This is the biggest concern with our lot of potentials. We seem to have many possible 2nd line players and definitely 3rd line players but we don't seem to have those players that are truly talented and can be considered 1st line talent. This is why the tank is so important this year and next. Hoping that we finish dead last again next year we will two picks in the top two plus whatever the Isles pick becomes. And just maybe Murray can turn another player, Myers/Ehroff/etc. into a 1st at this years draft. Maybe we can turn these picks into possible 1st line players.

 

It shouldn't be a concern after these next couple of drafts. That is the very core reason for the tank.

We do have two potential top pair D men and a 2-3 D man as well, and I am sure that is a huge part of our #1 rating for prospects.

Nick Baptiste gets goal #44 plus two assists as SBY falls to NB 5-3. Baptiste has 87 points in 64 games, 24 goals in 28 games since Jan. 1

 

That is rediculous, hope the gens don't meet the wolves next round.

1. Linus Ullmark – 6’3”, 198 lbs. – 2013-14 Season: MODO

Sixth round (163rd overall) in 2012 by the Buffalo Sabres

Linus Ullmark came into the season uncertain of what his role would be. But he has been given an excellent opportunity to take the bull by the horns and go as far as possible with it, and he has not disappointed.

His club, MODO, decided to enter the year putting all its marbles into a very inexperienced basket, letting Ullmark and the slightly older Anton Forsberg (Columbus Blue Jackets draft pick) split the duties. To this point, Ullmark has gained the role of starter in as much as there is one. He’s played 35 of the team’s 55 games and leads the SHL with a .931 saveicon1.png percentage and is seventh overall with a 2.08 goals-against average.

MODO is currently ranked sixth in the league and looks playoff-bound with just a few games left to play. In the process, Linus has put up a 14-15-4 record, often almost singlehandedly ensuring the team a victory, as was the case in several of his three shutouts to date.

A large goalie, Ullmark has shown a strong ability to read the oncoming play well. Smart positioning and effectively using his size have been keys to his successicon1.png, and he is also fairly strong on the posts. Ullmark started off the season in strong fashion, but has shown some growing pains as the season has continued, which can be expected of goaltenders his age playing in arguably one of the top five leagues on the planet.

In light of Ryan Miller’s trade to St. Louis and Jhonas Enroth’s inability to so far show himself as a sure-fire starter option for the future, one has to think that the Sabres are very excited by the season Ullmark is having. He’s definitely established himself as the most interesting NHL goaltending prospect currently playing in Sweden.

Say what you will about Pegula, but his expansion of the scouting staff seems to be paying off some incredible dividends. Compher and Baptiste are looking like steals this season.

absolutely. and hopefully they did their research on deslauriers and fasching as well and it works out too. also interested to see what Hurley does next year at Notre Dame…haven't heard all that much about him

Baptiste's birthday is 8.4.1995. Is he eligible for the AHL in 2014?

I think that was the genius in selecting Murray as the new GM. He's a real scouts scout. I would really like to see another draft covered by blue and gold. I'm very curious to see what the dynamic between Tim and Devine is going to look like / looks like.

Now imagine a few more of these drafts going in similar directions with some higher caliber picks. This is the exact reason why i am in favor of #tanknation. You become a team that can find diamonds in the rough in later rounds and you become an extremely deep and talented team in a very short period of time (relatively speaking). It's these lack of depth picks that i attribute to consistent suckitude in edmonton. Are top picks instrumental? absolutely! But what good are your 3 consecutive first round picks without a talented team around them?

Im not sure… but i just realized reinharts bday is 11.6.1995, so baptiste is only three months older than reinhart and baptiste has nearly as many points as him, plus he's pretty much doubled his points total from last season. Thats an incredible improvement. In a redraft Baptiste has to be a surefire 1st rounder at this point

I am excited about the Baptiste, Carrier, Fausching group. They all seem to be using their size and skating really well. The draft should be really interesting to see what TMGM does.

Pretty brutal for Matt Hackett to be fourth in line again. And that's with two young guys with the Sabres who probably aren't going anywhere for a while.

 

I have no idea how Fasching is behind Bailey at RW. Fasching played in the WJCs and was pretty great.
