Ted Black can't even go on the radio with the retort "...it's difficult coming up with a winning design every time you put out a new jersey. If you think you can do better, well, let's see it..."

To which the internet has already responded, and the rest of us would go, "Okay! Let's go, brother!"

The question to Ted Black should be, "why is this franchise wasting time on yet another third jesery?" Is this third jesrsey "respected around the league?" Does this third jersey "work out with Gary Roberts?"

I wish this franchise would spend less time on bells and whistles and focus entirely on the product on the ice.

Almost all of these are better than the new thirds.

I truly believe that any of those designs would have been met with the same amount of venom as the real third.

I agree. the question is thou...... should the people in marketing be running a power skating camp or the video meeting to help breakdown the new divisions teams?

Why?

How is that even possible? You can't have a winning product and not have the other stuff. By your standard the Sabres should be playing on frozen pond in Delaware Park because anything more wouldn't be focusing on the product on the ice.

The sum of the fan experience doesn't begin and end with the on ice product. And you cannot stop doing the other stuff just because your team isn't winning. That would be stupid.

Why?

Because there was nothing truly spacial about any of those,… and we missed the playoffs last year and are projected to not be anywhere near them this year.

Winning cures a lot of what ails.

Maybe the new 3rd is actually meant to take our minds off the dreadful on ice product ?

You really think people don't like the jersey solely because the team hasn't been winning? I disagree. The prospect group is receiving more hype than ever, season ticket renewals are up, and now it's the perfect time to symbolize the coming of a new era of Sabres hockey. All they had to do was design a jersey that didn't look like sh*t.

Last night I misinterpreted the new subject line as: it's confirmed, breaking news, the Sabres released (the real) new third jerseys. Damn.

I'm assuming most here wish they had released the third Jersey so it could go on and become a FA

Because things like marketing and a jersey take time away from Darcy doing his job? Dude seriously? Spew the hate all you want but at least make some sense.

They are separate departments...? Money is not an issue so it isn't like resources are being misplaced> I really don't get this argument.

In other news - those geeky jerseys are fantastic!

Effort is being wasted on jerseys, so let's get those marketing geniuses to work in the hockey department. Make 'em assistant coaches or something. If they can skate.

Heh.

The head marketing guy is sitting at the table on draft day and deadline day, and speaks on hockey matters on the radio, just so you know. In Terry's East Hockey Resources management structure, there isn't the separation of powers that some here seem to envision. Ted weighs in on Leino, Ted weighs in on the Buffalo script. Maybe Ted just sucks.

When they drafted Zadorov, Devine asked 2 ppl Terry and Darcy. Ted Black was idle. Also he isn't the head of marketing. He is the team president and as such one would expect him to know about such things. I guess I disagree with your assessment but no one is going to change the others mind.

So now that Ott stole their thunder, does anyone know when the Sabres are going to "officially" unveil the new third jersey or has that water already gone under the bridge? Or now that we've seen the thing, does no one actually care? (I guess I don't, really - just curious how they are going to approach the brooch of secrecy.)

ted's not the head marketing guy. brent rossi appears to hold that position (based on what you see on the team's website). and i'm sure rossi's direct report is ted. i think it's been established in the past that darcy doesn't make a direct report to ted -- that, as many have remarked, there's more of a flat structure at that level where terry, ted, darcy, ken, cliff (?) will discuss hockey matters and decisions are made as a product of those talks.

from an organizational standpoint, ted is at the top of the franchise's business operations. the franchise is in the business of hockey. so it's inevitable and natural that ted will be heard to speak to matters concerning hockey -- it'd be downright weird otherwise. but i don't know that ted's playing an active role in hockey-related matters; it seems far more likely that he's listening to darcy and devine and developing talking points based on what his hockey people are telling him.

ted's time in buffalo has led me to conclude that he's getting some OTJ training as a team president -- but that he's a bright and earnest guy who's devoted to his job and the franchise's mission and, moreover, unfailingly and unflichingly loyal to his boss. if it turns out that "ted just sucks", i think it will be more of a reflection on his boss than ted.

for my money, i would rather see a hockey guy with business savvy in the role of team president rather than a business guy with some acquired hockey knowledge.

So now that Ott stole their thunder

the timing and content of this post got a belly laugh going for me.

So, the ticket office and the Sabres Store are getting new signs down here. Why aren't these people working on the 2014 draft? We've got time for signs? Signs! Ahhhhh! Signs!

I hate everything the Sabres do because I am psychologically predisposed to fear corporations and people in management roles!

Ted didn't speak up at the draft because he was mired in signage details. We are ######.

I kind of wish that the entire front office were the ones that were in charge and working hard on the jersey designs this offseason. It wasn't like they were busy doing other things like courting and signing FAs, or engineering big trades. Atleast this way they would be getting their monies worth out of the front office and there would be some excuses for the team this year. it would have been nice knowing that the reason why they didn't make some big moves to make this season hurt a little less is because Darcy was too busy with color swatches and picking fabrics

Head of marketing=man ultimately responsible for all business operations, including marketing. Tomato, tomahto.

PA. That's simply not true. They're not one and the same. The head of marketing is a guy by the name of Rossi. There's like 6-8 people in his department (presumably with additional support staff). Rossi reports to Black, who is team president.

This is like saying that the POTUS is the secretary of labor because he's the guy ultimately responsible for the executive branch.

It's fair to say that any major marketing decisions are run by Ted (and probably Pegula) for approval, feedback.
