    • He'll be traded before the first round of the 2013 draft ends.
    • He'll be traded after the first round of the 2013 draft ends but before the beginning of the 2013-14 regular season.

That was 5? Is that a different name for Six Degrees Of Kevin Bacon?

For some reason I had it in my head it was 5 degrees, not six...............

Must be thinking of the prequel to the early Will Smith movie......................

Didn't sense a lot of BS there and I'm moving back from my position that he clearly is gone.

I think if he is going well and leading on a team that is competitive and shows signs of getting better, he could easily resign after Christmas.

And if the team is a mess most think it will be, or he is clashing with the coach, or not liking his role, he is gone.

He seems focused on playing good hockey and seeing where things go.

Make him the captain and give him 18-19 minutes a game and he could be in for a helluva season.

Ruff pretty much did that in the first games, and he completely rocked the ice. 23 points in 11 games. Team went 5-5-1. Rolston finished the season with Vanek getting a lot of minnutes too. 8 points in 6 games, team goes 4-2. This team's problem are not named Thomas Vanek- I think he's really come around, I think he's stepped up into that lead-by-example offensive player, I think he scares other teams in the NE (especially Boston). Everyday we don't trade him is a day I fret, only because it's higher risk for not trading him or possibly lower reward if we do- it's not because I wouldn't love to keep him on the team for another eight years.

If we do trade him, we'd be seeking to develop or trade for a player very much like him maybe not this year, but likely in those many years that follow.

I got a big "I'll see" from the interview. Also a bit of "we haven't got a chance" mixed with "hey you never know" and "if I'm happy and I know it sign for years" clap clap.

I hate to read too much into short interview clips but his body language was telling me he's gone and not comfortable talking about it.

To be fair, Vanek looks uncomfortable pretty much all the time.

Well I finally had a chance to watch the full interview... he doesn't sound like a guy who wants to resign. He sounds tired of the missed chances and playoffs in Buffalo.

Resign yes....Re-sign no.

lol. liked your word play

. i got .Vanek being Vanek. (well spoken , diplomatic) He is probaly thinking ,.six years of no center, shutdown pair, power rw, second scoring line, or pp............ .... show me some skilled nhl ready players that can help us compete and we can talk .

note.the Sabres have not advanced an offer ...I am beginning to think this is a rebuild the hard way . If so, Vanek will be 50 before they find enough kids and get them ready.(assuming they have the gm and coaching talent to do that)

then again there is always the possibility that this ahl level team gels.. remote...but possible.

Just think. They let him slip away and he signs with NY, NYI,Boston, Philly, or Detroit..Then we still get to watch him play eastern standard time, but those here who , in the past ,have struggled with the amount of money the Sabres paid him get some relief and can sleep better at night. .Best of both worlds

I have two words for Mr. Vanek:

Steve Yzerman

Yzerman was pretty much in the same boat Vanek is in today when he was 29: A major star on a rebuilding team. Shortly after after his 32nd birthday, he was lifting the Cup. Yes, Vanek doesn't want to go through the rebuilding process, but if he stays, he will be a big piece of the puzzle that will bring the Cup to Buffalo.

Your really going to compare Yzerman to Vanek?

As for the interview, from what I have read, my impression is that he is saying what he has to (because he is being asked) in case he is not moved. Theres nothing worse then saying you want out and they don't deal you and now you have to show up and play with the guys you were looking to leave. he's basically saying that if he gets moved, no problem, if not he will play another year here til his deal is up and maybe they will get very lucky and be a contender this year............

I think you've pretty much nailed it. He sounds like he's being a good soldier, even though the circumstances aren't ideal. If I were to stretch, my read is that he doesn't plan on re-signing with Buffalo during the season, but could be interested depending on how the season goes.

My sense is that unless Buffalo is looking (really) good at the end of next season, then Vanek is off to Minnesota regardless of whether he is traded or not.

Kind of a "If luck falls their way and they become a contender this season, I may be interested in staying since they won't be "rebuilding" anymore, but otherwise I will finish my contract out and do whats required until its over

I think Vanek wants to see how things turn out by midseason. Yeah, he was being diplomatic in that interview, but he's always like that. I think (I hope) he wants to see if this roster can do something, and what kind of talent is coming up to determine whether or not it will be a short or long term rebuild.

This is my feeling as well. I think curiosity and Regier not getting the right offers is going to keep him here for at least half the season.

I'm not getting my hopes up, but I'm hoping they can convince him to re-sign. Give him the 8 year contract and let him retire as a Sabre. To me, nothing cooler than seeing an athlete spend his entire career with one team. It's a rarity nowadays.

I think it would be nice to see him find chemistry with some of our new core and thrive off of it. I bet it would be good fun for him, a nice change of pace from being the whipping boy.

Let's hope. Maybe he'll find some better chemistry with Rolston as well.
