You want so badly to be right about that trade, but you're just not. I had the same initial reaction as you (read the trade thread), but the Sabres have enough Kassian-like players, and CoHo is the only Sabre who qualifies as an NHL center.

I don't have a need to be right, I just have confidence that in the end I will be. If I'm not, like with Derrick Roy, I'll gladly admit it.

Right now? Neither player is anywhere near reaching the high end of their potential. If you took Kassian's aggressiveness and the energy he has shown he can bring to the rink with Hodgson's natural ability you would have one hell of a player. Sadly as we sit here watching another dismal offensive display by the Sabres, it's safe to say neither the Sabres or Vancouver is getting the ROI they were hoping for.

Nichushkin with his 5th G of the year in WPG to go along with 11 A. :censored:

It is frustrating watching other rookies come right in and have an immediate impact.

Whoa, Anderson pulled less than five minutes in. Not looking good for that trip to Sochi.

Could fans accept watching Ryan Miller in a Ottawa Senators jersey?

Thornton gets 15 Games.

DoPS Video: Shawn Thornton Suspended 15 Games

Boston Bruins forward Shawn Thornton has been suspended for 15 games, without pay, for punching an unsuspecting opponent, Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik, and causing a serious injury during NHL Game No. 438 in Boston on Saturday, Dec. 7, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.

The incident occurred at 11:06 of the first period. Thornton was assessed a match penalty for violating NHL Rule 46.15.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Thornton will forfeit $84,615.45. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

We'll live to disagree again on the Hodgson trade. As to your last point, well, we watched Dom do it, right? Although, that was for a bit. I'm not sure we could handle that for five seasons. I'd rather see him out of the division, but, for a bunch of reasons, I don't see a goalie trade at the deadline bringing a big return this year, barring a catastrophic injury to someone.

That's 8 G 16 A when you put the numbers through the Lindy offense stifling algorithm .

More fiction. The Sabres scored plenty in a Pres Trophy year, and Lindy didn't stifle it at all. Have a beef with him? Go for it, but make it something real, like "juggled his lines too much" (he did) or "rode his starting G too much" (he did). Otherwise, it's all crap.

Hehehehehe. It was a jab at people that think Lindy stifles offensive talent.

Sorry; lately, I'm in a weird mindset. His system was actually designed to maximize whatever offensive talent there was, given a solid backstop. That's why he succeeded immensely with Hasek (and little offense) and Miller, once he matured (with 23 and 48) and couldn't succeed with no real talent up front. The concept of cycling and pinching the way Ruff's offenses did was great.

I suggested this a few pages back. It makes too much sense. They have a severe need for a goalie with these injuries and we have a severe need for a really talented goal scorer who is young.

Not if you're a hockey fan. You don't trade one of the best young scorers in the NHL, who is only 25, for a 33 year old goaltender. Especially when that same team has already won two Stanley Cups with what can be considered lessor goal-tending. If the hawks had interest in anyone off of the Sabres roster it is likely Steve Ott for his physical play or Matt Molson who could add depth to the wing.

Psst, we can't read your mind.

Psst my prior post that was referenced there was clear sarcasm, as was the post I responded to.

Yes, I expect you to go back five pages to find my original sarcastic post about it. It makes too much sense.

If you took Kassian's aggressiveness and the energy he has shown he can bring to the rink...

The key word there is can.

If you watch Vancouver, Kassian simply does not bring it.

He's got the focus and drive of Drew Stafford right after he signed his new contract.

He meanders through most games in la la land, and those rare occasions he brings the nasty, it's usually negated by stupidity.

Canucks have a gaping hole on the Sedin line where they are using pluggers .

Torts flat out refuses to play Kassian there, saying he doesn't trust him.

Kid has a great opportunity and is being challenged by a good coach.

So far, he hasn't answered.

Consistency is what's preventing Kassian and Hodgson from being the players fans thought they can be.

And as in most cases you'll be wrong.

Kassian is one of those players that a team will always find a place for. A big aggressive kid with enough hockey talent where he's not going to John Scott your team. His six goals would put him third on the Sabres in goal scoring this season.

tsk tsk tsk. You know damn well we would have to adjust Kassian's goals in accordance to the Sabres anemic offense. Kassian gets 3.3goals as a sabre meaning he would have 1 more goal than Mikhail Grigorenko who has played 11 less games. He would be tied for 5th in goals but 14th in total points. Kassian still sucks and Foligno is still better.

Also Cody Hodgson has 8 goals so he is also better than Kassian.

Thornton gets 15 Games.

Nevermind.

Anyone else catch the quote from Thornton on this?

"I am aware of today's ruling by the NHL department of player safety," Thornton said in a statement released by the team. "I will be consulting with the Bruins, my representation and the NHLPA about next steps, and will be in a position to address the matter publicly after speaking with those parties."

If he seriously appeals this I may get a concussion from bashing my head off my desk.

I'm seeing some funny stuff from Bruins fans on the Thornton thing. They seem to like saying that Scott only got 7 games for his suspension. For whatever reason, the fact that he missed three games before the suspension was officially announced means that those ones don't actually count. I wonder how they would respond if we started calling it 12 games for Thornton instead.
