shrader Posted September 6, 2013 Report Posted September 6, 2013 Lol I actually like the back of the jersey to be honest but the front with all the silver and the weird collar and the random Buffalo just sucks. You know what we haven't seen yet (or at least I haven't)? A view from the side to see whether or not the front and the back actually work together or not. All the comments from people who like the back but not the front, or vice versa, really drives home how odd this one is. We have two completely different sides to a jersey, which is just plain crazy.
bunomatic Posted September 6, 2013 Report Posted September 6, 2013 Okay which one of you writes Sabres Noise? and is named Richard Spalding? Because I just read that article and it sounded exactly like certain folks on here when it comes to that jersey and other things. I am not reposting the article because I am sure you could find it if you wanted to. Listen, the jersey means jack. No one cares about it other than to hate on it and even if the reveal was way to long at least they had some fun with it in the end. Does the Jersey look good? No it looks like Bambam from the flinstones designed it with Victor Frankenstein's help. However I can't stand the "THIS ORGANIZATION DOES EVERYTHING WRONG!!! WAAAAAAAAA" Really? Everything? 1) Underachieving Kassian gets traded for Cody Hodgson... o wait I forgot Hodgson sucks and is only a 3rd line center (dipshits) 2) 2012 We draft 2 centers in the first round... o wait I forgot we should have traded a boat load of assets to get a #1 center like Paul Stastny ( ) 3) Ville Leino... HE SUCKS!!! Yea, 1 year at a position he was not suited for and another year injured has proven how much he sucks... 4) Beyond Blue n Gold... criticize this, I dare you. But the Media Department and such all suck and no nothing :censored: 5) Ruff fired... it was time people, you know it and the Sabres new it. 6) Pominville, Regier, Leopold all traded... there are those UFA's we keep letting walk for nothing... wait a second <_< 7) 2013 draft we take the 2 physical defenders with enormous upside then trade a good asset to get 2 assets, man darcy sucks again not getting value for guys 8) instead of paying over the top prices for UFA's which we all bitch about we sit tight in FA because there were literally no players we needed O and I forgot #9) We traded Derek "powderpuff" Roy for Steve "I eat Nails and Crushed Glass for Fun" Ott Yup this organization is completely directional challenged and they have no idea what is going on or where they are going even though it is painfully obvious what their plan is going forward. PS. The 3rd jersey has nothing to do with the team sucking last year or if it does this year. It is just a craptastic jersey that will die sooner rather than later (prob be out by next season). Results. Thats all I got to say about the negative nancys . Look at the results of the decisions. Cause and effect. But I am stoked about the pipeline Liger. The recent picks and the young guys coming through now have me very excited about the future of this team.
CallawaySabres Posted September 6, 2013 Report Posted September 6, 2013 I disagree. I don't think people have spent enough energy dissecting everything wrong with the back of the jersey. The only thing everyone noticed is the fake blue "cape." It's much worse than that. We're also looking at big gray numbers with a yellow outline. Note to the Sabres: Gray and Yellow do not look good together. Gray and Yellow have NEVER looked good together. And for that matter, why are we still trying to cram the color gray into our color scheme? I understand why they didn't want to lose it entirely in 2006 after we'd used it for 10 years in the red/black scheme, but even the banana slug jerseys used it sparingly. Then we used it a little more as armpit stains in our current home/away. Now we're actually trying to add MORE gray than ever before. Why? Are we ditching "blue and gold" to be the "blue and gold and gray" team? They already put gray outlines around EVERYTHING in our logo, much to its detriment. (Nice sophisticated design strategy there. Just use the shotgun approach and hit everything with gray outlines.) I just assume "blue and gold" is over with because it's too simple and pure for an organization apparently run by people suffering from severe ADHD. The font for these numbers also looks like nothing else in our uniform set. It doesn't even look that much like the letters in "OTT" or "BUFFALO" (but we've only seen a 9 so far). The font for the names looks huge too. Is that even going to fit on the blue part of the back if you have a long surname? And why do you have a special different font for this jersey that looks nothing like the font for the home/away? Did they think it would help our brand to have an alternate uniform that looks like it belongs to another team (probably a roller hockey team)? Second post: Let's look at what gray is doing to our current logo for a second: There are gray outlines around EVERYTHING -- to the point where different parts of the logo are now bumping into one another. The gray outlines from the swords are bumping into the gray outline of the inner circle at both the sword tips and the bottom of the sword handles. The gray outline from the "motion" line above the buffalo hits the gray outline of the buffalo. The gray outline of the buffalo's back leg hits the gray outline from one of the swords The gray outline of the buffalo hits itself a couple times at the chin and front legs The morons who updated our logo wanted to outline EVERYTHING in gray, but were too lazy to resize anything to make sure parts of the logo don't bump into other parts of the logo. I'm honestly amazed that the buffalo's red eye doesn't also have a gray outline somehow. It's been like this for years, but apparently no one in the entire organization has the energy and awareness to fix this. So not only have they thoughtlessly downgraded a classic logo by crapping gray all over it, they keep trying to find new ways to put gray all over what should be a terrific, simple color scheme. PLUS 9,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,and so on
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted September 6, 2013 Report Posted September 6, 2013 Results. Thats all I got to say about the negative nancys . Look at the results of the decisions. Cause and effect. But I am stoked about the pipeline Liger. The recent picks and the young guys coming through now have me very excited about the future of this team. In 2006 they were sitting on Vanek (22), Miller (25), Pominville (23), Roy (22), Connolly (24), Stafford (20), Gaustad (24), MacArthur (19), Sekera (19), and Paille (22)...all at the same time. Other than Paille, all of them went on to make between $3 million and $7 million per year. 5 of them were captains. In the 6 years between '07-'08 and 2013, out of the 10 of them, they gave 49 years of service to the Buffalo Sabres. In 2006 the Sabres also had in the pipeline, Weber, Kaleta, Paetch, Gragnani, Funk, Butler, Gerbe and Enroth....all who were touted in some form or another. In that same timeframe the team won a total of 5 playoff games...............while this can lend validity to "Darcy drafts useful players", even with these 18 players in the pipeline at the exact same time, not to mention the busts......the team has been one of the worst in the league since relying on developing their own prospects from within to lead them to the promised land. All we have right now is OTT to show any of the current guys the way. Even if a lot of these prospects turn out to be relative homeruns on an individual production level, we are headed forward with the same blueprint that failed miserably starting in 2007.
bunomatic Posted September 6, 2013 Report Posted September 6, 2013 I hear what you're saying. Makes perfect sense. The results speak for themselves and we have the same architect calling the shots. But I have absolutely nothing else to keep me engaged when it comes to this team. The future is all I've got to hang my hat on . Without that hope I might as well crawl into a hole and hug myself. Soooo...I'll try to keep hope alive and eagerly follow the young guns. Maybe they'll get it right this time. :wallbash:

