the day at my desk (getting up for lunch, etc, etc.) Mowing my 48x120 yard (including house) is around 5000. I'm always a bit surprised at the numbers, it seems like too many but I've watched the read-out while moving around and it seems on. My high was 17,000 something, scored on a day when I went on a short walk in the morning (2 miles) and then spent the rest of the day entertaining RosePie and the InLaws around the area. Doohicksie
I've gotten upwards of 30,000 steps in a single day. I wear the pedometer while riding my bike and if I take a longish ride (50+ miles) and maybe do some other stuff during the day (like walk the dog) I can beat 30k. josie
d4rk, some of my friends and I went hiking in Stony Brook yesterday. The weather held, and we got lots of good hiking in, lots of stair climbing. To top it off, we swam in the waterfalls. It was a pretty awesome day. d4rk even broke his 20 year old sandals! We taped them up with my friend's climbing tape- looked like the things were held together with TP by the end. I hope to get more hiking in before summer and fall leave- going to be tough to fit in with all of the weddings marching our way over the next couple months. I've been meaning to try that; I've been walking more since I'm desperate for approval from a little electronic doo-dad, but if the bike counts too I'd rather do that. Let's not give those sandals more credit than is due. They were probably only 15-16 years old. :P Welp, I'm outta the contest. :w00t:
Doohicksie
Welp, I'm outta the contest. Not as long as you're moving. You're ahead of the couch potatoes and the more you move, the higher in the pecking order you get. Bike counts? I've been meaning to try that; I've been walking more since I'm desperate for approval from a little electronic doo-dad, but if the bike counts too I'd rather do that. It helps if you put the pedometer where it sees both the up and down strokes as steps (which is appropriate- it's like counting left and right steps). So.... attach to your shoe, or, if I'm wearing cycling pants, up inside the pants just above the knee.
