How come it's not a penalty to high stick a ref?

I'm bumping this. I'm really curious about this.

In last night's game, a ref took a high stick from a player. He had to leave the ice. No penalty was assessed and play was allowed to continue.

I get that ref's aren't there when they get hit with the puck etc. But they are a part of the game and you do get a penalty for bumping/hitting one. Why would you not get a penalty for a high stick? That ref needed repairs.

Generally a team gets a penalty for a rules infraction committed against the opposing team.

Officials in most sports are considered part of the field of play. What happened in what you described is similar to a NFL official getting run over during a play. Sometimes the officials just get caught up in the action.

I think kessel needs to walk down the street shoveling driveways for 2 bucks a pop...Traditional candy ass.

It is hilarious to see posters continually try to take shots at Kessel. Many of these same posters would pass out or wet themselves if a man of Scott's size ever grabbed them in anger.

Pretty amazing story, from our old pal Luke DeCock, about the brother of Canes color man Tripp Tracy and his ordeal in Venezuela.

Cellucci’s role in this story – a hockey spy novel, John le Carre meets John LeClair – has never been told. A lengthy article in Playboy about Tim Tracy’s ordeal in Venezuela never mentions Cellucci’s name, nor has any of the news coverage. But from his wheelchair, the lifelong public servant who never lost an election tried to orchestrate a set of diplomatic maneuvers, both official and unofficial, to set Tim Tracy free.

JVR scores the 1st goal of the season on a 5-3 PP.

That was a very weak goal too, trickled in through Prices 5-hole

I'm starting to think Price is the #2 most overrated goalie in the league right behind Fleury. He always seems to use the excuse that its his equipment/pads, or his goalie coach........

He was blatantly and admittedly ignoring the facts, even when called on it. But I do agree he was playing to the Canadien kiddies...

loved it when Ron basically told him that Scott was already out there when Carlysle sent out Kessel and Cherry just blew him off like that wasn't important cause it would mess up his rant.

Cherry is an idiot whiner who plays to his audience, says nothing bad about Kessel hacking away at Scott while Scotts tied up with someone else, but basically praises him for "standing up to the big bully" and says that children should take a lesson from this about bullying at school basically

Pacioretty got hurt too?

looked like the Leafs may have passed by him to fast and the wind injured him. That looked like the softest hit I have ever seen in a hockey game.

As for Parros, seen people saying broken jaw and concussion, but I think it will just be a concussion that will keep him out for a while. Colton Orr (The guy Laughs fans all think is going to just destroy Scott next time they meet) didn't knock out Parros with a punch, it was the jersey grab/hang on while falling that pulled Parros off his feet and chin first into the ice knocking him out. Throw in the moustache probably throwing off his balance due to its size, if he would have extended the facial hair a bit more into a full beard over the creepy 70s porn star/child abducter 'stache he may have had some padding on his chin and not been knocked out

I misread it last night. I thought it was the Kings twitter feed making fun of Parros for knocking himself out. I retract my pound signs and the adjective that preceded them.

Classless ######.

Now that's classless.

You would be correct. Fluery and Price are overrated and the same ppl who overrate them say Miller sucks. But that is another conversation.

@EyeOnHockey

George Parros released from hospital Wednesday morning with a concussion http://cbsprt.co/1fJ3ql0

That is good he is out but bad on the concussion. He should seriously consider hanging them up for health reasons.

Did Orr pull Parros down with him intentionally, or did he instinctively grab the jersey as he was falling to soften his own fall to the ice. We'll never know.

and one is wearing a Kessel jersey...

While everyone else on the leafs bench were hitting their sticks against the boards to "clap" while he was being removed from the ice, Kessel (if you see the video) basically just held his there against the board. Guess he only swings his sticks at players, doesn't want to injure the boards at his bench...........

hard to say, I wasn't refering to it to say that Orr was being dirty though, just that many Laughs fans that love their tough guy want to make it out that Orr knocked Parros out with his hands of steel.......

I hate Milan Lucic only slightly more than Kessel at the current moment.

He's eyeing up which Habs he's going to take a hack at with no risk of a beat down.

Waivers: Fla places Scott Clemmensen. Bos: Kevan Miller on Waivers. NJ places Alexander Urbom on Waivers. Edm's Ben Eager on Waivers.

I wonder if Pitts picks up Scott Clemensons off waivers.

Pitts could use the 2mil in credit from Vokoun to pick up the 1.2mil for clemenson (that gets divided over the year but you know what I mean)
