If I can get enough motivation to type out an email - would anyone care to pass on any comments to Mr. Black?

i guess i could send one of my own. but maybe it's better that SS pile in/on one message. here's what i would say:

The new alternate third jersey is an unattractive and incoherent Frankenstein of several modern uniform design elements. I urge you, Mr. Pegula, and your colleagues not to respond to the media's dog-pile-on-the-rabbit pillorying of the jersey with a reflexive (and perhaps understandable) sense of defensiveness or even defiance. The franchise should craft to plan to do away with this jersey as soon as it is commercially reasonable to do so.

Just stop with all the grey. On all of the jerseys. It's not even a Sabres color.

so pretty much we cant make the playoffs ever based on how bad these jerseys are?

I'm pretty sure they came up with great third jerseys until Pegula meddled. Blasphemy!!

Yes.

This jersey needs to be scrapped. I would recommend watching Christmas Vacation and recognizing Brian Murray's part near the end regarding cutting the bonuses. Paraphrasing, sometimes the things that look good on paper don't look as good when you see how they affect the little people. Fans have to endure enough ribbing for the continued failure of the Sabres hockey franchise. By adding this jersey to the mix you have given more ammunition to other teams fans and a new avenue by which they can mock all of us. We were just recovering from the Buffaslug and now you've unveiled the FrankenJersey.

Buffalo continually gets ripped as a city and is suffering an image crisis. These jerseys are not going to improve that in the slightest. They are a horrible creation (as stated by thousands of fans across Twitter, Facebook, forums, and more). This is not a hockey development issue or a question on whether a GM is competent to run a team, etc. This is a question of aesthetics. The team will play the same regardless of the design on their backs, but fans will still have to look at it. The right decision is to bury this uniform. Own up to the fact that whatever the management team believed to be a good idea turned out to be anything but when it came to the fans. Admit the mistake and move on. It shows a great level of maturity to be able to do this. Prove that you do listen to the fans.

I'm thinking they are.

Here's the link to the company.

The blue matches and the canary yellow on the sides matches....I guess the white stripes too.

Terry: "What if we could combine the colors of my 2 babies....the Sabres and the gas company?"

Ted: "That's brilliant Terry!"

I hope it's fake but those odds went down with the detailed stuff on their own website.

Our colors have "always" been blue and gold. Take off the tinfoil cap.

(In quotes because of the obvious red and black period that was in effect while Pegula wasn't here).

Unless they are looking at the back of the jersey!!

This is a legitimate concern, I think.

Who the hell would struggle to think of anything Darcy Regier has ever done wrong? Oh, but that was the point of my posts a couple weeks back. A disaster like this does not inspire confidence. Nor should it.

There's plenty to blame Darcy for, but I doubt this is part of it. On the other hand, there's lots to congratulate Pegulack for, but this isn't part of that, either.

At least it didn't come with an abominable snot smear (better known in these parts as a 'slug') and it IS blue and gold (unless one is looking at it from the front in which case it's gold and blue).

And the Shatanic goathead was the colors of a certain cable company. You're point ...

;)

Dammit, Taro, just about anybody but you, and I'd let this slide. Get it together, man.

I really wonder if any other response from everyone was ever possible.

What I'm wondering is if the Sabres ever anticipated any other response? I doubt it. Still, it has to be dismaying to have your product universally hated.

The Twitter buildup and the ridiculous leak by Ott didn't help. The photo of him in an unnatural hockey position didn't put the jersey in the best light.

The answer is simple. Implement even basic design principles and you would end up with a jersey that at least 50% of fans like.

I'd rather be underwhelmed than visually offended.

Considering I know you know that I blame the great color change on Jennifer Smith rather than the criminals ...

I'm guessing at least 50% do like it, but the internets is a sh!t amplifier and all you here are the people angry about it. It's like when you look up a disease you think you have. All you see are the horrible stories of people thinking they are dying and their awful symptoms. Nobody ever comes on after their symptoms are gone and say,"um, well, I'm all better. It was just a reaction to some bad mushrooms I ate. Sorry."

This jersey doesn't need a sh*t amplifier. It does that pretty good on its own.

It's really too bad. These jerseys don't need to be this bad. The blue cape element isn't terrible. Eliminate the gray sleeve cuffs and the piping, and the gray accents on the blue cape and it looks a little better. Take the white collar triangles away and it looks better still. Then just make the number a more blocky style in gold and boom, not a bad jersey. I can see the potential.

Quite honestly, I had very low expectations from the second word came out that yellow/gold would be the primary color. That almost never works out well. They somehow managed to come in below that bar I set. Usually the aim low so you won't be disappointed approach doesn't fail...

My bar was set low as well, but I had hope at least. They just really really screwed the pooch on this one. Just look at it. The possibility is there for a good, solid, third jersey. But they killed it. With fire.

Like you, I can see potential in certain aspects of it, but that front and back thing is just beyond ridiculous. They might as well go to blue and gold referee striping.

See, the image of blue and gold stripes takes it down a completely different path. There is in fact such a thing as "so bad, it's good". Those Montreal barber pole jerseys are hideous and awesome all at the same time. This jersey manages to be bad and not even in a good way.

Would you believe this thing is actually getting some love over on fark?

I hear blind people are using computers these days.

if anything, pegula may have chosen his energy company's colors based on the sabres traditional color scheme.

i would be genuinely interested in some scientific polling on the subject. fwiw, the news's poll has it at 82% not liking it (with 601 votes cast).

the fook is fark?

EDIT: i see what fark is. fwiw, many of the people saying the new 3rd is okay are also of the opinion that the slug design was a good one as well.

also saw someone post that our new 3rd reminds him/her of this:

I used to use the "slug" (in a course) as a negative example of what happens if you fail to do market research with the target audience (the slug was tested.... but in Atlanta, supposedly). You'd think they would have learned something after that debacle... but, nope.
