26CornerBlitz Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013  The grand experiment is over. I wish him the best elsewhere.
That Aud Smell Posted July 3, 2013 Author Report Posted July 3, 2013 Perhaps a move intended to make room for another forward? Or just a recognition that he wasn't cutting it at the NHL level?
Sabres Fan in NS Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 Per McKenzie, TSN. https://twitter.com/...457415335215104 Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 2m Buyout waivers: Gerbe (BUF) Colaiacovo (DET). ===== BOOM!! I like Gerbe. He has gumshion. I feel bad, but it was only a matter of time before he was off the team.
shrader Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 That one seems like kind of a waste. They're burning up a buy out on a relatively cheap contract with only one year remaining. Unless they plan on being near the cap, they were better off sending him to the AHL.
26CornerBlitz Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 Not a very big Cap savings...they must have really been down on him. http://www.capgeek.com/player/398
spndnchz Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 OMG Darcy is getting WILD and CRAAAAAAAZZZZZYYYY!

Kind of a curious decision when you have 2-3 who could be buyout candidates next year.
Iron Crotch Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 At 5'3, he absolutely needs to be a serious scoring threat... a top-2 line guy... and he just isn't. Good move waiving him. I wish Hefty Smurf the best! Hopefully he will catch on somewhere else.

shrader Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 Regular waivers and a demotion to Roch would have made more sense to me. They save roughly half his cap hit that way and still retain the two buyouts. If nothing else, this is more proof to never trust the words of any GM.
That Aud Smell Posted July 3, 2013 Author Report Posted July 3, 2013 i don't even know what this means: 45] FollowDriving Play @ DrivingPlay FWIW, Gerbe is eligible for the 1/3rd buyout and should not be a compliance buyout https://twitter.com/...460268606984192 is it possible that this is not a compliance buyout?
qwksndmonster Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 Is it a normal buyout or a compliance buyout? What a waste. My mom's gonna freakin' lose it when I tell her. Good luck Gerbe. Thanks for always playing like you meant it.

Still unless we are up against the cap i'm not sure why we are doing this? Just send him to Roch
MattPie Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 They save roughly half his cap hit that way and still retain the two buyouts. If nothing else, this is more proof to never trust the words of any GM. Is this a compliance buyout or a regular buyout? As for the GM, maybe Darcy asked Gerbe what he'd rather do, play in the AHL or get bought out. It means he will count against the cap for two years, rather than not at all. Still unless we are up against the cap i'm not sure why we are doing this? Just send him to Roch Sending him to Roch still counts against the cap in the new CBA.
dudacek Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 Gotta be a regular buyout. Not sure why he wouldn't just be sent to Rochester. No room for the little guy on the new Sabres.
26CornerBlitz Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 Is this a compliance buyout or a regular buyout? As for the GM, maybe Darcy asked Gerbe what he'd rather do, play in the AHL or get bought out. Has to be an RBO. Would be a waste of a CBO with 1 year left for such a small amount.
That Aud Smell Posted July 3, 2013 Author Report Posted July 3, 2013 Gotta be an RBO. (I just learned that term!) Gotta be.

It would count $325K, hardly a back breaker when you have 14mil space. Now it will count at $600K for two years, hence why it was weird
darksabre Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 Maybe Darcy is exposing him to waivers because a team wants him but he couldn't get anyone to trade for him?
