26CornerBlitz Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 Drnkirishone, let it go. There is no point arguing. I see pretty much what you see and I think that another year of Juniors where he can learn at a slower pace and fix the holes in his game would be good. This is one argument not worth having however. People care more about the now than the 3 years from now. People can see for themselves that the guy has played very well at this level and is already among the top 4 on the D corps. At this juncture, there's absolutely no logical reason to send Zadorov back to London when he's shown that he handles the faster NHL pace just fine. You simply let his play dictate your decision without any preconceived notion or bias based on him being an 18 year old.

People care more about the now than the 3 years from now. Can't speak for anyone else, but I am ONLY looking at three years from now. These next couple of years are strictly developmental for every kid on this team. Everyone knows that, especially management so there won't be any unrealistic expectations placed on them. I don't agree with the idea that juniors is where he needs to go to fix holes in his game. Indeed, the holes in his game won't be nearly as evident to fix at a level he will simply dominate. So what purpose, other than the oft-repeated "escape" from the dysfunctional management, does it serve his "game" to go to a place where his "game" can't be improved by facing inferior competition on a nightly basis. I would argue it doesn't serve his "game" at all. There is also the off ice aspect of his professional development as well. Given the glimpses of his personality and seeming calm, mature attitude, I think he is best serving his teammates by being in a position to be around them on a daily basis as they grow together as a unit. Others may pooh-pooh this aspect of professional development, but I don't. So, other than the year of his entry level contract that it burns, I am out of rational reasons to send him back down. He's ready physically, mentally, and emotionally. GO SABRES!!!
LGR4GM Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 The saddest part of this entire argument is how much I really like Zadorov and how good I think he will be. I just hope this team doesn't screw up his development. Guess we will find out.

SarasotaSabre Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 He should be returned to London and only an incompetent coach/gm would keep him on this sabres team this season. There is absolutely no reason to keep Zadorov on the roster when he can learn as much if not more playing 25minutes a night in London. Sad/weird thing is I love his game. I am just all for allowing kids to develop properly. Putting 18yr old kids in the lineup is not the way to do it. So you think 25 mins a game in London would be more valuable for Z compared to 20 mins / game in Buffalo? I don't follow your logic at all. RR has already shown confidence in him and given him plenty of ice time. It would be an entirely different story if he was getting 5-10 minutes / game in Buffalo. Given the state of the Sabres, guys like Risto & Z can get plenty of time, learn at the highest level, and not be afraid to make an occasional mistake.......I think this is ideal

Get out the tin foil.

If they were going to do this or something close to this I would be much more amenable to him being in Buffalo all season but they won't because he isn't ready for it. If he fails he fails.. but that could happen next year too. See Tyler Myers. I understand the sentiment, but sending him down says, "Hey kid, good job out there kicking ass and earning 20 mins a night but we're moving you to London because it's better for your development."
nfreeman Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 LGR4GM's objection is duly noted. Zadorov is here to stay, and IMHO, rightfully so. 18 or not, he learns nothing else in London. He belongs in the NHL where his over all skill set can focus on progressing. This kid, at 22/23 years old is going to be a stud, and it looks like he's bringing out the aggressiveness in Ristolainen as well. He's starting to play a more aggressive game it appears to me. Funny how successful play with a positive attitude and some leadership can be contagious, isn't it? And maybe this will elevate his countryman Griggy and even Myers as well. So far Nikita looks great. LGR's concern is reasonable but there certainly are young players who do hit the ground running and benefit from the early NHL exposure. And every once in a while you get one that not only can handle it, he positively impacts his teammates as well. Let him play here until he shows that it's not working.

I have a hunch Zadorov's enthusiasm is infectious, both on and, just as importantly, off the ice. GO SABRES!!!

You can already see a difference in Myers play lately IMO. it hasn't been leaps and bounds, but like I said in one of the GDTs - Baby steps. The kid should stay. To me, it would be dumb to send him back just because you don't want to use a year of his ELC. He has nothing to gain down there with what he's been earning up here in terms of minutes and situational play (PK, PP, etc)
dudacek Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 Coach owes it to the team to play the players who give it the best chance of winning. It's a fundamental element of team-building and development. He loses the team otherwise. And that will do more damage to the organization than playing an 18-year-old who so far looks like one of the 20 best players.

spndnchz Posted October 30, 2013 Author Report Posted October 30, 2013 I don't think Ovechkin could make us a playoff team.
LGR4GM Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 Hey when was the last time Detroit had 4 teens in the lineup?
darksabre Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 Hey when was the last time Detroit had 4 teens in the lineup? The Detroit Red Wings haven't drafted above 19th since 1991.
LGR4GM Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 The Detroit Red Wings haven't drafted above 19th since 1991. I honestly did not know that. When was the last time they missed the playoffs? 1991?
darksabre Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 I honestly did not know that. When was the last time they missed the playoffs? 1991? 1989-90.
LGR4GM Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 1989-90. Thank you. And no there isn't a surprise ahaha! at the end I was just comparing teams for my own benefit.
darksabre Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 Thank you. And no there isn't a surprise ahaha! at the end I was just comparing teams for my own benefit. And when you think about it, it makes sense that Detroit has to develop players longer since they are pretty much never drafting NHL level talent. We can use Detroit as an example of how to develop draft picks taken in the late first round and beyond, but for elite prospects, which Zadorov could be considered to be, the development model is very much about the individual player rather than the system.
drnkirishone Posted October 31, 2013 Report Posted October 31, 2013 If he continues to get 20 some minutes with PP and PK time it would be better to stay. That wont happen here. I dont see android ron letting him play thru the lows. If 30 games in he is getting 5-8 minutes a game everyone here is gonna be pissed

TrueBlueGED Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 I think we can all agree on one thing: if he's not going to play, then send him back to London.
26CornerBlitz Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 I think we can all agree on one thing: if he's not going to play, then send him back to London. Totally agree. RR's says he's giving him more Press Box Perspective.
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted November 2, 2013 Report Posted November 2, 2013 For some reason I see him in the press box with a flask of vodka and 6 hot dogs......
