Andrew Amerk Posted July 1, 2013 Report Posted July 1, 2013 I thought my way of saying that was more creative. ;) Maybe McBain will show up to camp looking like Fat Bastard.
superdave Posted July 1, 2013 Report Posted July 1, 2013 Superdave, what happened to your team? They lost almost every game after game 24. McBain at game 26 was plus 14, he ended at zero. Was it entirely the goaltender being injured? Canes were doing okay and the injury bug got our suspect defense with injuries to Pitkanen and Faulk. Then Cam award got hurt and the wheels fell off the wagon. The Canes only had 2 lines capable of scoring and the league figured that out pretty quick. Add that all up, and you are drafting 5th. Jimmy Rutherford has refused to put any real defense on the ice, year after year and there is not much in the system. Wards injury shined the spotlight on just how sorry the defense was. It also didn't help that the power play was just a waste of 2 minutes. If you look at historical stats, 2 things will jump out. The Canes are consistently in the bottom of the league in power play efficiency and at the bottom of the league in shots against.
bills_fan_in_raleigh Posted July 1, 2013 Report Posted July 1, 2013 From the outside looking in, I'd say that at worst, McBain is a one year place holder until one of the drafted D-men get a little seasoning. He's a RFA next summer and will be cheap to re-sign if he works out. At least your organization can see the writing on the wall and committed to the rebuild instead of nibbling around the edges forever. superdave is one of the only canes fans with a hockey IQ. mcBain showed promise but as Dave said always seems to come into season out of shape and having to work his way into condition.

darksabre Posted July 1, 2013 Report Posted July 1, 2013 Maybe McBain will show up to camp looking like Fat Bastard. Is that better or worse than looking like Tyler Myers?
rakish Posted July 1, 2013 Report Posted July 1, 2013 Thanks superdave, now I got a better handle on Carolina.
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Tony DeLoge...District Selectman.... Always fun to see passionate fans come and give some color to what the situation is.
Stoner Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Tony DeLoge...District Selectman.... Always fun to see passionate fans come and give some color to what the situation is. Wait, that's Super Dave Osborne's voice? Of course it is. Huh!
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Wait, that's Super Dave Osborne's voice? Of course it is. Huh! Between Super Dave, Tony DeLoge, and Marty Funhauser on Curb, he should be in the comedy hall-of-fame. More a Rod Langway than Paul Coffey.
Eleven Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 More likely a pre-'06 Soupy w/out the speed. ;) That's not good. Campbell was AWFUL until Ruff taught him how to play defense.
superdave Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Between Super Dave, Tony DeLoge, and Marty Funhauser on Curb, he should be in the comedy hall-of-fame. More a Rod Langway than Paul Coffey. Many around of a "younger generation" don't know Super Dave Osborne. If you are in that group, go to youtube immediately. As for a player coming in out of shape now, there is no excuse. Years ago, players had to sell cars or something during the off season to make ends meet. They also smoked cigarettes during the intermissions at games. Now, they make enough that they should be improving themselves in the off season and not watching SpongeBob and eating corn dogs all summer.
LoveAndWarrener Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Are you the new social media guy for the Sabres? If I were, would I have acknowledged that Darcy might not be the best guy for the job? Save the bloviating for someone who posts more frequently with cheerleading. I am just calling this like I see it. Personally, I'm frustrated that this rebuild is going to take a long time, and this trade may be a win, but it could take a long-ass time for that to be proven. It could also turn out that Sekera turns it up another notch and that Compher does what most prospects do: bust. Its about player Development. The Buffalo Sabres couldn't develop a photo from a insta-matic camera, let alone develop a hockey player. This whole regime couldn't pour urine out of a boot, if the instructions were printed on the bottom. I seriously wonder, what the chances are of any of these draft picks, becoming the next Chris Pronger / Chris Chelios? They might of had a chance, if they were drafted by another team. This is definitely a worrisome part of the picture. All we can hope for is that there was some missing communication/ developmental philosophy between Lindy and Rochester that Rolston might be able to mend. Personally, I feel there is cause for concern.

Andrew Amerk Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Is that better or worse than looking like Tyler Myers? Tyler Myers only looks like his neck threw up. If McBain knew how to throw up, maybe he wouldn't show up to camps out of shape.
shrader Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 wish I could fav this post. Even though he's not the real Superdave. I really wanted to mention that whole ordeal. That was one ridiculously confusing series of posts.

superdave Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 I really wanted to mention that whole ordeal. That was one ridiculously confusing series of posts. That was just some moron trying to stir up trouble. I post as superdave on several boards and he joined here with a similar name to try to stir the pot for a Canes/Sabres game coming up in Raleigh. I joined here just to say it wasn't me and I've lurked a little and chimed in when I thought it was pertinent. As for the trade, it must be a pretty even hockey deal. The opinions are about split with both fan bases. Sekera for McBain straight up is a no brainer, but throw in the draft choice and it's a wash. It makes a lot of sense with the defensemen you guys drafted. Risto was the guy I kept hoping for when there was talk of a deal with the Canes moving down a few spots. Your GM is building for the future and JR is throwing darts to try to win a prize.
LTS Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Is that better or worse than looking like Tyler Myers? I heard they are training together this offseason. So..... That's not good. Campbell was AWFUL until Ruff taught him how to play defense. So are you saying he beat Campbell around the head with a stick or did not? I'm still not clear on that situation. :)
LGR4GM Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 I heard they are training together this offseason. So..... I did hear that Myers was in Buffalo. Does anyone have an update on who is in Buffalo and what training is going on? I know Foligno and Grigorenko were both in Buffalo this past weekend but anyone with an ear to the ground know more?
That Aud Smell Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Your GM is building for the future and JR is throwing darts to try to win a prize. the idea that we could be worse off is a sobering one. don't be a stranger, superdave! So are you saying he beat Campbell around the head with a stick or did not? I'm still not clear on that situation. :) that luke adam clip is the gift the keeps giving.
superdave Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 One other thing that I don't think you guys have considered is that if McBain does anything this year, he is on the last year of his deal and at the least will be a perfect trade deadline rental to get another pick for next year. This is of course if your guys are in rebuild mode and out of the hunt.