And there is always a 4% chance that Darcy is really a genius and Lindy was a dolt who lucked out by having such a skilled roster given to him by Darcy.

One key piece from those previous rosters is missing though... Lindy Ruff. I'm not saying he's the answer to all of this, but it remains to be seen how Rolston and the rest of the new coaching staff will impact these players, if he remains long enough to do so. To try to paint this as being the same exact scenario we were in before is wrong. Edit: You apparently made a similar point already in your last post, but I hadn't read that before responding.
LTS Posted September 6, 2013 Report Posted September 6, 2013 Curiosity here.. Was it basically design a jersey or was it let's come up with some options and see what works. I'd love to see things that didn't win compared to this. Perhaps it's a like having your choice of 4 really ugly girls(guys) and you know you shouldn't pick any of them but you just can't overcome that need and you pick the least ugly. Sure you are going to regret it. Sure, others are going to ask what you were thinking. You just couldn't help yourself.

chileanseabass Posted September 6, 2013 Report Posted September 6, 2013 From he who unveiled the jersey... As for the reaction to that sweater, which hasn't been completely positive, Ott defended the Sabres' choice. "First off, it's a third jersey," Ott told NHL.com. "It's not a new symbol, it's not a new look, it's not a color change; it's just a third jersey. People obviously have opinions. It's extremely yellow, it's extremely bright on the ice, it's supposed to be a fun jersey and that's where it's at. There's no need to read too much into it." http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=681556&navid=DL|BUF|home
LGR4GM Posted September 6, 2013 Report Posted September 6, 2013 All the jerseys look the same in the dark. Doesn't matter had sex.
carpandean Posted September 6, 2013 Report Posted September 6, 2013 All the jerseys look the same in the dark. And they're all like this on the inside.
Huckleberry Posted September 6, 2013 Report Posted September 6, 2013 I am thinking Stevie Wonder. Wouldn't it be all black then ?
HopefulFuture Posted September 7, 2013 Report Posted September 7, 2013 (Deep sigh) Can I please have a winning hockey team to talk about again? Same here dudacek, I could care less about the new 3rd jersey (for the 3rd time now is it?). I really like what's happening with this team for secondary scoring from both the future 2nd and 3rd line potential roster players coming up through the ranks, it looks very promising indeed. I'm still looking for a 1st line RW'er, 1st line LW'er and, if Hodgson doesn't stick around, a 1st line center. In short, I'm looking for primary offensive power with all star caliber players fitting the bill.
inkman Posted September 7, 2013 Report Posted September 7, 2013 ... if Hodgson doesn't stick around... Can we stop with this already?
HopefulFuture Posted September 7, 2013 Report Posted September 7, 2013 Can we stop with this already? If he signed a contract, I stand corrected Ink, I wasn't aware of it as I've been bouncing in and out of town. I'm not now nor have I ever promoted the idea he doesn't want to be here, I was merely pointing out that he hasn't as of yet is all.

darksabre Posted September 7, 2013 Report Posted September 7, 2013 Yup, these jerseys are still a Salvador Dali wet dream.
Andrew Amerk Posted September 7, 2013 Report Posted September 7, 2013 How about Peter Rawlings? Yes. And Catfish Hunter.
Stoner Posted September 7, 2013 Report Posted September 7, 2013 Last night I misinterpreted the new subject line as: it's confirmed, breaking news, the Sabres released (the real) new third jerseys. Damn.
darksabre Posted September 7, 2013 Report Posted September 7, 2013 Last night I misinterpreted the new subject line as: it's confirmed, breaking news, the Sabres released (the real) new third jerseys. Damn. This was the exact mistake I made as well. We're fools.
IKnowPhysics Posted September 7, 2013 Report Posted September 7, 2013 I almost did as well. I suggest retitling the thread "CONFIRMED BREAKAGE ..."
Eleven Posted September 7, 2013 Report Posted September 7, 2013 I can explain: 1. This is what I do for a living. My job isn't all about branding, but branding is a major part of it. So it's impossible not to see this when much less important changes, logos, and designs in our work are apparently receiving far more scrutiny and benefitting from a much more thoughtful process than the Sabres uniforms. Amateur hour doesn't even begin to describe this work -- and it's been bad for years and is now apparently getting worse. That does explain it.
