Andrew Amerk Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 Last night I misinterpreted the new subject line as: it's confirmed, breaking news, the Sabres released (the real) new third jerseys. Damn. I read it and expected footage of someone actually ripping apart the new jersey, maybe someone setting it on fire...
Doohicksie Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 Has anyone remarked how the cut of the blue on the back makes it look like Superman's cape?
Eleven Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 Has anyone remarked how the cut of the blue on the back makes it look like Superman's cape? Isn't Superman's cape red?
... Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 Isn't Superman's cape red? Details. God, what Debbie Downer you are.
spndnchz Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 Has anyone remarked how the cut of the blue on the back makes it look like Superman's cape? Just don't tug on it.
Peppy22 Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 I always loved that Sabres Hoodie you can buy. So I would have prefered something like that as well.. http://www.pepe-graphics.de/sabres/sabres_third.png
IKnowPhysics Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 Has anyone remarked how the cut of the blue on the back makes it look like Superman's cape? I noticed that, but it failed so hard that I left it alone. It seems like that was what they could have have been trying to do, but there's so much more going on that's so, so bad with it.
Stoner Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 I wish the Sabres would have a fan design contest next time, which will be, what, summer 2015? Every single fan jersey concept I've ever seen has been better than what the team has ended up doing. Put the top 3 designs up and let people vote. You get a better product and the fans feel like they've bought into the process. As a kicker, devote 1% of profits to the winner's chosen charity. (Note: I still hate third jerseys, but if they insist on doing them, and they will, let's shake the process up.)

(Note: I still hate third jerseys, but if they insist on doing them, and they will, let's shake the process up.) I like this idea, although I recognize the difficulties, albeit overcome-able, of executing this properly. Chicago Fire are doing something similar, sans charity effort. A design template would have to be used, if only to avoid people submitting drawings done in crayons on bar napkins. Probably also need to contract a graphic/jersey designer to polish the finalists into professional-looking jerseys that could actually be produced. There are details that either wouldn't or couldn't be communicated in a simple entry form, but the designer can work with the submitters of the finalists to sort those out. The online voting part is easy, as long as you find a way to keep it legitmate (maybe keep the vote count hidden, use captcha to prevent multiple votes, etc). Ugh, this tire fire makes the last third jersey, which I thought was "pretty alright," look "really pretty good." That's how powerfully bad this jersey is: it has a time machine to go back in time and make ok-looking jerseys look pretty damn good. Let's try that. Nashville '01-'07 Verdict: looks better now.
IKnowPhysics Posted September 8, 2013 Report Posted September 8, 2013 Vancouver '78-'85 Verdict: Looks good by comparison. Tampa '96-'99 Verdict: Goofy as hell, but still better, juuuust by a little bit. California Golden Seals '74-'76 Verdict: They work. Now. Atlanta '03-'11 (with tweaks) Verdict: Even the asymmetrical sleeves look like a good idea compared to these new design elements. Blargh.
SwampD Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 I'm liking this jersey more and more every day. There's a good chance I buy one of these.
darksabre Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 I'm liking this jersey more and more every day. There's a good chance I buy one of these. I keep seeing it on my Facebook page and at first I go "hmm maybe" and then I actually look at it and want to have a tantrum.

The internet has shown us that if you let it vote on it's own, they'll be skating in pink bunny suits.

darksabre Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 http://geekyjerseys.com/store.php Almost all of these are better than the new thirds.
spndnchz Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 http://geekyjerseys.com/store.php Almost all of these are better than the new thirds. :w00t:
... Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 http://geekyjerseys.com/store.php Almost all of these are better than the new thirds. I like the Bay Harbor Butchers and the Krakens.
MattPie Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 I like the Bay Harbor Butchers and the Krakens. Tardis 4.0, heh.
North Buffalo Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 Bottom Line... I won't be buying one ever... oof. Even if they are heavily discounted. I didn't buy a slug jersey and I won't buy one of these. Why would anyone even consider doing it. I agree there are enough graphics designers and amateurs here that could easily blow this out of the water and even improve on the Sabres current jersey as tough as that might be. I have seen some incredible stuff here.
darksabre Posted September 9, 2013 Report Posted September 9, 2013 The Starship Troopers one (Roughnecks) could even be a real team. It's that good. And I love the colors on the Back to the Future one. Just look at that. An entire page of well thought out jersey designs. Just more proof that the Sabres are very good at making this whole process difficult and tragic for no good reason. :w00t: Ridiculous colors? Yes. And done very very well.
bunomatic Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 http://geekyjerseys.com/store.php Almost all of these are better than the new thirds. That Beetlejuice one would get ol mileys tongue wagging.
dudacek Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 Metropolis must be where the Sabres stole their design from. The Krakens shows you how to use gold and grey. The Senators should use the Trainers design But I gotta get me a Direwolves
Robviously Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 http://geekyjerseys.com/store.php Almost all of these are better than the new thirds.
