Would they get a better return for Enroth?

I've been wondering this myself -- Vancouver just pulled a somewhat similar move last summer (some key differences, I know, but they still traded the young heir apparent and kept the expensive older guy).

This would be my preferred outcome -- keep Miller as the face of the franchise guy -- and BTW I think he's going to be the #1 in the Olympics again this year -- and let him mind the store while the kids mature.

Highly doubt it. Enroth hasn't proven anything yet. Everything I've ever heard is that there aren't many people in the league that think Enroth is a legitimate starter.

Two 1sts and a 2nd for a pending UFA goaltender? If, and I stress if true, then Regier really was off his rocker.

I have to imagine a new GM will have more realistic expectations.

I haven't read all thread but with the injury to Rinne and the job the backup has done I'm boarderline shocked he hasn't been moved to Nashville yet.

Plus Jhonas isn't a rental. Not really sure one way or the other, but it is interesting. One thing is clear; the team does not need both right now.

Because Rinne is still one of the best in the game. He'll come back eventually. So you'd be giving up a lot to have an expensive rental goalie. Although there is some strong rumors that Hiller might be heading there if Rinne's timeline continues to expand.

I looked through the thread quickly... has anyone mentioned the injury Quick suffered against the Sabres? There's a SoCal team that might need some goalie help (last I heard, they were still evaluating severity). Of course, there's the same issue there is with Rinne- once they're healthy you're stuck with two pricey goalies.

Quick may be out from 4-6 weeks: Jonathan Quick has Grade 2 groin strain, which isn’t good

What pisses me off is, I lost all interest in this trainwreck of a season and couldn't motivate myself to take this even semi-seriously. Now that the big broom came out I am out of it.

Oh well.

Although that's true, Miller is only around for a year and Nashville has now lost 3 in a row and are allowing a ton of goals. Otherwise the team is pretty good and as strong as the west is this year they can't wait for Rinne. What's his timeline anyways? I heard it would be after Christmas and even then what kind of shape is he going to be in. Considering Nashville's ownership I'm sure they are relying on some playoff revenue. If Nashville doesn't make a move prior to Rinne returning they're toast.

If his timeline returns him a little after the new year, you're basically trading away big assets for two months of Ryan Miller and then what? Move Miller at the deadline? Nashville just doesn't make sense.

No you don't move Miller at the deadline. You go with one starting and one backing up until the year ends. Again, there is uncertainty regarding when Rinne will return and if it's longer than another month you can forget about the Preds in the playoffs and their season is over. What do you have then? Plus, I really don't think we're going to get much for Miller. How many teams are good trade partners for Buffalo regarding Miller? I'd sign up for Nashville's first right now. If we pay part of Millers salary than maybe a little more.

Look at what Toronto had to give up for Bernier

Look at what NJ traded for Schneider

Nashville would have MUCH cheaper options that make more sense. They'd move on a guy like Hiller first. I wouldn't be surprised if they're more inclined to sign Theodore than go after Miller. It's going to take take a first rounder to get Miller. He's expensive monetarily and on the trade market. So I really don't see Nashville as any option unless they get shocking news that Rinne's career is over (which isn't happening).

I think at this juncture I would be willing to give Miller a 5yr deal that tails off starting in 2 yrs as much as possible. I'd trade Jhonas because as much as I love him, I think he will be a starter/backup meaning a guy who kinda can start but probably is more of a backup netminder. I honestly think that in 2 years Ullmark will be the guy for us and if we could bring him over that gives us 3 more years of Miller mentoring... That is where I stand currently but it could change with time.

Makarov also has a ton of potential.

The Miller transition plan is one I've been calling for since last season, mostly because I don't think Enroth has what it takes to be a true number 1. I think he could split time with another goalie, but I don't see him as a true number 1. Transitioning with Miller and someone who can split more time with Miller as he gets older makes a lot more sense.

Fucale! (If only NS was in charge)

My reasoning for wanting Miller traded (as sad as it would make me):

1. His position: why would he be here? He's going to break down if he's here much longer, he won't win anytime even REMOTELY soon, he seems ready to move on to sunshine elsewhere.

2. By the time we're winning he'll likely be beginning to decline. So we'll have a declining and old goaltender on a young, up-and-coming team. Then we'll have to find a legitimate goaltender, and hope that you can keep guys around while you search. Why not begin that search now?

3. The tank. There's no denying that Ryan Miller gives us a better chance to win. Unfortunately he can only do so much so he's only a ten game difference on the season which still isn't enough to get us anywhere near the playoffs. So why continue with the mediocre draft picks? Move Miller will lead to more losing, no doubt, but that's kind of the idea right now.

4. The value we'll get for him. If we mess around and keep him beyond the deadline without trading him then I'm willing to bet that we lose him for nothing. We all love losing star players for nothing, right?

LaFontaine said in an interview with HNIC that if teams give fair offers he's willing to trade Ryan Miller before naming a new GM.

He seemed to indicate, although maybe I didn't catch it right, that some teams have inquired about Miller.
